We were invited to Liberal High School to give our program to the Spanish classes. We took this opportunity to visit the Land of Oz Museum and the great Air Museum. Since Edgar wants to be a pilot, I though this would interest him We met Miressa in Garfield as she was brought there by host Mom, Rotarian Anita Graves. It was a long two and a half hour drive to Liberal but it was worth it. We had a great tour of the Wizard of Os museum by a tour guide named Gary who was a retired teacher. He had complete factual knowledge of the movie and would even sing some of the songs. They really have something to see and would highly recommend this museum. After lunch we went to Liberal High School. It ... read more

Two representatives of our district RITE (Rotary Intercountry Teacher Exchange and YEES (Youth Exchange Spanish English) visited this week. Representing RITE was Marissa Quiroz and YEES Edgar Quintero. Both are from David, Chiriqui, Republic of Panama. Marissa was a 24 year old English Teacher who came to our district to study the methodology of teaching a foreign language. She was impressed with the Kansas teachers who had traveled to David last summer and she came to learn more. She spent three weeks in the Wichita area attending classes in the Wichita schools and Wichita State. She also was filled with the American cultural experience. Edgar Quintero is a 17-year-old student who won a scholarship by the David Rotary Club to come to Kansas and improve his English skills and also get the cultural experience. Both Marissa ... read more

So, as all of you know, I made it home quite safely. I've talked to about half of you and I plan on talking to the other half very soon, so I'll spare the details for this blog. The trip was amazing. I learned a lot, and, hopefully, I'm a better person for it. Check out the route map as it summerizes where I was in it's entirety. I guess I'll keep this blog for when I run off to India on March 9th (maybe). ... read more

So...it's hard to imagine that visiting your HOME might be considered travelling by some, but there have been several requests for coverage of my Christmas in Kansas. And since I have some very handsome pictures of the family, I'm happy to oblige. The vacation undeniably got off to a rough start. A missed connection in New York left me stranded in Brooklyn for 2 days, not a bad place to be...but when you find out via e-mail that your Great Grandmother just passed away, you kind of want to get home as soon as possible. To an outsider, Kansas might seem like the kind of mellow place where time moves slowly and people sit around in rocking chairs sipping coffee. That may be the reality for some, but not for my family! There was no time ... read more

Rotary International has over a hundred fellowships. Just about every thing from golf, flying or any special interest. One that I belong to is the International Travel and Hosting Fellowship. If you like to travel and meet people this is the fellowship for you. I joined this fellowship years ago. Most people see Kansas as a place to drive through or fly over. Actually, we have a lot to see. Within an 1:30 of driving time from my home you can see Dodge City's boot hill, Fort Larned (the only intact Indian fort west of the Missisippi), Santa Fe Trail Museum (the official museum of the Santa Fe Trail), Central States Scout Musuem and Hutchinson's Cosmophere. Two hours away is Wichita which has about everything you want but especially the Museum of World Treasures in old ... read more

This is basically a trial run to see if this blog thing works. I'm only sending it to the immediate family and I'll probably use mass e-mails for friends and everything else. Feel free to share this with whomever you think might be interested. Rod, I think that we'll try to use this for your class. It's one week until departure, and I'm basically just waiting for a lot of things (camera, books, tax forms, etc...). I get more excited everyday. Oh, copy and paste the link below the US map to see what I did today. Post a message or shoot me an e-mail if you were able to read this blog. Hope it works. A lot of people have contacted me and asked about the saddlebags I have mounted on my Sporty Effie. They were shown in the HOG Tails article. I decided the thing to do was to just write a blog about them and show some good detail. I am sure that there are better ways to mount these, but here is how I did it. I am a very functional type of person, it doesn’t need to be pretty, but it needs to be functional. So I wanted hard bags that were waterproof, could store the kitchen sink and were cheap. No $995 hard bags for me. I have a friend that is a professional model maker and motorcycle enthusiast, Roger. Roger told me to find the bags I wanted and we would figure out a way ... read more

Yet another blog on how I installed something on my 2005 883L Sporty, Effie. Working in electronics for 30 years I have no fear at tearing into her wire harness to add another component. I will warn you that my electrical system has been modified so my bike supplies 32 amps of current instead of the stock 21 amps. If you double click on the pictures TravelBlog will take you to an area where these pictures are larger and you can view them in more of a slide show type display. I get questions all the time about how to install a GPS or electronics on a motorcycle. This blog is how I installed my GPS and Satellite Radio using RAM mounts. I learned from experience as I didn’t know anyone that used RAM mounts when ... read more

08 Installing Floorboards on my 05 883 Harley Davidson Sportster, Effie. -- 1 March 2008 Finally a warm day it’s a good day for a ride, but I wanted to put one of the new accessories on that I had bought over the winter. I had decided to try floorboards last year. I spend a lot of time on my bike and have found that it affects the way I walk. The story behind this is the bike is air cooled, on hot days the back cylinder gets really hot because my legs were cutting off the air going to it. So I need to bow my legs out to allow air to get between my legs and the engine. This puts my ankle at an unusual angle. During the summer I wear my boots all ... read more
