Greg Well here we are in Toronto. The biggest city in Canada. We were going to go to the CN Tower and have dinner, but we thought we would get dogs and a house instead. I just know the food there would have been mediocre (how could it compare to Le Regalade?) and let's face it....a bird's eye view of Toronto? Oh yeah....wow. We went to Niagara Falls yesterday. 150 K away. Three hour drive. Three hours. At times the traffic would come to a complete stop. An accident? An Asteroid hitting the highway? A crazed old man rapping on car windows asking for pennies? Nope. Nothing. Nada. It's seems that the actual curves in the road, in this massive highway system is enough to scare the drivers. That's all I can come up with. There ... read more

Well today was the morning after, and there were a lot of sore heads and red eyes as a large number of the wedding party assembled for brunch, in the hotel bar\restaurant. I missed breakfast, but that turned out to be a fantastic investment when I saw what was on offer for brunch. I would have almost advised those too sick to eat anything, not to have drunk so much, so they wouldn't have to forgoe such a feast. After brunch my brawn was enlisted to carry decorations from the reception hall, to cars going back to Tilsonburg. You can imagine how much help I was as the fouth member of a team of Australia Army guys. The bride's parents were hosting a 'post wedding bbq\party' a their house in Tilsonburg, so that's where everyone headed, ... read more

Joey: Grand Rapid's is a amazing place. It's a nice town, with a lot of stuff to do. They have some Tennis courts, some Bowling alleys (That are packed 24/7), lot's of restaurants, and friendly people! Also, they have a gigantic 2 story mall! We visited, maybe, 1 quarter of a section of the mall on one side of the 4 way intersection. That's big. The Best Western that we stayed at was really cool! We had a nice room, with a TV, microwave, vault, a nice clean bathroom, everything! It was pretty cool. The hotel even had an inside pool and hot tub, and, even... an ARCADE!!!!!!!!!! BINGO!!!!!!!! But, we only stayed there to see the dogs. You see, we want to see some Native American Indian Dogs, because their supposed to be hypoallergenic. ... read more

DAY 7/240 - Friday, July 20, 2007 Today we left the tour group we were with, a day early and went from washington to Woodstock for the wedding tomorrow. However we got up much much earlier than we needed to and ended up having to wait 3 hours for the flight (in fairness to whoever decided the time to leave, we didn't really know how long it was going to take to get to the airport). So i think that the fact that we had to wait for so long made us all a little frustrated, but i spent the wait working on a spreadsheet that would be used to judge the winner of the Frodo Photo competition. Took me those 3 hours, the one hour plane flight, the 90 min hire car ride (with michelle ... read more

It's officially 3 months before I head off to Egypt on a family vacation in October. I'll have lots of planning and prep to do beforehand. The rough itinerary includes: Day 1: Toronto to London. Overnight somewhere in the London vicinity, possibly Windsor since it was such a nice place to visit in the spring. Day 2: London to Cairo. Our flight leaves in the evening which means we will have almost 2 full days in England before we arrive in Cairo at night to check into our hotel, The Oasis in Giza. Day 3: Cairo. Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, Coptic Cairo, Pyramids and Sphinx, Khan el Khalili Bazaar. Day 4: Cairo to Aswan. Visit ruins at Memphis, necropolis of Sakkara, Step pyramid of Zoser. 45 minute flight to Aswan and overnight in Aswan (thereby skipping ... read more

The startNathalie Vallee Today is the actual start of this weird trip thingy. I found out yesterday that my departure date for Burkina Faso is on Semptember 16th. It is getting close. It's also getting real. For those of you who might not know, I was suposed to leave at the beginning of June for a placement in Sri Lanka with WUSC (World University Services of Canada). This co-op opportunity was cancelled 3 weeks before the departure by the University for safety reasons. I would have gone personally. But apparently there is something out there, a little Je-ne-sais-quoi, who wanted me to go to Burkina Faso. This whole " I'm supposed to go to Burkina Faso" thing started long before the cancellation of my placement in Sri Lanka. Here is the short story. During my first ... read more

Today, at 15mph, we ascended the CN tower for amazing views of Toronto. There seems to be little more to the city than attractive buildings and so a 330m high view of these was impressive. Whilst the others queued for an hour and twenty minutes for the lift to the ‘Sky Pod’ the uppermost viewing point, Rob, Al and I had a wander around, taking in the city hall, a few shops and a lot of sky-scrapers. As part of my fast food quest, I went to Harvey’s and had a root beer which, in Al’s words, tasted like cough medicine. I didn’t mind it, although I don’t think I’ll bother with it again. It resembles ginger beer but not as nice. I cancelled my order for a burger, having already had a hotdog for lunch, ... read more

It's wonderful to be somewhere hot and humid again. I'm sure I'll come to hate it, but I associate humidity with holidays so sweating like a pig gets me excited. Aside from this, arriving in Toronto felt much like England with unfriendly immigration and customs staff and baggage delays. After a brief chat to an Indian man, a nationality who are always pleasing to talk to because with a little prompting they will tell you their whole life story and that of most of their extended family, Rob rolled up in a monster truck and drove me back to the motel. My first impression of Toronto was not a great one. Its further flung suburbs seem to consist overwhelmingly of tatty apartment blocks interspersed with expanses of half dead grass and little else. Arriving at the ... read more
