As holidays go, this was a fabulous one. As extended weekends go, this was absolutely top-notch. 9th July being our wedding anniversary, we decided to take our much-awaited holiday this weekend. The celebrations started on Friday night itself with the Cambridge Dance Party which is a free dance party in Central Square for all Cambridge residents. The music was good and it was a lot of fun. Day 1 - Action Packed adventures , lots of ocean and some lazing From Beantown to P-town We got up early in the morning to catch our ferry from Boston Harbour to Provincetown, which is at the tip of Cape Cod (See map). I highly recommend this fast ferry to anybody not wishing to drive to the cape.(www.bostonharborcruises.com) Its very comfortable and full of all amenities. Most importantly ... read more

Dave awoke this morning on the floor at the old Handsome Headquarters in Eastham around 645 am. He had to be at work in Brewster for a half day at 730. He coaxed Brady to driving him there because his car was MIA (the usual for an given Saturday morning). He drove Brady's car because Brady was still drunk from last night and doesn't have landscaping recuperative powers. Brady: "How are you doing this? You are an animal, " to which Dave replied it is his god-given talent. He arrives at work a solid 10minutes earlier than his boss, who also red hair and likes to drink. The morning is uneventful and I meet with Dave around 1230 to drag a couch out of Brandon's house. For our troubles, we received a picture of a ... read more

I awoke this morning, slowly, to the sound of a fan going 'round and 'round. Moments later, Dave staggers into my bedroom and loudly proclaims that he'd like to kill himself. What? Huh? Oh yeah, another night out and none of us got ass. What is this, February? Then the night came back to me, seeing how we only went to bed a few hours ago anyways. You see, in the summer time, we don't sleep, we just take short naps between working and drinking. I sit up in bed and survey the wreckage: my cousin Brion, groggy and on my floor, my roommate Collin smoking on the back porch, our friend Sarah, comatose on the pullout couch. There was the Beachcomber in Wellfleet last night. I showed up around midnight, as I had to ... read more

We start our adventure in the quaint town of Chatham. For those who aren't aware, Chatham is the richest town on the Cape, which is saying something. So, when in the richest town, where do you head to? Why, the fanciest establishment in the entire town, of course, the Chatham Bars Inn. Let's set the scene: It was Sunday and sunny, so usually we head to the outer beach in Orleans, after harrassing every girl in our phones, and getting responses from something like 3 of them. However, because the stupid Piping Plovers are nesting, my $180 beach sticker is about as useful as tits on a bull. So, our friend Brandon (who bartends at the CBI) invites us to his beach bar. This will prove to be a decision he will come to regret, ... read more

Well, if you've read this far, you must be wondering if our family of five was able to do all that for under $1500. The truth is, I came in slightly overbudget but I was pretty darn close. The grand total worked out to be: $1556.04. Friday's splurges on food and unplanned attractions put me $56 over budget. But I guess the most important part is, I don't feel like we skimped on anything. We had a great time and I hope I've inspired others to get out there with their kids and travel. For those of you who are interested here is the final breakdown of what we spent and where we spent it: Lodging: $600 Condo rental Gas/tolls: $210.00 Details: $42 Fill up before hand $39 Fill up on road $30 Fill up in ... read more

As an overplanning nut, I had many more potential activites to do with my kids that we didn't have the time or budget to fit in. I guess I'll just have to plan another trip to Cape Cod to finish them! Here's a list of additional activities you might try with your children: 1. Cape Cod Baseball (www.capecodbaseball.org). There are free games all summer long at various locations around the Cape. If you think your kids are too young to sit through a whole ballgame (mine would be), you might give them a taste of Cape Cod baseball by having them participate in one of the baseball clinics for kids ages 6 and up that run throughout the summer. Most programs go for 5 days (M-F), a few hours a day. The Brewster Whitecaps (www.brewsterwhitecaps.com) offer ... read more

Well, we're in the car driving back to Buffalo as I type my last few entries. My husband hooked up the laptop to his cell phone so I could feed my internet obsession during the 8 1/2 hour ride home. This morning we checked out of our condo by 10am. I took parting pictures like I promised and posted them under "Accommodations." After check out we headed back to Plimoth Plantation. I think I mentioned earlier that you get a two day pass for the cost of admission. What I didn't realize last Saturday is the pass is supposed to be for two consecutive days. I noticed that fine print written on the ticket last night when we were planning our final day. I decided to call customer service and explain the situation. Thankfully I got ... read more

Day 7 was the last full day of our vacation before we start travelling home. I was determined to get to see the JFK Museum (on the inside today). Also, while looking through the Kids on the Cape travel magazine (found in local store foyers) I came across a coupon for the HyLine Harbor Sightseeing Cruise. Usually the cost of the cruise is $14/adults and $7/children. The coupon said kids ride free and $2 off adult admission. With three kids, I thought that was a great deal. So even though I hadn't originally planned on doing this excursion, I decided to fit it in. The big draw to the Harbor Sightseeing Cruise is it's really your best shot of seeing the Kennedy Compound if that sort of thing interests you. Their home is secluded and can't ... read more

The local weather channels had been warning all week that we'd have severe thuderstorms Thursday. So I saved all of the indoor activities I wanted to do until today. I really wanted to window shop at Mashpee Commons a large outdoor mall with lots of interesting boutiques. I figured if it was raining too hard, I could just duck into another store. I also knew that my children would not want to participate in such an activity. Conveniently, the Cape Cod Children's Museum (www.capecodchildrensmuseum.org) is also located in Mashpee. So my husband dropped me off at the Commons and took the kids to the Children's Museum to run off some energy. The kids really seemed to enjoy it. I asked my husband if he thought it was worth the cost of admission ($6 for adults and ... read more

They say no visit to Cape Cod is complete without a visit to one of the islands; Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. We chose to do Martha's Vineyard on this trip for several reasons: the ferry ride was shorter, there was more to do with young children, and the ferry tickets were cheaper. We left the condo around 7am this morning, drove into Falmouth and parked, then took a bus to the ferry terminal in Wood's Hole. We were a little early getting to the terminal, which is what I planned because I wanted to try out this great little bakery called Pie in the Sky (www.woodshole.com/pie) for breakfast. Pie in the Sky is just up the hill from the ferry terminal. I had read wonderful things online about this little place and it didn't disappoint. They ... read more
