Until Our Europe Trip 2013

Asia » Hong Kong December 29th 2012

Day 6 - December 29, 2012 - Hong Kong, China Today is a bit cloudy and cooler than it was yesterday. The day started with a walk down to the harbor and a quick picture of the Bruce Lee statue along the Walk of Stars. We then ate a quick breakfast at the hotel before heading off to the Chi Lin Nunnery and gardens. The gardens were very manicured and lent the place a certain formal serenity. The nunnery itself sits right next to some very tall buildings which made for an interesting interplay between the calmness of the nunnery itself and the energy of the city that exists right outside its doors. After our visit to the nunnery, we headed into central Hong Kong to explore some areas we had not yet made it to. ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Hong Kong Island » The Peak December 28th 2012

Days 4-5 - December 27-28 On day 4, we headed off from Bangkok to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is such a high-energy place. It feels like New York City of the east! Non-stop, bright lights, great transit system, crowds at all times of the day and night. It is fun just experiencing all of the energy. After getting to the hotel, we went down to Victoria Harbor to see the "Symphany of Lights" show where they offer a coordinated laser, light show from the buidlings on Hong Kong island. We then explored the area around the hotel. On day 5, we got an early start and took the famed Star Ferry from Kowloon over to Hong Kong island. The ferry ride offers some great views of the Hong Kong city-scape. We then made our way to ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok December 26th 2012

Long day of travel Well we left for the airport at 5:00am Christmas eve and finally arrived in Bangkok at 11:00pm Christmas day. Quite a long journey but it is now behind us. So we get to Bangkok just before the last Train leaves to the city. They didn't have this train the last time we were in Bangkok and I was eager to try it as a way to and from the airport. We made it to the train ok and it is nice and convenient. But what I didn't realize was that by the time we would get to downtown, the rest of our connecting metro options would already be closed down for the night. So, we ended up with a taxi anyway! But it was then a shorter taxi ride than it would ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Saint Martin September 1st 2011

We have been back home for a week or so now. We usually write our travel blog while at our destinations. But since Facebook is our main communication tool with our friends and families and because this trip was very short, we just did not have time to write our travel blog. Nonetheless, we want to document our trip and publish our pictures here in the travel blog so that 5 or 10 years from now, we can look back and remember what we did while on this trip. Here are some of the highlights from our Caribbean trip. Day 1, September 1st, 2011 - Saint Martin: We arrived in St Martin around 2 pm local time. After checking in to our hotel, we went to Sunset Beach Bar at Maho beach and watched the planes ... read more

Europe » Italy May 29th 2011

We are writing this blog on our flight home. This trip has been very hectic and we didn't have much to relax as we ran from one site to the next. As a result, we weren't able to keep up with the blog as well as we had been able to in Asia. Our Asian trips usually included a bit of R&R but this trip was go, go, go! Day 7 - May 25 - Rome, Italy... Today, we used our second day in Rome to explore more of the city. Rome is a big city with narrow alley ways and winding paths. It can be difficult to find your way but once you figure out a few main streets, the city becomes much easier to navigate. We visited inside the Coloseum for a couple of ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome May 24th 2011

Day 6 - Rome, Italy We left Sorrento this morning after one more visit to the hotel's garden. The garden is filled with blooming jasmine and citris trees that smell so good. So relaxing... But on to Rome. We arrived at our hotel in Rome about 2:00 pm. My first impression of Rome is that it is a big city and very hectic with winding roads that are make finding places a real feat. So many tourists every where you look - all with maps in hand and puzzled looks on their faces. We were right out there in the mix. Rome stands in sharp contrast to the relaxing vibe of Sorrento. We spent the day visiting many of the popular sites including Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Plaza Navona where we had lunch, then on to ... read more

Europe » Italy » Campania » Naples May 23rd 2011

Day 5 of our Italy trip: Today is our last full day in Sorrento. Since we had done most of the towns close to Sorrento, we decided to head back to Naples to visit the Archaeological Musem of Napoli which hold most of the artifics from the Pompei site we visited yesterday. The musem also holds many statues from varous periods and paintaing from the 12th century. Once we were done with the museum, we walked toward the Castle that we had visited previously. We had lunch and desserts from a well known cafe near plaza Realto. We are now back at the hotel to finish up this blog then clean up and head out for a nice last dinner here at Sorrento. Tomorrow we will travel to Rome where we are staying for 5 days ... read more

Europe » Italy » Campania » Capri May 22nd 2011

Day 4 was spent visiting Capri island. We took the ferry from Sorrento which took about 30 minutes. Capri is like most of the Amalfi coast in that it is dramatic cliffs with a town or two build into the side of them. Our favorite part of Capri was taking the chairlift up to the top of Anacapri. The ride was so peaceful and relaxing as you slowly rise through very green, lush, gardens and smell various flowers as you make your way to the top. From the top of the chairlift, you could see just about all of Capri island. We then walked through Anacapri and Capri itself which was filled with souvenir shops, geloto stands, and resturants.... read more

Europe » Italy » Campania » Pompei May 21st 2011

Day 3 of our trip was a busy day which started late since we overslept. We were going to try to get to Pompeii by 9:00 or so but didn't wake up until after 10:00. At least we are now caught up on our sleep! Pompeii was great. So much to see there - all the while looking up at the active volcano that caused all the damage. We spent about 4 hours there and still didn't see everything. Then it was on to Naples. From all I had heard, I thought that Naples was going to be one big trash bin with unsavory characters at every corner. We walked around the city for several hours and encountered neither. I think the army had came in last week and cleaned up a lot of the trash. ... read more

Europe » Italy » Campania » Amalfi May 20th 2011

This will be a short blog because I am tried and just have jetlag. Woke up this morning at 4 am local time and could not go back to sleep. This means we had an early morning to start. Since our Hotel breakfast was not served until 7 am, we went for a walk to check out Sorrento Harbor where usually people take a ferry to Capri Island. We now know where to catch on the ferry to Capri... After breakfast, we went to buy our bus tickets at the train station where we begin our bus trip from Sorrento to Amalfi, then Ravello and finally a stop at Positano on our way back to Sorrento. Which town do we like the most? As for me, I like Positano even though all of the places that ... read more
