An early start for Heathrow. I always hate this part of the trip as you have to get down the M23 and along the M25 Purple parking were once more excellent and delivered us to terminal 3 at 8,30am. A small problem when the handle broke on Pams suitcase. Seemed okay to be checked in though and we successfully moved our seats to the centre isle. Best place on a boeing 777. A breakfast at TGIs and then a one hour wait before the flight was called. Delayed leaving the gate by 30 minutes but then an uneventful flight of 7.5 hours. Took ages to get through customs and imigration at Toronto and there is always one over weight Brit who will lose it! Tour rep was waiting and we were soon off to our hotel. ... read more

Well we have only 1 week to go and everyone seems to be getting excited... The packing and last minute shopping is well underway, knowing full well that we will forget something. Some issues that we have encountered for anyone who is looking to go to Africa, our passports (visas) took 4 weeks to the day to return. You have to send your passports to the embassies in Ottawa to get your visas - it was very worry some to wait for them to come back. The other issue was currency. We were successful in getting Kenya Shillings, but no real luck in getting the Tanzania Shillings, yet some of our group did get it.. So we are bringing some extra US just in case. One of our restrictions is that we can only bring 15kg ... read more

We had a 7:30am flight to Toronto with Air Canada so we were up bright and early. At least we could just drive to the airport and not have to worry about cabs. I manage to successfully navigate our way to the airport and then it’s a short one and a quarter hour flight. The Air Canada flight crew are once again really nice and we’ve enjoyed flying with them. We catch a cab to our hotel, the Fairmont Royal York. It’s in the same chain as the hotel at Lake Louise so I’m already prepared for Tim to not like it. It’s one of the oldest hotels in Toronto and directly opposite the railway station, and it’s also on the stop line for Greyhound buses. This is the main reason I picked this hotel to ... read more

I leave in exactly 13 days and I can’t wait. I’m starting to go stir crazy in Toronto and this adventure is exactly what I need to shake things up a bit. I’ll be extremely busy this week. One of my fellow travelers is getting married and I can’t wait to help her celebrate this very special milestone in her life. She will be joining us in London the day after we arrive to wrap up some school stuff at the University of London. We are back to the drawing boards on Tuesday planning out our stay in London and booking our train tickets from Marrakech to Fez and our hotel room in Fez. We have been using a shared Google Doc to plan this trip and it has been a great resource to help us ... read more

“One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time” André Paul Guillaume Gide After an amazing trip to New York in March I am finally hitting the dusty trail again and spending two weeks travelling to London, England and to Marrakech and Fez in Morocco. This will be a first time visit to the United Kingdom and Morocco and I am really looking forward to exploring the cities. I am taking this trip with two very dear friends and am can’t wait to share this adventure with them. We booked our tickets to London offline, taking the no frills approach to international flying with Air Transat booked for us via Flight Center. To their credit, the price they got us on our tickets was better than ... read more

So Team Ted is still in the off-season, and we have been taking full advantage being unemployed. The weather has been amazing so we have been thoroughly spoilt, and we have been making the most of this awesome city. Tell you what, the ol' Torontonians love a festival! Any excuse for a party...not that we are complaining! There is always something going on somewhere, and best of all they are usually FREE (except for the hideously over-priced food and drinks of course). In the past couple of weeks alone we have experienced: - WOOFSTOCK - "The Largest Festival For Dogs in North America". No, we are not dogs nor do we have one but we had a brilliant time patting everyone else's doggies. You have never seen so many dogs in one place at one time! ... read more

Wednesday, July 14th In the vein of continuing to bust our budget today we booked onto a Niagara tour. The day started badly with our transfer claiming he was 'outside your building' when he wasn't. Why do they do that? He got there half an hour late. We took a large bus to Niagara which was a couple of hours away. As we arrived, my God was it touristy. Niagara can be seen from the road and thousands were gathered with their cameras. Our tour included the little boat trip so we joined the queue for that, lucky enough to get right through. Just before the boat we were handed bright blue plastic ponchos, miles too big for anyone un-American. We must have looked like Asians in a European (blueberry) condom. The boat was rammed but ... read more
