Thanks to Jo, Jess and Drew for an amazing week in this beautiful city in California!... We finished our 4 month extended honeymoon with a week in San Francisco ... with the tour guide from heaven! Highlights include.... * Awakening every morning to a handwritten itinerary from our 'tour guide' Jo (look her up if you go to SF!) complete with mapped out route! * Stunning city, beautiful weather, chilly wind and crazy hills (ahhhh just like Welly!), great outdoor (and indoor) art, random street performers * Cycling over the Golden Gate bridge....completed fogged out while on the bridge and cloudless skies once we were off * Visiting permaculture gardens and our first rooftop garden throughout the city...lets get these going back home!...so easy, just add people and a bit of spare time... * Driving up ... read more

The homeless and mentally ill of San Francisco are surprisingly accomplished at chess. How I should come across this notion, oh best beloved, I am sure you are gagging to be told. Well... As Keenan and Kel (Peace Be Upon Them) once said: awwwwwww heeeeerrre gooes! There is no end of vibrations between the sprawling blocks on the North side of the city. My stay here is chiefly of instrumental value this time around - gathering equipment for Burning Man which I do not know I need yet is the mission statement. I carry out this arduous task in parallel with my client who cannot be named for legal reasons. However her gender can be revealed. She is the laid back type, through and through. A worthy travel companion who possesses an exquisite understanding with animals, ... read more

Went to a really nice quiet restaurant for breakfast, had eggs, crispy bacon & real toast fro a change.......now this breakfast was delicious. Walked down to catch the trolley cart to Pier 43, got off & then caught a bus up to Lombard Street. We were going to see the most Crockiest Street in the World. To get up the hill we had to walk & yes the hill was very steep. It felt like 90 degress, tough going, my calves & thighs were burning by the time we got to the top. What a quirky little street, windy & crooked for around 50 metres long, it was very steep & beautiful with green hedges & lovely flowers in full bloom, very pretty. Got to the bottom of the hill & this was terrific, had a ... read more

I have no idea why I woke up at 5.00am but I did....it is what it is...right Jase!!!! Today was the day we go bike riding along the Golden Gate Bridge, this is going to be a big day. Stepped out of our hotel around 8.00, walked down to another little Diner called Max's & had breakfast it was good. Nice to have crispy bacon & eggs, but not so nice to get served up potatoes again, left these to the side, over the whole have fried up potatoes for breakfast. Walked down to catch a Trolley Cart which would take us to Pier 39, where we would grab the bikes for the day & ride along the wharves. The bike company's name was Blazing Saddles, very well ran company. Got on the bikes & progressed ... read more

Greetings from San Francisco, where yesterday, at 6am, I arrived after a night train and bus, looking less than fresh and functioning on two hours sleep. Feeling cold and pretty much like a bag of crap, I took a brief wonder around the Golden Gate Park and maybe slightly negatively began to wonder what all the hype re San Francisco was all about. The surprising chilly air here soon saw me into my bed around the 8pm mark last night, where in my dorm, I met and proceeded to chat away with two very friendly Swiss girls. After a caffine injection coke and hot shower, they soon twisted my arm into a little tour of mission street to hit some bars. My mind was already starting to change as we found a lovely little bar ... read more

Today we left Buellton, CA after staying at a FANTASTIC Best Western motel with wonderful beds. I think if I've learned anything about myself on this trip, it's the importance of a good mattress and how it effects my life the following day. I had a great day today because I had a great mattress last night -- maybe. Our Bible text today was from Luke 2:41-50. It was Passover and twelve year-old Jesus traveled with his parents to Jerusalem to the Temple. Jesus got into some conversation with the religious leaders and I'm guessing he was talking Torah and Pentateuch with them and discussing Old Testament theology. Whatever they were talking about, I'm guessing the religious leaders were impressed with his ability to talk shop with them. It occurred to me that he was talking ... read more

Hey! What a crazy day. We went to the Asian Art Museum to see the Samurai exhibit and met up with our couch surfing friend Michael. After that we attempted to go to a block party which was really dumb. Then we went to Tommy's, a great mexican restaurant and started drinking margaritas. Oh boy this is going to be short....we ended up at Anna's house for dinner and hung out with Luca and a bunch of other Charleston people it was awesome!!!!! And now I'm eating cheesecake...and our couch surfing friend is coming skydiving with us tomorrow. Sorry this wasn't more interesting I've been drinking lots of wine. Goodnight1... read more

Before breakfast we decided it was prudent to do a last laundry load before home, and with a late checkout (12pm) it was ideal. Then down to breakfast - waffles no less! - and packed up the car ready to head to SF. We arrived at our motel on Lombard St early morning. Luckily our room was ready, so we could dump our stuff and head out for lunch. A nice couple gave us their two "all day transport passes" as we checked in - funnily enough it was a girl that Karina had tried to photograph on the way down Van Ness Ave - they'd obviously dressed up for the race (see below). We found a deli nearby before heading off on a "self-guided tour" that Karina had transcribed from the net. The weather was ... read more
