We just got back last night from our latest road trip. There were eight of us; Four Australians (Tim, Jim, Ged and myself), one Egyptian (Melina), one French (Sophie), one Kiwi (Chris) and one Brit (Hazel). We got in a rented eight seater minivan and headed for the border at about 4pm on Friday arvo. It was a long drive, big props to Ged who drove both ways. We got to Buffalo (New York State, near the border) around 10:30pm. It was really really windy. We went to a pub in the middle of town for dinner. Three of use were underage, but the Buffalo bartender didn't seem to mind. We got Buffalo wings and awful awful American beer. If they can put a man on the moon, surely they can brew a beer that doesn't ... read more

These are not foreign if you travel to Asia, tropical weather countries, but here in Canada, you are able to find them too, as fresh as they can get... Walking around the Chinatown areas in Toronto, one of the largest in North America brings back memories of wandering in far flung lands. There were quite a few selections of tropical fruits that you can purchase and more asian restaurants that you can feed your hungry stomach. The importation of tropical-fresh fruits into Canada seems easier than its southern country, the United States, evidently there are more availability of these fruits in ethnic asian supermarkets here. ... read more

What an amazing city! After the longest train ride in the history of the universe from New York City, we arrived in Toronto after 11:00 p.m. - a bit later than planned! The ride was absolutely beautiful in places, especially going through the northern parts of New York State and Niagara Falls, but there were several unplanned stops and starts and we were exhausted by the time we got in, having stayed up all night chatting with our friend Chris in New York before having to catch the train in the morning. Got up the next morning around 11:00 after a good night's sleep! My mom and step-dad were down at Kensington Market and we went down around noon to get some breakfast/lunch. We walked a couple blocks down Yonge Street, past lots of cute little ... read more

For most US citizens, going to Canada is no big deal. When it comes to people like us, it assumes slightly less ordinary proportions. We have to obtain a visa for starters. As Sanjit left for a business-trip to India, I decided to go on a little vacation of my own. Canada seemed an inviting prospect - not too far and I have family there. So finally, I found myself on a tiny aircraft (yeah what’s with that, if American Airlines is reading this - get over stupid tiny aircrafts which seem like capsules and with no food - ok that’s got nothing to do with the size of aircraft , just venting !!) browsing through Angelina jolie’s eyes and scarlett’s pout in trashy magazines. I landed at Toronto and headed straight for downtown. At first ... read more

Hello all, I am getting ready to travel to India for the second time. This time a short trip, to North India only -- 3 1/2 weeks in Delhi, Rishikesh and Puskhar for the world-famous Pushkar Camel Fair. In Delhi I will be celebrating Diwali and attending a really big Hindu wedding with Ajay and his family. In Rishikesh, I will be visiting my yoga teacher, Yogi Vishvketu, and seeing his brand-new ashram. I will be leaving on November 4 and returning home on November 28, after a very short stop in Amsterdam. So, leaving in about three weeks. It's a lot different than last time I left for India, almost two years ago -- so much less planning and excitement. This time, all I've done is buy the air ticket and send for the VISA. ... read more

Toronto, Canada. Population 2.9 million, Polution level: Pretty dam high. Lakeside Beaches: Pretty gross and you'd be pretty game to swim in them! Just a quick update here, I'm in Toronto and heading out to Newfoundland the most easterly part of Canada. As my stupid camera card is now not working I can't upload the awesome photos I had of the CN Tower (tallest tower in the world and one of the 7 modern wonders of the world). Lights up at night and looks spectacular! If I actually fix my camera card which is looking very unlikely I will upload some images but otherwise I'm sure you all know how to google it! So anyway, my time in Toronto wasn't too interesting. I had dinner in the CN Tower and went on a boatride around ... read more

I have officially completed "The Melbourne Marathon", Keating Educational Tours' longest tour ever. The group came all the way from Melbourne, Australia. 12 days, 5 Canadian cities, 16 boys, 4 chaperones and me running the whole show! My Aussies boys are somewhere in the plane headed back across the Pacific now. I am exhausted. My body feels completely drained. I feel drugged I'm so drowsy! I look forward to sleeping in my own bed here in Toronto. Now it really feels like I'm living here - because I've been away and have returned home. But what an incredible tour this has been . . . A little about the group. The head teacher (Claire) is originally from Ottawa, but married an Australian man and they've been back in Australia for the last 2 years. She and ... read more

So this entry is a bit delayed, I left until the very last minute, and by very last minute I mean that my cab to the airport is coming in an hour and a half! At 5:30pm I will be on my way to Ghana for the next ten months. The very popular question is "Has it hit you yet?" and my response as of yesterday was yes! Hardly seems real that what I have been waiting for since I came to UofT is now upon me. I am excited, but also a bit nervous and scared about all the unknown factors that are a part of this trip. The last couple of times I wrote, I didn't have a lot of details about what I will be doing in Ghana, so I thought I would ... read more
