On a suggestion from John, we decided to spend the afternoon in Provincetown, which is at the end of Cape Cod. Andrew, Paul, Colleen, Scott, Oliver and I took the drive north, and I loved the scenery. There were lush forests and ocean on either side of us. Oliver snoozed the whole way up and woke only when we arrived. We just missed the Fourth of July parade. We saw men dressed as Revolutionary solidiers (complete with muskets) walk by, away from the parade site. We also saw some floats filled with girls in striped bikini bottoms and star spangled bikini tops on the way home. So, after grabbing lunch at a local diner, we decided to scope the town. Providence's local population is mostly gay, and store fronts boast rainbow flags and rainbow welcome mats. ... read more

We thought there would be no better way to start our next bout of travel and working abroad than to go back to our second home on the Cape. And we knew from the moment we got there we had made the right decision. Three weeks with the OE guys would have been enough fun to last a lifetime and that was before the real hard work (and fun) had even began. Working 12 hour days can definately be fun depending on how much your willing to put into it. Luckily we were joined by our third muskateer this year, Claire's sister Gillian, which brought the summer to a whole new meaning and level making probably our best summer in the states. There are too many memories to put up here and too many awesome new ... read more

We said our good byes to the west coast and i won't lie and say that we were sad to leave behind Los Angeles. Our flight was a 5 hour overnight flight arriving in New York around 6.30am. Billy managed to get a few hours sleep on the plane which is just as well as he had to tackle rush hour traffic through New York! I on the otherhand spent my time watching 'Leap Year' and was just starting to nod off when we landed. The drive out of New York was quite hair raising - definitely the worst driving we have seen on our trip and we were lucky to get out without being involved in an accident. We drove from New York through Connecticut, Rhode Island and finally into Massachusetts. The weather gradually improved ... read more

Day 187 (Friday 23/10/09, NJJ) Window shopping again. Some more driving. Weather was dull and grey. On to Cape Cod. Stopped at Salt Pond visitor centre then on to Nauset lighthouse. Didn't go any further along the National Seashore as it was cold, windy and dull so we left and drove to Warwick, Rhode Island. Checked into a Comfort Inn which was lovely until I found what I thought was a flea on the bed. Needless to say I asked to change rooms. We bougnt some pieces of luggage inWal Mart as we have quite a bit to carry home. Had food in Chelo's with caramel cheesecake for dessert, one of the nicest ever. ... read more

Painting the town ... orange It's been a varied couple of weeks. Only one constant: the endless stream of bright orange pumpkins found on every street, in every front yard, in every store front. Rather than mourning the end of summer, America appears to be basking in the rich hues of autumn with pumpkins, chrysanthemums and wreaths adorning doorsteps like ornaments on the Christmas tree. Throw in some (okay, a few hundred thousand) trees with their turning leaves, and it's a pretty magical place to be. :-) So, about two weeks ago I found myself sat in a Jersey motel in amongst all the pumpkins. Where to next? I have three days to get to Hartford, Connecticut for the ol' marathon. Where can I wile away a few days? After the hustle and bustle of Jersey ... read more

This morning we left Boston and headed off to Cape Cod. First stop this morning was the coastal town of Plymouth which is where the Pilgrims landed back in 1620. Once we secured parking for our car, we got out to do a little exploration of the area. Our first goal was to locate the Plymouth Rock, an important symbol in American History. The location of the rock was quite obvious from the moment we arrived. Along the shore, there was this structure that looked like a miniature version of the Lincoln Memorial. We all immediately knew that this is where the rock had to be. Carved into the rock was the date 1620, the year of the Pilgrims' arrival. It was much smaller than I had envisioned it to be and I could tell from ... read more

We are here on the Cape, and what an adventure that was! We left yesterday morning, intending to drive leisurely down the coast, stop in Ipswich for a fried clam lunch, and yet be through Boston before the afternoon rush hour started. It was a beautiful day AGAIN yesterday, perfect for driving along the coast. We drove through Kennebunkport, and stopped at Ogunquit to walk a bit.....that's where we saw the beached whale, which was unfortunately dead. Beautiful beach, as you can see. Our timing for lunch was great; got to the Clam Box in Ipswich before the rush (yes, another place we read about). When I was here in 1964, my family and I ate fried clams in Ipswich, and since this place has been in business since 1935, it makes me wonder if it's ... read more
