We have had fanstastic weather this week on Cape Cod. The last few days have been a regular heat wave. The family was all exhausted after the whale watching trip so we slept in on Day 4. I let the husband sleep until 10:30, after all it's his vacation too! When everyone was finally up, we walked across the street to Craigville Beach. The kids really enjoyed running in and out of the water and trying to build sandcastles. Craigville Beach is one of the nicer beaches on the Cape from what I've read on Tripadvisor.com, and I can see why. It's pretty large, there are lifeguards on duty (several of them spread out along the shore), plenty of parking, and two snack shops if you get the munchies. The beach is located on Nantucket Sound ... read more

Day three of our Cape Cod vacation was devoted to whale watching. I had researched the big 3 companies on the Cape; Portuguese Princess (www.princesswhalewatch.com) and Dolphin Fleet (www.whalewatch.com) out of Provincetown and Hyannis Whale Watcher out of Barnstable (www.whales.net). We decided to go with Portuguese Princess for several reasons. First, they didn't charge admission for my 4 year old. Secondly, they offered a family discount rate of $90 for two adults and two children. That made sailing with them about $50 cheaper than sailing with the Hyannis group. Finally, I thought driving out to Provincetown would be interesting (I had heard it was an eclectic, artsy little village with great people watching) and I really wanted to see the rest of the Cape. We packed up our cooler and headed out to P-Town. The ride ... read more

Day two of our budget vacation started off with beautiful breezy weather. We slept in and my husband got up and made everyone pancakes. I packed lunches in our cooler and then we were off to Hyannis to take part in the Pirate Adventures Cruise on the Sea Gypsy (www.pirateadventurescapecod.com). According to the website, the pirate cruise leaves from the harbor and is geared towards ages 3-11. Reservations are required, but truth be told, I called them the morning of the cruise at 8am and was able to get a same day reservation for the 2pm sailing. I didn't want to book too far ahead because I wanted to make sure we had great weather. There are restaurants on the harbor,Baxter's or Tugboats, that sell seafood and have great views of the ships. What I was ... read more

Doing Cape Cod cheaply means finding the right accommodations. I have rented vacation homes/villas before; once in Orlando and once in the Hamptons. Having had great luck with them, I decided to give it a go again. The websites I poured over were www.vrbo.com, www.cyberrentals.com and www.weneedavacation.com. These all have homes, villas, or condos for rent by owner which is sometimes much cheaper than going with a rental agency which tacks on a fee. The vacation home owner usually holds a security deposit which is refunded after your stay. Sometimes you will be required to sign a rental agreement. One thing I noticed about Cape Cod while searching for homes is there are a few weeks during the summer season that you might find cheaper than others. Many homeowners had the last week in June discounted ... read more

Our family of five, two adults and three children under the age of 7, are on vacation this week in Cape Cod. I am determined to spend less than $1500 and have a fabulous time. After finding cheap accommodations, my next budget conscious decision was to drive to the Cape instead of fly. The travel time from Buffalo, NY is a very managable 8 1/2 hours. I've allowed $200 for gas on our trip. On the first day of our vacation, we woke up early and left home by 5am. The kids slept in the car and we stopped for breakfast along the road ($15 McDonald's). Our first destination was Plimoth Plantation (www.plimoth.org). Plimoth Plantation is a living museum located just off the Cape in Plymouth, MA. At Plimoth Plantation they have a replica of the ... read more

This is my first try at blogging, so it might be a little rough around the edges. Do you ever wish your family and friends at home could see what an awesome vacation deal you got? That is the reason I'm starting this blog. Not to brag, but to show my friends and family what kind of deals are out there. I know a lot of people who rarely take vacations. I think they are overwhelmed by the planning or think it might just be too expensive for them to go. I want to show them with a little planning, that a family vacation truly is within reach. I am a bit of an overplanning nut. I enjoy it. Finding a great vacation bargain is my passion. This year's vacation budget is $1500...yup...you heard that right, ... read more

And I love it (oh, are you surprised?). Cape Cod as a local · Monday, May 21 We rolled into Cape Cod with relative ease, only having Providence rush hour traffic to deal with. We then checked into our hotel in West Yarmouth and proceeded to take our much needed showers. Once cleansed we set off in search of food and found this place called Molly's Restaurant & Pub a few miles north of us. It was really cool. We walked in and there weren't many people th... read more

Cape Cod is one of the famous vacation places for people living in the large cities of the east coast. We arrived late afternoon to our B&B. It was a nice house owned by a couple from Montreal. Our dinner recommendation for tonight was the "Impotent Oyster" which to us was really funny. We had been wondering all day how an oyster could be impotent as the legend says that oysters are as good as the blue pill . Well, it turned out that it was not "impotent" but "impudent" which does not make any more sense either. The food however was excellent and we ate the biggest lobster in our lives. We had never thought that we would hardly be able to finish it. The lobster also came with interesting sweet clams that were actually ... read more

Provincetown, MA is the "gay & lesbian" American Dream. It is white picket fences. Fresh cut grass. Beautiful flowers. A small town village atmosphere. Friendly locals and tourists. The corner grocery shops. The town bakeries. Kids playing in their yards. People walking their dogs. Locals and visitors riding bikes. People flying kites. People fishing. Kayaking. Canoeing. Lounging lazaliy in a boat. Sunning on a beach. Having lunch on the pier. Yes. Provincetown is like the gay suburbs -- however -- it is a suberb atmosphere with a "wilder" side. Provincetown is loaded with gay & lesbian nightclubs, cafes, restaurants, shops, drag shows, cinemas, museums, art galleries and host numerous special events throughout the year including Carnaval in August, Holly Folly in December, Family Gay Week in July, Women's Week in October and many, many others. Firstly, just a quick note to say thanks for all the lovely comments and messages that we have received so far; we feel very loved and all warm and fuzzy inside:) We have really enjoyed reading these little ‘messages from home’ and hopefully most of you are enjoying reading our blogs. We will try to keep them coming throughout the rest of our trip so stay tuned for more! Ok, 4 nights of camping under our belt, bring on another campground! We left from Rhode Island and took the beautiful drive on to Cape Cod, a long narrow peninsula that curls off the coast of Massachusetts into the Atlantic Ocean. Once we crossed the bridge onto the Cape, we left the highway for Scenic Route 6A. This was such a beautiful stretch of road and paradise ... read more
