Hello Hello! Pardon my lack of updates and ignore your frustration to those who I promised an update a couple of week ago because an update this is. That being said, life isn’t as interesting as it was as a cadet and there’s only so much interest I can talk about. The last month I spent most of my time on the night watch, this had me being on the bridge from just after midnight to 830 in the morning. After watch I’d do the rest of my work and I was generally finished by noon. This was convenient for going ashore if I managed to make it to bed at a decent time and do it all over again. I managed to make it ashore a couple times too! I’m now on the evening watch ... read more

The diving and surface interval have been exciting and unexpected in Cozumel this last month! As I have already blogged, a couple of days ago we saw False Killer Whales on our dive at Yucab reef, today we had the incredible good luck to run into Pilot Whales during our surface interval! One of them swam right under the bow as I leaned over and took photos. I wish I had had my little GOPRO Hero2...a video would have been better than photos. Of course, you never have what you need handy, right? zuWe saw Pilot Whales last year at this exact time, and apparently the False Killer whales have been seen this time of year for 4 years, so it appears a migration is taking place. No complaints here! It is so exciting to see ... read more

It is all over the island: False Killer Whales spotted near dive boats and on dive sites. My husband, Randy, our son Wes and his friend Charlie were diving Yucab Reef when we spotted them. They looked like HUGE dolphins....but dolphins don't grow to 10 feet or so, do they??? They swam around our boat and we spotted them on the dive. Sadly, I wasn't close enough for a photo. But the dive was fantastic: smooth trunkfish were mating, lobsters and crabs everywhere, several Splendid Toadfish which are only found on Cozumel, and a lovely, large nurse shark! A truly wonderful dive. After we dove Yucab we headed to Villa Blanca for a twilight dive. We found dozens of baby lobsters under a coral head! I have never seen anything like it....they were everywhere. A Common ... read more

Funny to think that, just a couple of weeks ago, we were standing in front of the same cruise, looking at the people embarking. And now we were in the other side, on Royal Caribbean's "Jewel of the Seas", waiting excited for our departure. So, like I said before, this history starts a few weeks ago when my Uncle took me to Tampa for the first time (but that’s another history), and in the bay, we saw this ship and he asks me "Have you ever been in a cruise?" and when I answered no, he decided to take me to my first cruise. The ship itself was amazing. Full of interesting people from every corner of the world, with so much to do, and so little time. And so much to eat. What can I ... read more

Quintana Roo was definitely the most beautiful place we visited on our cruise. The beaches were prisitne and the towns were clean and the weather was fabulous. The ship docked in Cozumel but we hopped on a ferry soon after arriving at the island to go on our excursion to Tulum to see the Mayan Ruins. The ferry ride was about 45 minutes of naeseating waves to arrive in Playa Del Carmen. As soon as we arrived, I wanted to explore this beautiful place, hearing the calls of exotic birds and wildlife all around me. But we had no time to look around as we were quickly herded onto buses heading for Tulum. From what I saw of Playa Del Carmen I would definitely recommend visiting it and I wish I couldve spent more time there. ... read more

In 8 cruises, I’ve never really booked an independent excursion outside of the one time I went to Roatan and we hired a taxi for the day. I was a little worried about booking a bar hop that would leave us with only a 30 minute buffer to be back to the ship before it set sail. With prayers said and fingers crossed – and the trust in all the positive online reviews, we booked with www.cozumelbarhop.com and sent our $20 deposits to strangers in Cozumel in advance of the cruise. When we arrived in Cozumel, we followed the instructions on our confirmation emails, which led us out of the port area, down the street, and to a 7-11 convenience store as a meeting point. Ryan and Dana were with me and Jason, and with this ... read more

I wasnt sure whether to call this ´Cruise Ship Cozumel´but decided against it as it has so much more going for it. But truth be told, Cozumel is very American, full of Americans, either on holiday or let off from a cruise ship for the day. We saw a few bars with Americans drinking massive cocktails with balloon animal hats. Gave me an idea of what the Mayan Riviera is like on spring break and I don´t want to be here! Apart from this, Cozumel is beautiful regardless. We booked a budget hotel in the centre of town which was 50 metres from the beach, but they didnt say that you dont really swim at this beach! You have to go further out of town and then you can find some stunning places to stay. A ... read more
