By now it was 4pm but it didn’t feel that we had been on the road for so long or travelled so far. We crossed the Niagara River twice, further adding to the climactic build up to the actual border crossing! The third crossing was on the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and I spotted a US flag next to a Canadian flag. We had made it! Hi fives all round! We didn’t have to wait that long before being officially let into the country, as opposed to the traffic banking up in the opposite direction. I had to get a stamp on my passport, as I wasn’t a US citizen so we drove up to an office to be quizzed by immigration. “So, how long are you both here for?” Dani replied, “I’m here for the weekend. ... read more

Algonquin Provincial Park Ater stopping at the Flying Saucer Diner in Niagara (well we were in North America!) we made our way to one of the wineries that the region is famous for to try the local speciality - ice wine (all in the name of culture of course!) They make it in the winter when the grapes are actually frozen and as a result is really sweet. Then it was our half way stop at a place called Bracebridge famous for their bean salad apparently. We made it to the Wolf Den hostel just outside Algonquin National Park in the afternoon where are home this time was a log cabin for the 4 of us. The place really reminded me of River Valley in NZ for those of you that did Kiwi. Was very tranquil ... read more

So I spent my last couple of days in Toronto trying to catch up with everyone and a lot of time procrastinating from doing the things that actually meant I was leaving, like packing and booking buses etc. I've actually grown quite fond of Toronto; culturally it offers an abundance of variety and has a very open and accepting feel to it. There are a lot of things that i'll miss about Toronto and I think that it is a place that I would consider living in permanent conditions in the future. The last thing I did in Toronto was my going away dinner, which was, while quite sad for me (there where no tears, give me some credit would you) a lot of fun, i was stoked that so many people made an effort to ... read more

G'day ! Well, I am in Toronto right now. I stayed here last night and I am probably going to leave tomorrow I think. I had to leave Montreal - very low on money and I couldn't find work there. I had a great time there though for a couple of weeks - Wrestling, a couple of ice hockey games, the Chili Peppers (again !), went to a theme park and hit the rollercoasters etc, and met some and hung out with friends from the hostel. Oh, and I even made it to New York for a look as well. Wooooo, pretty exhausting eh !? After Montreal, I went to Niagara Falls for a night. Unreal ! Just like a mini Las Vegas or somehing. The falls were spectacular ! I went on the famous Maid ... read more

Geoff and I are chilling out in the holiday inn on the outskirts of regina. our top priority right now is to get this blog up and running so we can share our journey with our family and friends. We've got a lot to tell you, but it will come in time! we're taking a lot of photos (i finally have a little bit of time to experiment with my new camera). we're also trying to capture the essence of the cross canada trip on the video camera, so that we can perhaps string together a mini-documentary to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime trip. ... read more

On Sept. 26th we crossed from Yarmouth, NS to Bar Harbor, Maine on the CAT ferry. It was fast but it was rough. It rides on top of the waves like a cork I think. I much preferred the nice, big, slow boat to Newfoundland. It must have been a new moon when we arrived in Bar Harbor at about 7:30 at night as it was pitch dark when we found a campground. Next day we set out to make it to Albany, New York. We decided on the Interstate Highways and encountered a lot more traffic than we are used to. We stopped to shop in Freeport, Maine at the famous LL Bean store. We carried on our merry way and were driving in the middle of the three lanes when all of a sudden ... read more

"You have to run with your own feet to some place you haven't been before---to a new place. You have to leave the world where you have everything under your control. You have to leave the world where everybody likes you. You have to head into a world where you are poor and powerless. And there---you'll be converted, despite yourself." -Richard Rohr... read more
