After the bus journey from Halifax to PEI, we've now decided that it's a rubbish way to travel and should not be encouraged. It had been cold in Halifax but we were still unprepared for snow the first evening in Charlottetown! And there wasn't even a cup of 'steeped tea' to be had to warm us up. Steeped tea by the way is the 'new' thing to have chez Tim Horton's (a cross between a healthy McDonalds and a baker's). In essence it's tea that has been left in the pot for too long but presumably is being sold in litres to holidaying Brits who aren't big fans of the local, weaker tea. It should however have included in the price some sort of dental treatment to remove the high amount of tannin. Arrival on the ... read more

Hi everyone, This will be my 2nd to last blog entry (I promise:) -- i just have to figure out yet how to download some of the cool video clips I want to share with you… All the time I was traveling through the Yucatan and Mayan Riviera I was trying to pull the lyrics and melody of “THE MEXICO SONG” out of the deep recesses of my mind (the memories are all there, it’s just accessing the storage that gets tricky:) This wonderful song was written by a good friend that many of you may remember from his days playing the lounge and coffee bar circuits in the ‘Wack and other places - Mr. Gordie Ross - now residing with his lovely wife Trish in their beautiful home on Saltspring Island… Gord and Trish take ... read more

This entry may be a little boring, but wanted to let you know I've made it to the land of the nicest accent. I am working for two researchers based out of the US who are studying carbon cycling in peat bogs and fens. Bogs and Fens are simply wetlands with peat moss growing in them. The area is pretty, rolling hills with lots of black and white spruce and aspens as well as tons of ducks, deer, hawks, coyotes, fox, black bears etc... I'm attaching a few photos to show the work we're doing. We actually put a plexiglass box over squares of peat and measure the carbon dioxide balance within the box. We're just starting a new project where we are simulating drought. You can see in the pictures that we hauled in ... read more

Worlds highest Internet Cafe

Well hello there humans. I thought it would be alot longer before I was able to make a real update, but it turns out there is a pretty inexpensive internet café in a town called Courtnay which is next door to Comox. There isn't all too much to report yet. So I guess I'll go with what I've got so far. The airplane trip wasn't bad. Actually it was pretty nice. It was clear skies for most of the flight. So I could see most of the ground from the airplane. Those things sure do fly high. Once I landed I got off the plane and grabbed my bag. Once I did that I immediately regretted packing so much stuff. Hopefully once I eat all my food it'll be a bit lighter. I'm not sure what's ... read more

Niagra, unlike Viagra did live up to its reputation indeed !!! A delightful and beautiful spectacle of nature on display awaits you if you decide to take the trip. I was in New york and took the short flight trip to Niagra. Flight leaves you in Baffalo the biggest city near the Canadian border. From Baffalo a short half hour drive to Niagra city. The falls is the down pour of Niagra river which runs between two large lakes. The river forms the natual boundary between USA and Canada. The falls is interrupted by an island of land called Goat island which lies on the American side. So we Two different falls - American falls and the Canadian falls. Both are spectacular to look at.
