I have been on a very few rides with the Central Midwest HOG group of which I am a member, the ABC ride, Poor Boy dinner ride, one breakfast ride and the Toys for Tots ride. The weekend poker runs and many of the events seem to always fall on weekends that I had other trips planned so I could not attend. I made it a point to get to the Easter Egg ride. As a thank you to a couple guys that watch my house when I am out of town I invited them to be my guests for the ride. Darrel who went to the Toys for Tots ride with me jumped at the chance of coming out with HOG group again. Darrel rides a 1982 Yamaha Maxim. Mack was less eager and nervous ... read more

Wichita Kansas Hotels The first family reunion I ever went to was my last family reunion. Each year on Cinco de Mayo my distant relatives all get together and celebrate our family history and catch up on everything. My father had never wanted to go to these things when I was younger and I never understood why. When I got the invite on my 28th birthday I was intrigued and so was my wife. She wanted to see what my other family members were like. She had met my cousins and grandparents, but that was the extent of it. I was curious as to who these people were as well. So off we went to Wichita, Kansas where it was being held that year. Wichita is one of those cities that is nice to visit, but ... read more

One week until go time. I bought a 5 piece luggage set today. I have enough luggage for a small army. I also got a traveling alarm clock (that doesn't tick--thank god), voltage adaptor, and other random necessities. I'm feeling very stressed out for no reason. I pretty much have everything done..well almost everything..but I also have one week to sit around and stew and think about what I have to do. I am content and ready to leave. I had an amazing weekend in Manhattan that was so enjoyable that I couldn't feel sad I was leaving....because I know I get to come back to these awesome friends. Does that make sense? Sí. I also have an awesome going away party to look forward to. Fun will be had by all! So this is my ... read more

++Every year I write a Xmas letter that goes in the Xmas card. In DEC09 I found a bunch of the old letters and I thought I would post them here in this blog. Please notice in this the 2005 letter I say I can not win the ABCs of Touring because you couldn't hold a 5 day a week job and have time to win. Funny I would end up winning it for 2006 while holding a 5 day a week job. ++ Cindy’s Christmas Letter Hello to all. I hope this finds you all happy and in good health. I am doing good as I am in fine health and still find many things throughout the day that puts a smile on my face. Scout is doing fine. He has a full time job ... read more

It's my last night in Kansas, tomorrow evening we fly over night; landing in London Thursday Morning. For kicks and giggles, I'm including "The House Miami Threw Up On." It's a neighboring house that every year (well not last year for some reason) manages to out fit their trees to look like palm trees, and deck the halls in neon pink, blue and orange. I used to thinkof it as excessive, but now... it's grown on me. With the Mickey Mouse in the yard it should probably be called "The House Orlando Threw Up On."... read more

Winter is here in Overland Park, Kansas. We just had over 10 inches of snow last week from a snow storm that hit the whole midwest and northeast. It is time for me to learn from our feathered friends and start the southward migration. I have 2 weeks vacation left from work and not much money left in the bank. So, it is an easy choice for me to choose driving than flying. I am so jealous on you - Mr. Goose, if only I could fly. With the choice of transportation set, a road trip plan is born. I will be driving from the heartland of the country to the Southwest - New Mexico and Arizona - along the way passing panhandle Texas and Oklahoma. I had a side plan to cross the US-Mexican border ... read more

I am University of Kansas PhD student travelling to Antarctica as part of the Polar Radar for Ice Sheet Measurement (PRISM) project. However, I do not work on radars. I work on the mobile robot that will tow the radar across the ice sheet. I have spent the past three and a half years developing and testing this robot. The first team of PRISM researchers departed last Thursday. Their goal is to set up as much of the equipment as possible before the second team arrives. I will be on this second team and leave Kansas on December 18th. I will travel first to Christchurch, New Zealand. From their, the second team will be transported via military aircraft to McMurdo base. At McMurdo, I am to undergo some survival training for the field. I will finally ... read more

A truly great event for people who love to look at old machinery and equipment. I saw a rare John Deere Car built by the great farm equipment company John Deere that sold at farm equipment dealership. I also observed an old one room school in operation. Corporal punishment and the school dunce were acted out. A unique demonstration of anvil shooting. Anvil shooting has a long tradition, beginning in colonial days in small settlements that didn't have a church bell or cannon. When the people needed to be called together the local blacksmith would shoot his anvil off and the people would hear it for miles around. One story dates anvil shooting back to the days of Davy Crockett, when anvils were shot in celebration of his election to Congress. ... read more
