Day 8: Cleveland, Ohio; Pennsylvania; Niagara Falls; to Toronto, Ontario, Canada Well I would like to start off tonight's blog by saying: We ARE alright! When you get to the middle of our day, remember, We ARE alright....okay? (Caitlin and Tami, et al, you are not to worry.) We had a small vacation to-do list today, but many miles to cover before we slept: 1. Wake up at a reasonable time so we could spend a few precious minutes revisiting AMP 150 for breakfast...YUM! 2. Go to the Cleveland Natural History Museum to visit the remains of Lucy- a failed line in the development of man but a small upright prototype of our ancestors. When Lucy was discovered, the anthropologists made a deal that they could send here bones back to Cleveland for radio carbon testing ... read more

We have finally arrived at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto, the hotel is great! and by great i mean immense compared to any hotel we have ever stayed in! the lobby itself looked like it was paved with gold and the walls were plastered with at least 7 12x8ft widescreen tv's (just for a fancy effect when u walk near them!) The flight wasnt too bad in itself aside from one person needing to be taken by ambulance upon arrival. the food was acceptable (for a guy with no taste buds) but candy seemed to hate it very much and the service was excellent! we can see the CN tower from our hotel room, there should be a pic somewhere on this page of the view of it :). the hotel has its own shopping ... read more

Well, the day has finally come. After months of planning, and chatting, and medicating, I am leaving for Tanzania. I managed to pack everything (I hope) in my trusty backpack, and if things go according to plan, I will be able to carry it. I am nervous and excited and anxious... all things that I believe to be normal for an adventure like this. From Toronto, I go to Amsterdam, and then directly to Kilimanjaro Airport, where the volunteer coordinators will meet me (maybe on an elephant!). And from there my journey begins! I will try to update and post pictures as often as possible! Keep in touch, and don't miss me too much!! xoxo Erin ... read more

After months of anticipation I finally went away on my long-awaited vacation. Now that I am back, I am a little wiser, a little stronger, and a little lighter thanks to a stomach bug I acquired right before flying back. My trip was amazing. The world is a beautiful place and I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore it. Traveling from the narrow streets of London to the alleys of a Moroccan Medina is an eye-opening experience. Although I tried to plan for everything on this trip, the one thing I did not anticipate was all the lessons I would learn. For example, there is a reason they tell you to mind the gap in London’s tube station and a 20 kilo suitcase allowance is cool until you are forced to lug a 20 kilo suitcase ... read more

Toronto's glorious summer continues for Team Ted. Still can't believe we didn't come to this awesome country YEARS ago! But having the time of our lives here right now... Highlights of the past few weeks include: - Toronto Pride Festival - Soooooooo much fun! The Toronto "Gaybourhood" (Church & Wellesley Village) is right near us so we just strolled down to join in the festivities. On the Saturday we went along to watch our landlady do a dance demonstration with her fitness group, and RD decided to join in and make a fool of herself (nothing unusual there). We then spent the rest of the day wandering about enjoying the masses of stalls, performances and sensational costumes. Such a fun, relaxed vibe and very inclusive, a definite highlight of our entire time here in T'r... read more

Toronto consistently appears in Mercer's Annual Top 20 (out of 221) Cities for the best quality of living in the world. This year it was 16th and as we drove back from the Airport with John, our very good travelling buddy who met us at arrivals, we began to see why. Toronto is a lovely clean and well organised City. It has great beaches, bordering a wonderful Lake (Ontario), with miles of boardwalk and bicycle paths and its pretty safe too. For "Foodies" like Felicity and I, and our hosts John and his wonderful Costa Rican wife Alex, it is also a perfect City. You can get good versions of most food types you care to imagine - and some you maybe would rather not. More on that later. We'd met John & Alex about 4 ... read more

Its so difficult to sleep when you are jet lagged but somehow a fitful night was spent until our early morning alarm call at 6.30 We walked next door from the hotel and had a typical Canadian breakfast big enough for 4 people and costing 20 dollars (about £13) Then on to the coach and off for a brief city tour. Toronto is a very beautiful and laid out in the grid system like New York. It is dominated by the shore line of lake Ontario. Soon we were on our way out of the city and making our way towards Niagra. John our guide is highly knowledgable and nothing is too much trouble for him. As we approached the falls the weather cleared and it became very hot. We had no choice but to ride ... read more
