For the first entry in the plog we thought we'd let everyone in on the pre-planning/packing stage. We leave this Monday, the 2nd of July so it's about time we got down to the shops to purchase our don't leave home without it products like a head lamp, nylon rope, a striped v-neck, a new sweat belt (hidden money pouch) and then some more obscure items like trekking shoes, a travel purse and a lock. At this point you can probably tell who bought what... anywho, basically we're testing this baby out. ... read more

So after spending my first 7 months in the West of Canada i've finally made my way over to the East. The East is the political, businessy side of the country. Its where all the culture and old buildings are. My first stop was Toronto. Mumsy and I flew from Calgary to here- (saved a 2 day bus trip :-) We just booked one night in Toronto.. as we wanted to get down to Niagara Falls! Toronto is a really cool city... sorta reminded me of Sydney- so it had comforting feeling. Trornto is the biggest of the Canadian cities and home to the worlds tallest free standing building, so from where ever you were in the city you could see it :-). The next day we were off to Niagara... only a 2 hour ... read more

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in posting our blog, but it has been a busy and stressful and exciting time for us. We haven't taken many photos yet. SORRY!! June 27th So we have 5 days till we leave Canada….whoa!! The past year has gone by so fast. LOL. It seems like there is so much to do right before you leave and we have to make sure that we meet up with everyone before we leave, so the last two weeks have been so busy. Dinners, poker and more dinners….I even won $30 from Stephen and he has a whole year of knowing that…LOL. I have been busy ripping dvd’s and completing any other computer, financial tasks while Brandi has been busy packing. Hopefully we don’t forget to do something. Both Brandi and I ... read more

Arrived in Toronto at the end of Pride Week, just in time for the Pride Parade, a huge event here lasting over 3 hours and watched by over a million spectators. Toronto is clearly very down with the gays, as every organisation in the city seemed to have a float in the parade, from hairdressers to major corporations like IBM, as well as government departments. The next day in the papers there were even photos of the Lord Mayor dancing in the street while being hosed down by paraders with water pistols. Something Jim Rodgers could take note of for August perhaps?? We have had a ball in Toronto - our hostel (Get us, in a hostel! But admittedly in a private room with a huge flat screen tv and dvd player) is right by ... read more

The rest of Tuesday was spent wandering Ann Arbor, seeing some interesting shops and art galleries. I bought a camping fuel can and now use it as a backup for Gretchen in case she runs out of gas. Alex, Christine's friend, asked the guy at Moosejaw why they had little bumper stickers saying "I'm moving back in with my Mom" and he launched into this whole story about how their company motto was "Mad About It" and how that's the way they live their lives. It was kinda funny that he'd use that as an explanation, but also kinda awesome that there's a company whose policy states "you must be cool". The Ann Arbor Art Center had an exhibit by a local, Margaret Parker, who used T-shirts as her medium. They were all cut up into ... read more

Toronto Pearson International Airport The trip definitely started off dramatically since I almost missed my plane. Apparently, the travel agent failed to ‘register’ my ticket number back in January so my name wasn’t on the guest list. What made it worse was that I was put on a waiting list and I wouldn’t know if I could board the plane until at least an hour before departure. That’s not it, when I called the travel agent for help, they put me on hold for more than an hour and when it finally got through, they were arguing with British Airways. Needless to say, I was not impressed. 6 15 pm - I’m still listening to the fight between British Airways and Cheap Tickets. God knows what they were saying but, at the time, I just wanted ... read more

Hi all! So i went to my first scream fest tonight. The Much Music Video Awards 2007 where the biggest names of the show were Fergie, Hilary Duff and Avril Lavigne.. well the biggest names that you would know of anyways. Its was kinda gay and we left about 30 mins after it had started as we were at the pop stage & didnt realise the rock stage was down the road... so left. It was on TV anyways live so it seemed better to do that. But i am glad to say that i survived all the screamin 13 to 16 year olds. I felt so old there. Its all kinda a sad event because one of my mate, Tom, is leaving to go back to England. But all is well & I shall ... read more

Note: The Canada blogs have been rewritten and reposted due to requests for anonymity. Hush yo mouf As our vacation winds down, you’ll notice that we are spending more time relaxing and less time exploring. Some will call it traveler’s fatigue. I call it conserving energy for residency. Meli’s aunt kicks off brekkie by making us grilled cheese sandwiches, then prosciutto and cheese panini. Knowing that we have a long day and night ahead of us, I cross the street for dried mango and Red Bull. In all out Pinay fashion, Meli’s aunt keeps the food coming, topping brekkie with tortellini al panna for lunch with white wine and Canadian Ice Wine (a digestif). Meli chooses to sleep for most of the day as jet lag is working her like a part time job. I pass ... read more

Hello all once again.. Firstly I will start by hoping that one & all are well and enjoying life as much as I am at the moment. And now to the topic of conversation... My mummy & daddy came to see me!!!!! YAY!!!! M&D arrived on 21 May in Vancouver so I flew over to see them. Half way through the flight I just started balling my eyes out I was so excited. Not to mention when I actually saw them. It was so nice to have them there with me so I could show them the country I have been spending most of my time in. After the debacle fo actually finding each other in the airport (mother was a little worried at how far away I was coz she thought it was like ... read more
