Off we go toward the most important day of our lives together. Onward to Mexico, feeling a bit melancholy to be leaving home again, but off we go. We all made plans where and when to meet, who will ride in which van, what flights come in to Puerto Vaillarta when... wow, what a load of information to keep straight. One of Johns' groomsmen Kelley, was unable to get his passport for the trip out of the country and was thinking he would not be able to make it, simply not an acceptable situation. Kelley has to be there or things just would not be complete. Well, he figured out that he could cross the border on foot with his drivers license. That seems to be a great idea... so he re-books new tickets from ... read more

Geo: 20.6509, -105.215Woke up around 8:00 today and watched the ship pull into the bay near Puerto Vallarta. It was overcast but very warm and humid. Nikki came out on the verandah about 15 minutes later. We watched the ship dock and then woke the girls up for breakfast. We all got ready and went up to Topsiders to eat. We had a little time after breakfast so we stopped by Guest Services and then went and sat by the windows on deck 3 for a while before going to Diversions to meet for our Canopy Adventure. After meeting in Diversions and getting off the ship we got in a small boat and took about a five minute ride across the bay where the offices are for the provider of the tour. We checked in and ... read more

Greetings all, This is the first of hopefully many to come. I like to start my adventures with lack of sleep, complete unpreparedness, and sheer panic. I arrived in Puerto Vallarta at 2:45 this afternoon with high hopes. As promised the woman who owns the apartment I am going to rent picked me up at the airport. I'm not much for small talk, especially after being introduced to humid, 90 degree heat in the jeans I thought would be such a great idea to wear on the plane but she was very kind. She showed me where I would be living for the next 2.5 months starting on Sunday. It is a very cute bottom floor apartment in an old Mexican neighborhood within easy walking distance of the Malecon and most importantly, the beach. In the ... read more

Note to the reader: I lived in Puerto Vallarta in a little pink house I called Casa Rosita for four winters writing, reading, taking art and Spanish classes and living la vida dulce. Since then, many things have changed; the city has grown and the lifestyle is vastly influenced by Americans and Canadians. I write from the perspective of being a long-time visitor to Vallarta and area. Puerto Vallarta May 25th 2008 It’s official: the ex-pats have taken over my beloved Vallarta. I am sitting on the patio at Starbuck’s, the final frontier of the coffee world. I need to find my bearings in the new landscape of life here and I will suss out a Mexican café for my lattes, someplace with beans from Chiapas. The Starbuck’s is located in a mall near the hotel, ... read more

The following entries (Mexico and the summer) are backdated entries capturing some great memories from the past year. We have found this is a great way to journal and capture these experiences so if you choose to join us, enjoy. Landing in Puerto Vallarta, we were extremely excited to be spending the next week in a little bit of Paradise. Our trip started out with a great night at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver with Glenn, Sue and the girls. Arriving in Mexico with a taxi awaiting (the airport scene as you exit is reminiscent of many places where pandemonium reigns). We beat the Mattice's to the hotel so Marla was able to use her amazing negotiation skills and secured us a huge room with a great view and even set Glenn and Sue up with ... read more

and that is an understatement. we are spending the evening in the touristy (yet large and with the potential to find a place that has a longer clutch cable for lindsie´s bike so that we can put different handlebars on it and allow her riding to be that much more comfortable) puerto vallarta. that of course is on mainland mexico...some might refer to it as ´real´mexico. to get here we had to cross the sea of cortez on a ferry... perhaps one of the more miserable 17 hour periods of my life. we both succeeded in getting food poisoning...my realization came when i had just enough time to make it to the rail before i vomited and did other dirty uncontrollable things to myself. lindsie had just enough time to help my sorry butt to a ... read more

Little did I know what adventure laid ahead of us when Leon and I departed on a bus to Lago de Morenos with the Xiutla dance group. The bus trip alone was quite something as we tried to sleep on the 8.5 hour bus ride. We took off about 10:30 p.m. from a park close to our condo and arrived in a pretzel position about 7 am. I slept with two inches of space between my knees and the back of the seat in front of me as the person in that seat decided to be very comfortable with the seat extended back as far as it would go. When we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised by a very nice hotel with a wonderful room for about $60/night. Our previous experiences with this group and ... read more

Well we´ve had quite a week and covered quite a few towns and beaches that I´ll briefly run down...The Great Pacific Coast Beach Tour began not in a beach town but in Guadalajara, which I can now inform you is officially FAR from Mexico, although the boredom was relieved slightly by the free sandwich and drink that travelling Premiere class gets you! I watched about 4 films on the bus, one about an American boy who went to play for Newcastle United which made me want to come home (particualy the GNER train shot...haha what a loser I am!) and then a French film dubbed into Spanish about a small town which needs a doctor so they stalk the English locum to make him stay and pretend to love jazz music and cricket, which was really ... read more
