This morning we are leaving Ely early and riding route 50 "The loneliest road in America" to Lake Tahoe. We decided to ride the first 70 miles to Eureka and then stop for breakfast. This had been something we had talked about doing for quite some time but had never actually followed through on. What this did was change my focus completely. Instead of thinking about the meaning of life, what was on the side of the road, or thinking of cows and trees, the only thing I was thinking about was what was for breakfast? Pancakes or waffles, easy over or poached, maybe corned beef hash. This was a tough ride. 70 miles passing one truck and seeing about 8 other vehicles. It was a scary moment when we arrived in downtown Eureka, Helli was ... read more

What a wonderful night's sleep and oh my goodness what an incredible shower !! Tim was just as happy too. He had a pot of hot coffee with all the trimmings right at his bedside. We were both in heaven to say the least. We took our time getting up and ready but eventually made it downstairs to the breakfast buffet. It was okay but it sure wasn't anything like that incredible dinner last night. We finished up breakfast but of course we had to stop by a few machines on the way out the door so we played for a minute or two. With no luck in sight, we made our way down the streets of Reno and all the way back to the motorhome. As we turned the corner and saw Big Bertha sitting ... read more

Well today was a great day and also a sad day. We started out in Lakeside OR at around 8am. I had read in a travel guide that there was a geyser called "Old Perpetual" just 1 mile north of Lakeview so wanted to see it before we left town Apparently it spouted 200 degree water 90 feet in the air every 90 seconds. How could we miss that! Russ needed a latte first so we headed to the nearest pub/corner store/coffee bar (as only the US has). The lady who was making the coffee was chatty and nice so Rusty said "can you tell us which was to the Old Geezer"? Of course, it is pronounced "Geyser" not "Geezer" so the lady started laughing. Unfortunately the "old Geezer" has dried up in the recent drought ... read more

"Lake Tahoe is one of the few places on earth where people feel an emotional response just by looking at it. Yosemite Valley, the giant sequoias, the Grand Canyon, a perfect sunset on the Pacific Ocean ... these are a few other sights that occasionally can evoke the same response. But Tahoe often seems to strike the deepest chord." - Tom Stienstra, a guide to MOON Tahoe Camping & Hiking We came across this passage en route to Tahoe, driving Hwy 5 from Crater Lake. What we found startling in it was that not only did it list every destination in our trip, but that we had discovered this ourselves on the Pacific ocean only two days before. Our tickets and itinerary for this 24-day-ride were bought and planned on June 30 (we left July 12). ... read more

28th June, 2009. Travel to South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Up and out of Reno, over some big hills and down into Carson City (another Nevada Casino town), passed through quickly and onto the bottom of the Sierra Mountains (forever crossing these), a climb up to 7500ft and then dropped down to Lake Tahoe, absolutely stunning, not a cloud in the sky and the Lake flatter than a pancake, followed the Lake around until we hit California (it's like a line in the sand, Nevada border has Casino's right to the edge, California nill). Only travelled a distance of 57 miles today so were at the RV Park way to early, booked in and then we were shooed away until 1pm. Lovely Park, huge spaces and all around us a sequoia tree forest (BIG pine trees). Settled ... read more

29th June, 2009. South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Sore Butt this evening, we decided to go on a 11 mile bike ride, up early so we could get in before it heated up, hired two push bikes and headed off around a section of Lake. Through houses, industrial, anything else but lake, in the end we had to take detours down to the Lake every time we wanted to have a look. Still a great ride, had a look at a couple of the beaches and a Ranger walk, Lake Tahoe is an Alpine Lake, 6300 ft up, average of 989 feet deep and covers 22 x 12 miles, the water is 98% pure. It is pristine. Anyway back to the Butt, certainly didn't like the bike seat, I will recover. Back to the camp and a ... read more

Well well well...... last week we were graced with the presence of Ma and Pa Wetton..... We spent the first 3 days skiing. Nat was instructor and her 3 pupils did exceedingly well! With Nat's Ski School officially up and running, it was all go on the mountain as we snowploughed, parallel turned and fell down each piste in turn. We even had our own lookalike ski patroller with Dave in his red jacket! I thought skiing seemed easier to pick up than boarding, and less painful, but it seems a lot harder when you go off piste or hit moguls. On a snowboard you can just absorb quite a lot of it, and it seems easier having just one plank strapped to you feet than worrying about two! I got a little ahead of myself ... read more

Well, its been a few weeks since we last updated the blog... since then, we had a visit from the boys (Kev, Brass, Mike and Flem)... They came a few days after we arrived back from San Fran. In the 5 days they were here we had so much fun and were blessed with a huge dump of powder, which was a god send for Kev and I, to soften our numerous falls!! We took them to the infamous Womack's ribs joint and to the casinos where they warmed up for their Vegas trip (The warm up paid off as we heard Brasso pocketed a neat sum in Vegas on the roulette!)... and we managed to get a fair few free drinks whilst we were gambling (or pretending to gamble)!! That very same night Brasso managed ... read more

Hello everyone! Sorry we havent updated the blog for a while! But we didnt want to bore you with more of the same until we had seen and done a little more. Also we would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has sent us a message, we enjoy reading your comments and they remind us of what and who we are missing, and make us laugh, so keep them coming. Well, where to start, we have done quite a bit since our last entry, we were pretty 'green' but after a week amongst the locals I think we are finally starting to adapt and blend in. I would say 9 out of 10 Americans think we are from Australia! But they are all really helpful and we chat to them on ... read more

Arrived in Zephyr Cove We arrived today at about 11:30am after landing at Los Angeles at 2pm yesterday. The flight went well and we made up an hour, then nat got detained for 'secondary questioning' at the US Passport Control, something to do with her bright pink fleece and dodgy student visa from a few years back! Anyhow we picked up the shuttle bus to pick up our rental car (Jeep Cherokee) and headed out of a sweltering LA 85 Farenheit! Although I thought the traffic in the UK was bad this was worse with 10 lanes moving at 5 mph for 1.5 hours! We finally got some decent road once we past Palmdale and headed out into the Mojave (via a stop off at Taco Bell) to sample the authentic local cuisine. Our journey continued ... read more
