Here are pictures from my student SAF chapter's 2008 National Convention trip. This year, it was in non-descript Reno, which was somewhat disappointing. We redeemed ourselves and our trip, however, by taking a small voyage around Lake Tahoe and then onwards to Sacramento. The majority of my pictures are from the Lake Tahoe region.... read more

Lake Tahoe After leaving San Diego we headed across to a new state Nevada! James who has done this journey before directed us through the dessert. It was a long 10 hour journey but the views were interesting; barron lands, mountains and mirages being created by the heat. I had a bit of an error when I stuck my head out the window at 80 mph and forgot I had my seeing glasses on...I no longer have them. We stopped at one point in the dessert which had been recorded as the hottest temperature reached in the world. We met James' other cousins Nick and Katie and aunty and uncle Paul and Coren. The family were going to look after us for the next few days. We decided to drive to Lake Tahoe to soak up ... read more

TAHOE ~ SIERRA NEVADA I have been in Tahoe for a week and a half (I leave for AUSTRALIA in 3 days!). There is so much to do here and it is so pretty! For the first few days after I arrived, it was cold and snowed constantly...it was the most snow I have ever seen! So far, I have learned to snowboard, eaten a California sushi roll IN California, driven around the entire Lake Tahoe, seen Sierra Nevada, ice skated outdoors, hugged a Giant Sequoia, learned to use a snow blowing machine thingy, and visited Reno, Carson City, Tahoe City, and parts of California that are located near the boarder. Lake Tahoe is amazing!... read more

Yo. We're in Carson City, NV. I'm at the library and they have me on a clock so I must be brief. What a ride. We climbed a 8,574 ft peak through a bit of a snowstorm. For real. The roads were dry but it was hella cold and the wind was ripping around 30 to 40 mph near the top. The ride however was amazing. The coolest thing we've ever done. I can't post pictures at this library unfortunately. I'll hopefully be able to upload some pictures soon because they are legit. We're having a blast. Lots of laughs, no tears, and great experiences everyday. Some really good stories. All of us are doing quite well and are very happy. More Soon.... read more

Today we completed Lake Tahoe on CA side so we drove counter-clockwise around the lake. We started our day by searching for food. We drove back to Lake Tahoe from carson city, NV. After passing several spots we thought we may be able to find food but most of them turned out to just lodges and resorts. We finally got our breakfast at a small restaurant on CA side named "the old post office" because it used to be a post office. We stopped by a few places starting from a very very small beach that was full of small smooth river rocks. I don't remember the name of the beach. The views along the way was gorgeous and indescribable. At one point I found myself driving on a ridge and I could see blue water ... read more

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful area with tall mountains, green trees, and a huge lake. The lake is colored a soothing blue-green and stretched as far as we could see. We arrived at Lake Tahoe in the mid-afternoon in a good mood from the awesome scenery, and were even more excited to find that our hotel was also a resort/casino (cha-ching!). With this said, we knew we were going to be in for more fun gambling and hanging out by the beach. After check-in we explored the entire area and made plans for our time there. We went downstairs at seven to begin our gambling adventures, hoping to redeem ourselves from our awful luck in Vegas. The night didn’t start out the way I planned as I lost $60 in another poker tournament, taking the ... read more

This is my first blog ever....I mean, I tried to blog before but it never seemed to quite work out for me. I have not set out on my journey yet; we will leave in August from Lake Tahoe and drive to the Yucatan in Southern Mexico. The reason? I was awarded an Ambassadorial Scholarship from Rotary International to study for one-year abroad. My husband, Martin, will finish up his dive certifications. I guess, if pressed, I'd have to say that I am a bit nervous to travel all the way through Mexico, especially in August, as newly weds, for a whole month. There are so many unknowns. Which is both good and bad. Don't get me wrong, I've traveled before. I've been on three self-supported bike trips through W. Europe. I've traveled through E. ... read more

Sometimes people are drawn to different things...whether it be a beautiful person, a good book, a stiff drink, or a certain place. For me, it always has been...and likely always will be the opportunity for outdoor adventures. Over the course of five days in July, I had the opportunity to live like a king...play like a child...and savor the moment like I haven't done in a long time. If you've never been to Lake Tahoe before, you are certainly missing the opportunity to take in one of the most scenic and breath-taking settings that we have here in the United States. A good friend favors the George Carlin quote, "It's not about the number of breaths you take, but the number of moments that take your breath away". That has never been more true, and I ... read more

After finally leaving California on May 30, we drove to Lake Tahoe. On the way, we stopped at a rest area for lunch where I proceeded to make roast beef sandwiches while Alan was cleaning the windshield. Ironically, two cattle-haulers pulled in and parked on either side of us. The cattle were mooing loudly and smelled a lot! We closed the windows, ate quickly, and left in a hurry! Dan flew to Reno to spend a week with us, and we had a great time. We stayed at Zephyr Cove Marina & RV Park, in a lovely setting near the Heavenly Ski Area at South Lake Tahoe. Dan even saw a bear in our campground, which was just a tad unsettling, but exciting. We took a couple of short hikes, one near Emerald Bay and one ... read more
