We left Alanna’s at about 10 and walked to Golden Gate Park. She lives on the edge of the panhandle, which is the start of the park. We walked through some of the main areas and saw the Japanese tea gardens, a couple of museums and the conservatory of flowers. There was a nice fountain in the park and we sat and took some photos. Then we caught the bus to the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately it was a really foggy day, unlike the day before, so we couldn’t see the top of it. It was still pretty impressive though! We were planning on catching the bus to the pier where the tours leave for Alcatraz, but we met a nice Indian man and his daughter who told us about Ghrardelli Square, so we decided to ... read more

Mom turned 75 this week. She lives near San Francisco but was on a cruise from San Diego to Vancouver BC that stopped in San Francisco on her birthday. So we had a surprise party for her at restaurant in San Francisco. She continued her cruise today towards Canada. We are a rambling family. ... read more

Went to the giants stadium and did a tour.. was good to go behind the scenes and see things you wouldnt normally get to see at a game, but was maybe about an hour too long.. After the stadium, we took a drive over the golden gate bridge to muir woods. As the name suggests, it is a place in the woods, with lots of trees..( a national park to be exact). These redwood trees were the biggest mofo's i have ever seen, in both width and height. was a really nice walk through the bush with great views. Reminded me alot of the scenery of NZ. On sun: Played ladies touch American football. Was heaps of fun, went to watch my friends play, but they were short so ended up playing.. after a 5 min ... read more

Empiezo a pensar ... read more

What an absolutely beautiful day in S.F! The sun was shining and everyone was outside soaking it up . After a nice breakfast Mom and I went exploring before we met up with our tour at 11:30. We poked around in a few chocolate shops and places along fishermans wharf on our way to the ferry landing where we would be meeting up with the tour. It felt great to sit on a bench and bask in the sun while looking out over the serene waters of the S.F bay. Soon enough we were underway with our 5 hour tour of S.F where we saw so many great things. So as not to bore you I will give you the highlights, some of which weren't even supposed to be on the tour! First we drove by ... read more

Well today was the promised sunshiney day - albeit without any actual heat. Pleasant enough when you were in the sun but freezing if not. We got off to a good start meandering down in plenty of time to catch the 11 am bus city tour - only to find that we were in ample time for the 9 am. For the second time on this trip, we messed our arrangements by an hour - but in defence, Daylight saving finished overnight and we didn’t know about it. A win at last as we slept in AND caught the early tour! The tour was good taking us over the bridge, out to the ocean beach, up to the highest point over the city then down to pier 39. We saw most of the recommended sights along ... read more

Well it had to happen I suppose. Woke to pouring rain that lasted until about 2.30 or so. Even so, we wandered down and thru Fishermans' Wharf (really just a big retail comlex like a poor mans Darling Harbour or Docklands). Interesting though. There is a submarine and a Liberty Ship set up as museums/Exhibitions, and we chose to go thru the Sub. Really interesting - and cramped and well organised as you would expect. This is a WW11 job that has been restored and from some of the notices around, you can spend overnight on it as a group - although I am not sure why you would want to. Anyway, it was interesting and filled some of the rainy time. When the day improved we climbed up Lombard Street - 'The crookedest Street in ... read more

Well, not that much to share with you today. Uneventful drive from Yosemite to SF - all fine until a real traffic snarl at the SF end trying to cross the bay. I paid a toll (no idea how much - that little joy is still in store), and still we were stuck in 5 lanes on a Saturday afternoon. Anyway, hotel seems ok and well located. Before we left, we headed off to the south entrance to Yosemite to check out the giant sequoia trees. Fabulous these - the largest at our location was 8.5 metres across at the base (see pic with Chris). It took a while to get there and back and added substantially to the drive, but was worth it. Before we left we took some more pics at Yosemite Bug Resort ... read more
