9 FEB 2008 I wanted to add a trunk to my Sporty, Effie. I had a dual purpose need of a trunk for the back of my sporty. 1.) I have a new laptop that has a 15” screen. The old laptop would fit in a saddlebag, but the new one is taller than the bag. I had researched waterproof, crushproof computer cases that I might strap on the back rack, but they were very expensive and would still leave the computer unsecured on the back of the bike. 2.) I also wanted to be able to secure (as in LOCK UP) my clothes and gear long trips or my helmet on day trips. THE BRACKET My first concern was how I was going to mount a trunk on the bike. I soon found on ebay ... read more

Hello everyone, I hope that you are having a wonderful holiday season! As many of you know, I will be studying abroad during the 2007 Spring Semester. The study abroad program is sponsored by the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan and there are 40 American students participating in this program. I am leaving December 31, 2006 and heading to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia where I will be taking law school classes at Monash University. I will be in Melbourne until February 17, 2007 and then will be flying to Christchurch, New Zealand (South Island) where I will be taking law school classes at Canterbury University. I will be in Christchurch until April 15, 2007 when I will be returning back to Kansas. I will not be taking my cell phone, so my primary means of ... read more

++ In DEC 09 I found a bunch of my old Xmas letters so I thought I would post them here in my blog. ++ Merry Christmas to ya’ll. Its been a pretty busy year. We are busy as beavers at work, lots of new products coming in and lots to do. Its been a good year for us and promises to be pretty good year next year. I spent most of JAN and most of MAR in the Philippines. I really like the people there, they are so eager to please, at least the ones that don’t want to kill you. J My year has been consumed with the ABC’s of Touring challenge from Harley Davidson. I started planning trips for it in DEC of 05 and took the last trip the 2nd weekend of ... read more

We only had a few days to get ready for Christmas. This is a holiday-event that Linda takes care of. She did most of her shopping in Key West. The Key West retailers are proud to offer American products at a reasonable price. Linda found some great gifts there. I do appreciate the family gatherings. We had a two-shift Christmas as John’s wife Sheila and two daughters were in Corpus Christi Texas over Christmas. We brought back from Jacksonville gifts from Ngat Dao that she had brought from Vietnam for every member of my family including my Uncle Howard. He is the only Uncle I have left and will soon be 95 years old. I tried to talk Ngat out of this but she insisted. She brought over beautiful Vietnamese woodcarvings. It seems that we ... read more

16 December 2006 was forecasted to be a warm Saturday. Correction, make that an unseasonably warm December Saturday. Any December day that is above 60 degrees F yells for a motorcycle ride. I heard the call and started making arrangements on Thursday for the up coming Saturday. This wasn’t going to be an ordinary ride, this week I had been entertaining Santy, an associate from our sister company in the Philippines. This was his first trip to the US and I was trying to show him as much of it as possible in the 2 weeks he was going to be here. When I am in the Philippines, Santy and the rest of the staff there go out of their way to make sure I am comfortable. I try to make their trips special when they ... read more

Day 2 - Watertown, SD Emporia, KS We were happy to see that in ND there was no snow, but that changed quickly in SD. Man it was *&%^# cold, cold in the morning, cold in the afternoon, cold in the evening. 'When are we ever leaving Manitoba?' was my question as there was still snow on the ground 1600km south of Winnipeg, the scenery did not change much and did I mention the cold? We realized that the truck was packed wrong yesterday as it swayed too much on the highway, so the heavy stuff, our dufflebags with clothing, and more was moved forward onto the back bench. And because Yukon weighs too little, as we never feed her enough poor dog (just kidding), got moved to the back of the truck. She did ... read more

Fine but windy 24c ..but I was there. Why the hell am I referring to myself as the third person?!? That's what driving by yourself for 6 or 7 hours does, it drives you crazy! You know how in cartoons sometimes the background repeats itself every few seconds? Well that was me driving to Kansas - barn, tractor, field, bran, tractor, field etc etc. Who can blame me for talking to myself! It felt like I’d sat in every position possible in the seat, listened to every song on my ipod and almost certainly scanned every radio station. A career path as a bus driver or truck driver is almost certainly out of the question. In 5 days I’ve covered almost 2500 miles and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I loved almost every minute ... read more

When a fellow veteran in my HOG group said he wanted to do something for Veterans Day I was excited. Gary Palmer asked all the Vets to meet in the back of the room after the regular meeting was over. That was the start of something great. It soon worked into an event that would start at our local dealer then proceed to Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Yes the one known for the military prison. While in Ft. Leavenworth we would join the local VFW group riders for the big Veterans Day Parade downtown, tour the National Cemetery and eat at a Mexican restaurant before coming home. Veterans Day morning was COLD. When the Saturday morning news said it was 32 degrees outside, I found it hard to get out of bed and think about riding in ... read more
