This is the very first blog I have ever created and well it feels very foreign to me. Within the next several weeks I will embark on a new journey and experience things that I have never before. Currently I am squatting at one of my closest friends apartment (thank you Brittany!!!) in Saskatoon preparing for my flight to Entebbe, Uganda. I guess the theme of this summer will be 'wanderlust'- the desire to wander or explore the world, yes it sounds cheesy but spending a month in a foreign country is definitely out of the norm for me. So there will be a lot of learning occurring these next couple of months. One is using a new forum, two learning about a new language and culture, three new job when I get back from this ... read more

May 10/14 Up early courtesy of the alarm - aka 'a parking lot full of semis'. A little slow moving due to no sleep. K took the monsters out for a walk in the tornado, then it was brunch with K's family. K's parents drove up for Mum's Day weekend at the golf course his bro works at! What a great blessing it was for us to see them. Got to meet K's bro's girlfriend (I shall call them 'Kynya') and her 4 midgets. Another blessing for us, and more than likely them as well, as we are pretty fantastic! Made my mark before leaving the restaurant of course - Went to go to the bathroom, and the only stall left is the stall where someone convienently 'forgot' to flush their mounds of tp, and other ... read more

Going home got me healthy. I like the chance to reset, it helps me clear my head so that I experience the next part of the trip with renewed energy. What I like best, is seeing my loved ones. They help me relive that best parts of all my stories/experiences. They celebrate me, which feels really good and I get to reconnect with everyone. This time I had a quick turn around, but saw all the important people, rested and got healthy from a nasty sinus infection, and got all my tasks done before getting back on a plane. I was lucky enough to have smooth flights and I got to use two seats on the 6 hour flight into Lima. I arrived safe and sound with a taxi pickup and warm welcome at the AirBnB ... read more

Boy it is difficult to choose from the 1750 photos I took this trip . Yesterday I did narrow it down to 300 hard copies which you are welcome to view any time . For now here are a few from Mandalay that I thought you might enjoy ... and get a flavour of that city and region. If you click on a photo it will enlarge to give you a better view.... read more

Winter in Saskatchewan, it's bright, hard and exhilarating. Everyday the sky changes around me, the wind rises and drops, the temperature soars and plummets. On the 15th we had wind of 120 kilometres per hour. Shingles were torn off roofs and hurled across the lake in front of me. The wind has an incredible effect on those isolated from everyone else. It takes on a persona, raises the hair on the back of your neck, and makes you continually look over your shoulder to see what is stalking you. The cabin where I am staying, was untouched by the wind, but as the windows shook in their frames, I was awed by the clouds of snow that were billowed and chased across the lake. It was an exciting and humbling birthday for me. Dinner, wine, chocolate ... read more

I have made a plan with my dear friend Jacquie to go up to her cabin and ski. The weather has cooperated. I left Foam Lake with -14 and the promise of even softer temperatures. In Saskatoon, I immersed myself in the world of school, meeting with Laurie and Chris to discuss all that I was missing. We are a team that laughs and finishes each others sentences. There is nothing during this year that has filled that niche. It was a welcome visit that reset a large part of how I think of myself. The next day, we were off to the lake. The sky was an intense blue and the air felt soft. Jacquie and I start talking and hours later we come to ourselves to realize that we have barely come up for ... read more

Jan 1st - 8th The return to Saskatchewan was easy, but the weather then changed. I love winter. I love the super bright clear skies. I love snow. I love skiing across country. I do not love -38 with a wind chill of -50. Wow was it cold. We nestled into the cabin on Fishing lake and we refused to leave. We watched movie marathons of Jurassic Park and Star Wars, and ate caramel popcorn. We stopped to look out at the panoramic view of the lake, feeling the pull to get out, move around, do something and then looked at the thermometer and went back to the movies. It was lovely, in its hibernation fashion. Then we began to brave the outdoors as dinners and visits and Ukrainian Christmas made their demands. It was the ... read more

Adventurous travel is not easy. If it were, it wouldn't be an adventure, it would be a vacation. We'd like to believe that we are adventurers and problem solvers, not vacationers. What we seek in travel is to meet people from other cultures; to develop more understanding, patience, and compassion; to better appreciate the many choices we have had in our lives; and to continually seek ways to somehow give back. Along the way, we have the privilege of seeing sights and sharing experiences that most people only dream of, as we are, after all, dreamchasers. It is exciting, it is amazing, and it is humbling, but it is not always easy. I will admit I have become complacent in the last few months - relishing for the first time in as long as I can ... read more

The ride home was long and uneventful; my arrival was marvellous. We looped around Saskatoon before landing. With the snow on the ground, and the skies clear in the night sky, Saskatoon glowed like a jewel in our prairie landscape. The crisscross pattern of residential streets glowing amber and the white of the commercial main ways painted with bits of all colours from Christmas lights was truly beautiful. I hadn't really been thinking and feeling Christmas until I arrived home. Snow covered trees, lighted houses, Christmas trees in windows, even my first Christmas carols made it all real. The best was sitting in front of the fire, drinking wine with Mom, Jacquie and Scott and sharing stories. Canadian Christmas is unrivalled for me. Coming home means reconnecting with friends and family and all the places and ... read more
