I'm Everest bound! After a going away gathering at the house (organized by my sweet husband Gary) and a sleepless night I was ready to get going this morning. The boys were sad, but no tears for now. Of course I have already talked to all of them. My flight to Atlanta was only about half full and on time. Miracles never cease! Getting to fancy smancy International terminal took a little trek with my monster bag, but everyone was very helpful. The check-in process took maybe 30 sec. Very impressive! I have several hours to go, so I'm sure I'll be making my last calls and eating a good lunch. Then I'll sit more, eat more, hopefully sleep some then repeat the whole process again and again one my 14hr flight. Thanks to all who ... read more

Normally the girls have two days off and the weekend for fall break, but this year they changed the calendar so that they have two weeks off! We had looked into going to Japan. My wife lived in Japan for a couple of years and really wanted to go back. As the date got closer, it became clear that Japan would not work for stand-by travel. The flights were very full! We then looked at South America, including Santiago and Buenos Aires. They were not full, but they did not look great either. Besides that, the reciprocity fee down there turns me off. Finally, we decided to fly into Europe and visit a couple of places, specifically Vienna. My wife really wanted to go to a beach, and with winter coming soon, that did not sound ... read more

11-12th Sept ’12 Atlanta, Georgia We drove through Mississippi, a slight wrong turn into Arkansas then through Alabama (which was really green, with loads of forests) to eventually arrive in Atlanta. The whole purpose of coming here was to go to the Uproar Festival in Atlanta the next day. We did a practise run to the venue as we gave up on the idea of trying to get there by public transport and hopefully we will be able to find our way back again in the dark tomorrow! The next day we woke up and got up late and then in the afternoon drove to Aaron’s Amphitheatre for the gig. On our way in we were told that the Lawn was closed (this is the grass area at the back of the amphitheatre and basically the ... read more

You know what today is. I always feel different on this day. I never want to go to work on this day. I want to stay home and watch TV...but I had to work. Ken and I have been sick since we moved in to this apartment. It's really nice looking but is very humid. It smells like mold/mildew. When we rented it, the owner had many candles lit. That should have been a clue. I think we were anxious and excited to get settled. Don't do that. Take your time. Thankfully we only agreed on one month. So last weekend we looked for apartments and found one downtown. I've never lived in a downtown. We are excited and hope we made a good choice. We signed a 7 month lease. It is not furnished, so ... read more

We spend the last couple days getting settled. We paid our first rent and actually did laundry at the apartment. We will move our 'stuff-mainly clothes' in Tuesday and actually sleep there. We only agreed on one month to see if we like it. It is a basement apartment and although it doesn't look like a basment, there could be some dampness. Anyway, we did laundry; I had more paperwork to complete. We had a late lunch, got gas and headed back to the campground. We took a walk and sat by the lake. Ducks from across the lake heard us and came swimming over, got out of the lake and walked up to us. After a few minutes since we didn't have anything to feed them, they got back in the lake and swam away. ... read more

Atlanta stopover birthday fun I have planned my second summer vacation for Central America, and on my way there, I had an extended layover in Atlanta. I flew from Zurich to Atlanta on my birthday. It was an early flight, so I had to get up at 5am to get the bus to the tram to the train that takes me to the airport. Luckily for me (and unfortunately for the cats) Jeroen had to fly to Dresden at the same time, so we were able to go to the airport together, which was nice. We had to say good bye when we arrived though, and then I was waiting and waiting and waiting for Delta to do their job and take my bag after I checked in at the kiosk. I have never seen a ... read more

Tuesday 29th of May Another dreaded bloody travel day. We had said our goodbyes in the evening, as we new in the morning when we woke up both Phil and Kyle would already be at work. We do not usually go out before travel days. But this time we didn't drink too much so we were ok. Just tired. We dragged ourselves out of bed, had a shower and packed our bags ready to say bye to probably the nicest place we will stay for a very long time. We left to get the bus to the train station where we met. 'The Crazy drunk lady,' she was drinking a cocktail she had made in a vitamin water bottle. She was smoking like a chimney and she talked a lot of rubbish. We tried to keep ... read more

Monday 28th may Atlanta After a well needed chilled night in, we were well rested and ready to hit the park to give our new purchase (American football) a tester and also to check out the Atlanta jazz festival. It was memorial day you see which gives everyone the day off. Off we went only stopping for a Moe's monday $5 burrito that we had been reccomended. Maybe not the best thing to eat before a run around the park but hay ho, we are idiots. A moment of joy came to me when I realised riches dismay when he had forgot his camera. All the trees and squirrels were safe for the day. We turned the corner into the park whilst Rich was quoting the film The Hangover and shouting "***k the police". And of ... read more

Michael woke me up to see if i was still alive, and say that Phillip and Kyle were ready to go to the all you can eat Indian they told us about and were we still coming. Well my stomach was already turning and I was overheating badly. Struggling to move again for fear of chunder. I made my way to the shower flipped it straight to cold and hopped in hoping that it would some how shock my body back into its normal self. How wrong I was.
