Thursday night we had tea and then went over to Trish and Tommys place. Kids had a ball playing with Ethan and Grace and Trish and I tried to set up their new notebooks to our computer so the kids can talk to each other on windows live when we're back in NZ. Everyone managed to stay awake to see the ball drop in Times square, New York, where we were yesterday. Dick Clarke came on as he has done for the last 36 years, Ryan Seacrest hosted the show from there as Dick had a stroke last year and is not quite what he used to be.We saw where New Zealand was the 1st place in the world to celebrate new years from the sky tower. Friday we got up early and did the last ... read more

Thursday, we went back down to Columbus flea market as that is normally their busy day. I had to help push some guys car out as we were walking in as it was ice and snow everywhere. Even the stall holders were shovelling ice out around their little sites. There were heaps of people there. Josh and I bought gloves for $1 on the way in, best buy of the day. Bought some more cheap suitcases. Had lunch down there, kebabs on a bbq in the freezing weather. At night we went over to Barbara's (Christa's daughter ) where they all get together and exchange gifts for each other. At thanksgiving they each draw out someone in the families name and thats who they have to buy a present for. Christmas day we had to get ... read more

Thursday, we slept our last night in the trailer last night, Its been awesome for what we wanted and it holds alot of good memories of our trip around. We said our goodbyes to Mum and Dad and got on our way north. It usually takes about 10 hours to get to Evans place in Hickory, North Carolina. We hit a traffic jam coming up I-95, managed to get off and wind our way thru some back roads to get over to another main road. We pulled into our motel at 8pm , 11 hours after we left. We drove around to Evan's place to find the house open but no one home. We walked right up to the lounge calling out to no reply, just as we were driving out Tori said she saw Maria ... read more

Wednesday night we went to Hoffmans chocolate shop that actually makes their own chocolates. Anyway out the back every year they set up christmas lights around a park area they have. Theyv'e got a huge mimiature train set going. It was nice, but of course the idea is to get you into their shop. So we bought some chocolates and had an ice cream while we were there. Thursday we got up and got away about 9am. Heading down the turnpike and went around Miami driving south. Stopped at a visitor center in Key Largo, beautiful sunny day on the way down there. We stopped at one of the keys , at a resort but there was no one on the gate so we just drove in and parked up by the sea. Found a nice ... read more

Thursday the 26th( Thanksgiving day) We woke up about 4.30am as we didn't want to sleep in. Had breakfast and drove to Orlando airport. We dropped our car off in a long stay parking place and they dropped us off at the airport. Over here we had to check in on line last night and print out our own boarding pass, we also had to pay $15 per bag on line. Its $20 per bag if you do it at the airport. We had a good flight over to Vegas, we flew over the Meteor crator and Hoover Dam on the way in. We were meet at the baggage carousel by a man with a sign saying my mame. So we grabbed our bags and followed him. Out the door and into the Limo parking area. ... read more

Wednasday, we caught the free shuttle bus into town from the campground. Man can the guy talk, he just waffles and in amongst it there is some really interesting stuff. He dropped us off right in the center of the 'French Quarter' by the river. So we walked down to ' Bourbon street' which is famous for its partying nature. Pretty quiet at 10.30am!! We looked around at the little nic nak shops all over the place with their touristy stuff for sale. Some, as usual is really nice, other stuff is just tacky. After lunch we caught our city bus tour. A 2 hour history tour of the area. Quite interesting , The port started in 1718 as a French-Canadian outpost. The mass importation of African slaves came by 1720. The Spanish were next, then ... read more

Monday ,leaving Houston, the 4th largest city in America behind, we drove up north today to Fort Worth , Texas. We saw a few of the small oil wells, well I think they were. The ones that look like giant hammers going up and down very slowly. They are scattered around the place , but we seem to come across about 20 of them and then no more for awhile. Got set up and then went and got some groceries after our bbq tea. Awesome evenings except for the bloody mozzies, they are shocking at the moment, so had to move inside. Tuesday , we drove around the downtown area of Fort Worth. Over the bridge and down into the flat land known as ' The Stockyards ', 125 acres of one of the biggest saleyards ... read more

On monday night, Wayne took us for a look around the base where he works. Then we all went ten-pin bowling at the base. 51 lanes, not a bad size bowling centre, sports bar the works. Then we went out for tea after that. We went to a nice chinese buffet restaurant. The highlight of the night was Sophie eating a whole Octopus for $20 bucks. No one thought she would do it, but she did. Tuesady , we said our good byes and hit the road. Thanks heaps to Wayne and Jill and the girls, we had an awesome week as they opened up their house to us, and made us feel very welcome. Not far out of El Paso and we hit a border patrol in the middle of know where. Jill said they ... read more

Tuesday, we managed to keep in front of the impending low front system behind us. Got to the McAsey's about 5pm, Theyv'e got very nice neighbours who let us park our trailer beside their house. Wayne was on the ball and had cooked us a very nice dinner. Alysha had left that morning for Vegas , so we took over her room. Nice to have a normal bed for a change. Wayne had matress's for the kids too, so they found a space on the floor and for the 1st time in months we deserted the poor old trailer and slept in the house. Wednesday, we slept in and had nothing at all planned for the day. Wayne and the girls went off to work and school, Kylie caught up on some washing, I baked and ... read more

Monday, we drove over to Bryce canyon. It’s was a good 2 hrs from Cedar city, mind you we took the scenic route. Found a little Indian shop on the way into the Park, bought some cool ornaments. Once at the visitor centre we watched the movie, bought some postcards, and had lunch. As we have missed the peak season by a week, the shuttle service has now stopped. So we got to do a self guided tour. First stop was at sunset point, where we walked down the Navajo trail. What an amazing sight, after walking down the steep hillside of soft red rock. We came to these tall spires called ‘Hoodoos’. Erosion has worn away at them over the thousands of years and left behind these magnificent shaped rocks. All the different colours are ... read more
