It Seems That Some Stereotypes Do Contain Truth Arriving back in the US was as exciting as it was scary. Coming home meant a chance to reconnect with friends, see family and enjoy foods that we had really missed over the last year, but it also meant coming to grips with the United States. After a year long, eye opening view of the rest of the world, the United States had become a big, loud, scary place in a lot of ways. Thankfully US immigration has a setup in Dublin which allowed us to go through immigration prior to even getting on our plane to leave. That meant, much to our astonishment and happiness, that we didn’t have to wait in lines to get out of the airport once we hit Boston. Once our bags ... read more

A Blog from the Bog as we spend our 3rd night on Cape Cod. We walked along an old cranberry bog in a light sprinkle today. We shopped a bit in Brewster and Dennis. Saw the Sesuit Harbor where all boats must be out of the water by Nov. 1. They stack them up 3 boats high on metal racks (like car carriers) and put shrink wrap around them to winterize. We walked on the sand so Timmy could put his paws into the Atlantic Ocean, but you all know Timmy, he hates to get his paws wet. Shopkeepers are very friendly and talkative after the summer season. Some places shut down, but there is enough of a year-round population to sustain businesses. Again, we are the only RV in the campground except for some permanent ... read more

Apologies for the delay in entries- travelling in a group for once meant there was no chance to stop at a library to put an entry in. So just over 3 weeks ago Shazza and I picked my brother Jimmy from the airport in Montreal. It was great to see the first familiar face from home in 7 months, let alone my younger bro's (who I hadn't seen for almost 18 months). I formally introduced Jimmy to Shazza, although they'd already heard a lot about each other. He was impressed to see her, and Shazza was pretty happy to have someone to navigate the way back to the hostel, situated in Old Montreal. Unlike Quebec City, Montreal is a mixture of the old, classic buildings on cobblestone streets, as well as modern architecture. We caught up ... read more

As football season approaches, my mind turns to competition and achievement. And while, in the NFL, the greatest individual accomplishment is the league MVP, there is another award that outshines even that prestigious title. Of course, I speak of the glorious Team Handsome MVP Award. No other accolade speaks to an indiviual's total lack of regard for their mind, body, soul and criminal record than this award. Past winners include: Brady ('04); who can forget the infamous Brady-Fall-Down segment of our video on the porch of the old BeachBreak? Brion grabbed '05's rookie of the year honors, but since we haven't added a rookie since, he is the only one with that distinction. Then there is Dave ('05 & '06). He's the reigning MVP, but never has he faced such stiff competition coming from the field. ... read more

Ok. It's been awhile, so let's try to sort this out. We haven't logged on in a while 'cause both Dave and I just got out of rehab. Not really, but it's plausible. Actually, this webpage's server crashed for a couple of weeks, lost all of our entries and scrambled the photos. I think it's all sorted out, with the exception of Mike's journey to Mexico, which I still think I can repost somehow. Anyways, it's been about a month since a posting, both because of the technical difficulties, and some reckless drinking. Anyone with an office job will know what I'm talking about, when it comes to trying to type with a hangover. It'll make you puke. I've got a bunch of pictures from the time in between, which is good, because they help us ... read more

Arrived on the Cod (as they say down here) to a very busy w/e. Been seal watching with 'Capt. Bob' and have been to the beach twice. We also visited the saltmarsh up the coast (which was very interesting) and have a day in Provincetown planned for tomorrow. Bit cloudy today so hoping for better weather for the rest of the week. Can't believe the weather forecasts - they seem very changeable!! It's a real tourist place here with lots of nice shops and we're enjoying the contrast to our previous stops. Haven't eaten so much fish this week - lobster, shrimp (enormous), scallops - all delicious. Think we've gained some weight this holiday unfortunately! The exchange rate is very favourable but we can't quite rush to the $6 000 000 house on the seafront unfortunately. ... read more

12Aug07 - Rhode Island - Experienced my first real seafood along the coastal waters at Mystic Bay. Spent two days at the Sheraton by the Providence Airport. It was right beside the airfield so I got to watch up close the planes takeoff and land. At one point there was a thunderstorm which grounded all the planes and left a line up of aircrafts. I felt sorry for the poor air traffic controllers as the weather cleared and the ensuing meyley of planes landing and taking off. Wandered into the city and visited Brown University where I picked up some souveniers including a George Bush countdown clock. You can't be too popular when people are selling countdown clocks on when you'll be leaving the White House. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/22125934 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/22125936 14Aug07 - Cape Cod - Rode to the ... read more

Friday (July 13th) & Saturday (July 14th): This weekend was such a blur. The booze consumption was so much, even for our pro-level standards. Alyssa warned me that her friends could drink, but I thought it was "girl-speak," where things are seen through rose-colored shades. Yknow, like when a girl says her friend is "cute;" we all know what that usually means. I stand corrected. These girls could DRINK! As I said, the weekend was a blur, so I'm just going to include a highlight reel here. If anyone who participated wants to add things that I missed, feel free to in the comments. I'll try to stay somewhat chronological. There was karaoke at the Sea Dogs on Friday. That's a given. Highlights include Dave and I doing our famous duet of "Faithfully." Instead of ... read more

Thursday: At midnight, our friend Whitney turned 21. That should've been all the encouragement we needed, but there was the added incentive of the Beer Olympics weekend. Whitney and Brion's roommate, Alyssa, invited a ton of their college friends down to the Cape for sun and debauchery. They started to arrive during the day and early evening when Whit and I were tending bar. I got my first hint at the trouble this weekend was going to cause when my cousin Brion texted me and asked if it was ok if he and Dave could come in for a drink. For those who are unfamiliar with that situation, although Dave is one of my best friends, he was under a temporary ban from the Fairway for his actions on St. Patty's Day. That's a story ... read more

So, it's a Tuesday. I worked landscaping (shoveling in the hot sun) and then bartended/managed (where I did absolutely nothing). After work Brion and I rolled out for an hour of drinking between midnight and last call at the Land Ho. I was wearing my "I heart cougars" tshirt and got a ton of comments on it. Lately, any weeknight I go to the Land Ho wearing my products, I seem to make sales. Well, anyway, there is a built-in danger when you wear a tshirt that says you love Cougars. That is, sometimes you run into an actual cougar. This particular one was trying to catch my eye, but i was doing my best to ignore her. (p.s. as I'm currently writing this, Brion is drunk, talking to Mike G. in Lousiville, KY. Mike ... read more
