TORONTO!!!!!! So this was Christian's official second trip to Toronto, and my 1st. We had the good fortune of staying with a friend, Dan :) What a good host he was too!! And the view...I tell you it was priceless! I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay while in T. And, we just happend to arrive on Thanksgiving to stay with non other then a cook! What a brillant idea...Now who thought of that one...? We had stuffed turkey, scalloped potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, glazed carrots, home made biscuits and gravy (well some of us got to try everything, others only a selection...not to mention any names...) So...2 hours and 9 pounds later everyone is sufficiently sufficed, to say the least! It was delicious! Easily one of the best Turkey dinners ever (if ... read more

Hello, and welcome to my new blog. This is the new spot to come along with us on our Awesome Asian Adventure, which will begin on Oct 27. In Sept we were fortunate enough to visit with John's family in Sydney, NS and with our son Andrew in Toronto. The time in Sydney was spent bonding with family and eating, mostly eating!!! Put on a pound or two, which promptly came off once we reached Toronto, and Andrew and Secil walked the legs off of us. This was our first trip to Toronto, and was quite the experience. We spent a lot of time around Toronto University area and Kennsington Market area. One day we took the bus and went to Niagra Falls. It was sunny when we left Toronto, but by the time we got to ... read more

Tuesday 12 October Day 3 Quebec City to Montreal 190miles.   Randall and Teresa's Anniversary The bed last night was like sleeping on a plank of wood it was so hard. This hotel so far is probably my least favorite over the past few weeks. The weather has been cold but not as cold as I expected. A jacket has been necessary but when the sun shines it's lovely, it's just a shame that's not too often.  Keara and I found some flowers at the supermarket the night before, so I wandered over there at 630am in 2 degrees. I was devastated when I read the door they didn't open until 0800h across to a fast-food chain Tim Hortons and ordered what I thought were Iced Coffees, but once again received a different version. This time ... read more

Wednesday 13 October Day 4 Montreal to Toronto via Ottawa 403 miles 648km Another long day today in front of us, we detour via Ottawa to our destination of Toronto. The hotel coffee shops was so slow, 25 minutes for another weird iced late this time.  The colours of the foliage never cease to amaze me here. The drive to Ottawa was pleasant. Keara and irena once again slept the majority of the way. We meandered through leafy areas into the main centre of Ottawa  which is made up of a combination of functioning but very old and majestic buildings as well as a huge array of museums, public art and galleries. It's a very scenic city and henk gave us a few opportunities to "make beautiful photos" as he says. A quick stop to the ... read more

This may be a bit of a shorter blog than usual. Craig and I went out last night and had a fantastic time, but are paying for it today! The Blackhawks were playing last night and as we didn’t have a TV in our hostel room, we decided to go out to a bar to watch the ice hockey. We decided to go to Wayne Gretzky’s restaurant, Wayne Gretzky being the most famous and most talented ice hockey player that has ever played. It was a good thing we decided to go there - Wayne Gretzky’s father was there having dinner, and Craig got to have a chat to him and get a photo! I invited one of my friends from my 2004 Contiki tour around Europe to come along. Cesar’s from Mexico but has been ... read more

After leaving sunny Saskatoon, I was once again back in not so sunny Toronto. Thankfully the weather cleared up for most of my stay so I was fortunate enough to walk out to the outer suburbs for some sightseeing. The destination on the top of my list was Casa Loma (a 4.5 kilometre walk from the hostel). Constructed over a three-year period, Casa Loma was originally a residence for financier Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. The “Hill House” has been featured in a number of movies and TV shows - X-Men, Chicago, The Tuxedo, and Scott Pilgrim etc. A film crew was actually present during my visit so a couple of rooms were unfortunately closed off to the public. im... read more

Drove to TO in our rented minivan in driving rain. Arrived about 8 pm. While checking in to our hotel (Sheraton Four Points) we met our pilot Al, flight engineer Matt, and cabin crew Susan and Leah. They had arrived just before us on board our plane, which had flown in from Kelowna. Nice friendly bunch. After checking in, Robert and I returned the van to the airport and took a shuttle back  Hotel was decent and we had a good night's sleep. ... read more

Sorry we haven't written an entry in a while, for the few of you that are intently watching for any news! It is hard to find good opportunities to write long, worthwhile entries. A lot has happened since the last one. We spent two more days in Owen Sound. Jon took us to the local waterfall which was beautiful, and only a ten minute walk away. We also ended up playing a few songs in a local cafe spontaneously, and had a generous round of applause and ended up with our photo on Facebook by the local Owen Sound music blogger that Jon had a meeting with. The music side of things also made progress. We recorded some overlapping melodies on some First Rate People tracks for Jon, and He and Edd helped by harmonising on ... read more
