Saturday February 11, 2012 Ocala Sun RV Resort A very very lazy day for me. Slept late, went for breakfast in my pajamas (just ran in and got a cup of coffee and ran out.) I took Winston for multiple long walks. I just didn’t feel like doing anything. It was cold – long sleeved shirt, sweat shirt, long pants all day long!!! I must tell you what the group did, though. They visited Gypsy Gold Farm, home of the Gypsy Vanner Horses. www.gypsygold.com The 3 pictures herein were taken by Kathy E. Thanks Kathy!!!! I can’t wait to see your blog with more. A gypsy vanner is a horse bred to pull the gypsy wagons. The farm is owned and operated by the man who first discovered there was such a horse, and he has ... read more

I can't believe it's been a week since I left home. I spent last Fri and Sat night in Laurel, MD with my son and daughter in law. They are busy renovating the Phelps House in downtown Laurel for a B&B but right now it's distruction time. What an adventure! Sunday morning Feb 5th I left MD and drove to South Carolina on I 95. The traffic was light and I made good time and was able to get settled by the time the super bowl came on. The picture wasn't the greatest but the game sure was and my team won.. I arrived in Jacksonville on Monday afternoon and checked into the Flamingo Lake RV resort and met up with my friend John who is spending the winter here. The walk around the lake is ... read more

Friday February 10, 2012 Ocala Sun RV Resort Brrrrr it was cold this morning. Quick walk for Winston, shower for me, and into the rec hall for breakfast, sausage and waffles. Yummy. This LOW club, MidLows, finds campgrounds that offer reasonably priced campsites and a rec hall with cooking facilities so the host can prepare meals for us. Campers pay $5 fee for the luxury of having someone cook, but all chip in to rearrange furniture, do the dishes, etc. It’s a nice camaraderie feeling here. Immediately after breakfast I went with Bobbi, driving, and Kathy E, also passenger, to the Market at Marion. I love this flea market. Much of it is covered; cement floors, but open sides, so you are outside, but not really. There are outside vendors, but not so many on Friday. ... read more

Thursday February 9, 2012 It got cold last night. There really is a climate change being this far north in the state. The Ocala area is greener, gets more rain and there are no more orange trees, the scenery has changed to massive beautiful horse farms. And, cold at night. Continental breakfast at 8:30, followed by some games in the rec hall. I have now learned how to play Mexican Train (dominos) Chicken Foot (more dominos) and Farkle in addition to last nights 31. You can teach an old broad new tricks. After lunch I joined Pat and Beth in a trip to 2 different Dollar Stores – Pat was looking for rubber alligators for a game for a future campout. 3:30 cocktail hour brought 20 of us together for lively conversation, a lot of laughs, ... read more

Wednesday February 8, 2012 Palm Harbor FL to Ocala, FL I slept like a rock last night. I think the animals wore me out as well as themselves. I was up and out early. Garmina and Siri both failed me this morning. I could not force either one of them to get me to I75 northbound without going on The Toll Road. Garmina went ballistic when I made a turn, and finally had to turn her off. I have a vague familiarity with this part of FL, and knew if I headed north and east I would eventually hit it. I pointed my nose and went. Then I had a brilliant idea, find a post office and mail the grandkids Valentine cards, then turn Garmina back on and find I75. I ended up passing thru Land ... read more

My goal for today was to do as little as possible in Rainbow Springs. Since I had laundry and other chores, I partially succeeded. Rainbow Springs proper is a large spring whose flow becomes the Rainbow River. It became the base of the Rainbow Springs amusement park in the 1930s. At its height, it had an “underwater ride” (actually a glass-bottomed boat tour) an exotic animal zoo, a canopy sky ride, and even a rodeo arena. Unfortunately, it could not compete with a newer theme park based on a mouse (guess which one) and closed in the late 1970s. The land was abandoned for a decade before the state finally acquired it for the park. The visitor’s center has a map of the former park, to compa... read more

A week in the Ocala National Forest Located in Northern Florida, The Ocala National Forest is a land of many uses. A week RV camping with friends Dick and Cheryl would allow us a thankful opportunity to experience many of the exciting activities that are available in the Ocala National Forest. From previous visits, Dick and Cheryl knew about Salt Springs Recreation Area. A fee area that gives daytime access to Salt Springs, it is also a Forest Service campground offering a variety of amenities ranging from full-hookup RV sites to primitive tent camping sites. Operated by a concessionaire, the campground is staffed by a lot of very nice people who do go out of their way to be helpful. Dick had called ahead and reserved us both full-hookup sites. The RV sites are serviced by ... read more

Wednasday, we caught the free shuttle bus into town from the campground. Man can the guy talk, he just waffles and in amongst it there is some really interesting stuff. He dropped us off right in the center of the 'French Quarter' by the river. So we walked down to ' Bourbon street' which is famous for its partying nature. Pretty quiet at 10.30am!! We looked around at the little nic nak shops all over the place with their touristy stuff for sale. Some, as usual is really nice, other stuff is just tacky. After lunch we caught our city bus tour. A 2 hour history tour of the area. Quite interesting , The port started in 1718 as a French-Canadian outpost. The mass importation of African slaves came by 1720. The Spanish were next, then ... read more

Thursday we looked at more trailers, then on friday we drove into Orlando to meet Tom who had a 2004 31ft Dutchman travel trailer for sale. It had everything we wanted, 4 bunks, 1 slide that the couch and table are in.plenty of storage space and Tom had also built an extra cupboard where there was some space for pots and shelves for tin foods etc. It also came with the anti-sway bars hitch , that stops the trailer from waving around as much when we drive along. So after a short negotiation, he proceeded to show us all how it works and what we needed to know. We hooked her on and off we went. Found a space for it at Mum and Dads.Chris arrived up from West Palm Beach on friday night. We had ... read more
