Geo: 38.6276, -90.199Today is the day we flew back to Missouri... and it literally took us ALLLLLLLLLLLLL day to fly to Missouri. Note to self: next trip... fly in/out of Springfield and/or pay close attention to flight arrival and departure times!!We started the day meeting hubby's cousin. She is a beautiful lady who met us at our hotel for breakfast. So, we flew from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City... and had nearly a four-hour layover... so we sat and read and waited... We flew-in to St. Louis airport at five minutes until midnight. The airport looked empty but the attendants told us there were two more planes scheduled to land later than us that night. Yikes!Hubby's parents took a taxi to his aunt & uncle's house in St. Louis... and what did hubby & I ... read more

DAYS 29-30 Saint Louis The next morning I got up and after grabbing some breakfast at the motel, doughnuts and orange juice, I walked to downtown. I had planned the day quite well this time, I was going to the City’s museum first, then downtown, then the Arch and finally I had a ticket for my first baseball game ever, St Louis Cardinals vs Minnesota Brewers. I caught a bus to the city’s museum and that was a mistake. Not catching a bus, the temperature in St Louis was quite high not as bad as in Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi, but still in the high 80s and quite humid. The mistake was going to the City’s museum because as cool as it is, it’s basically a museum for kids. It’s got some kind of rides, funny ... read more

Rode through Kansas and on to Missouri the following morning. Stopped off in Joplin which has a great little main st. despite suffering terrible loses as a result of May's tornado! Went through Carthage and decided to ride on to St. Louis! As we had covered around 330 miles, we realised we could afford to spend two days in St. Louis. This was a brilliant idea as St. Louis turned out to be a great town, from the massive arch and museum downtown, to the Delmar loop in University city. We had a superb time in 'Blueberry Hill' on Delmar. Everybody has played here (and been pictured with the owner!) Chuck Berry (St. Louis's famous son) still plays here one wednesday every month! They have a walk of fame outside with the names of people who ... read more

Day 2 was a full day! We drove to St. Louis and arrived there around lunchtime. On the agenda was going up the Gateway Arch at the Jefferson Expansion National Monument. This was accomplished with flying colors. The underground history displays were phenomenal describing the westward expansion following the Louisiana Purchase. We took the tram up to the top and enjoyed the beautiful views of St. Louis from the top! We ended up about an hour past Kansas City in Lawrence, KS for this evening. Now off to bed so we can make good time on our way to Colorado Springs, tomorrow! Thanks for your prayers and reads! Hope you enjoy some of the sweet pics we took of the Arch! ... read more

Argh, my belly is full of Oreos and I am quite immobile right now so I will update you all on one of our favourite cities so far as we ride along the highway and my mind rethinks the last few rockin days. Driving around St. Louis you begin to grasp the whole idea of what this city is all about- The people, parks, food, Art and culture, and we were lucky enough to be staying with a person who is quite possible one of the most interesting people we’ve ever met before, Mauricio, whom was born in Columbus and travelled around the world among other things. Just before arriving into the city we went through a HUGE thunderstorm and I secretly hoped for a Tornado to come our way but unfortunately the Tornado season is ... read more

St. Louis is one of those cities that is indentified with one particular item. This item dominates the skyline for miles around. Nearly every business in town has it on their logo. A local tourist magazine has a picture of a family looking up at it, with the quote “Now what?” The item is so iconic that someone once produced a coffee table book consisting of nothing but pictures of it. Its official name is the “Thomas Jefferson National Expansion Memorial” but everyone calls it what it looks like: the Arch. (The title of this section comes from the Missouri Valley Conference’s annual college basketball tournament; I hope the bad pun is obvious) St. Louis Art Museum I came to St. Louis ... read more

Driving into the home of country roots and bars late at night from Memphis was something else, and pretty exciting to be there, although there aren't as many "rednecks" as the movies in Hollywood would let you think and so far we haven't really come across any of the sort. People are super friendly down south and I could sit forever listening to that "Southern Draw", oh and being country music lovers it's nice to blare the likes of Jason Aldean, Alan Jackson and Brooks and Dunn only to gain nods of approval rather than strange looks you would get in Melbourne. That night we stayed with the Winnett family- Tom, Beth and two gorgeous kittens. We really enjoyed staying with them and the first night even though we arrived late they bought out all their ... read more

Leavetakings I woke up as our new friends were rustling around the hotel room. I'm not usually a very deep sleeper, and they had to step over me as they were getting ready for the day anyways. We went down to eat the complimentary breakfast while the band, taking full advantage of the safe, comfortable and quiet environment, slept. It was one of the swankiest breakfast buffets I've ever seen at a hotel. The huge courtyard, with the soft burbling of the fountain from the entryway providing soothing background noise made a perfect atmosphere to enjoy some scrambled eggs that were probably beaten in some sort of industrial sized paint bucket. After eating, we went back up to wake the boys. Everyone showered, packed up and said our most sincere thanks and goodbyes to the ladies. ... read more
