Friday 15th October Niagara Falls to Hanover.... Gettysburg Today was our earliest start. This was so we could get to the border before any other tour buses did. Apparently you can wait for hours at the US border going through immigration, fortunately our experience was a nice quick one, Henk our tour guide knows his stuff because as we left there were 7 buses behind us. Our first stop today was at a "small" roadhouse. Well Sam said it was small. Well I think that any roadhouse that you hear over the loudspeaker "driver 2734, shower 18 is ready" is not really that small. This stop had a shop that sold everything from your normal goods, to tv's and even wrangler jeans. I do have to say though, it was the Worst ever iced coffee, I ... read more

Tuesday 12 October Day 3 Quebec City to Montreal 190miles.   Randall and Teresa's Anniversary The bed last night was like sleeping on a plank of wood it was so hard. This hotel so far is probably my least favorite over the past few weeks. The weather has been cold but not as cold as I expected. A jacket has been necessary but when the sun shines it's lovely, it's just a shame that's not too often.  Keara and I found some flowers at the supermarket the night before, so I wandered over there at 630am in 2 degrees. I was devastated when I read the door they didn't open until 0800h across to a fast-food chain Tim Hortons and ordered what I thought were Iced Coffees, but once again received a different version. This time ... read more

Thursday 14th October Toronto to Niagara Falls We awoke to crappy weather today. It was cold and raining. We were to do a walking tour but because of the weather Henk being the resourceful guide that he is, took us underground and showed us city hall and an interesting mural made in relief with thousands of nails. We jumped on the bus and made our way to the CN Tower, a massive structure that seemed to breach the low clouds. This was an optional tour that the five of us decided to take, I'm glad we did because even though the weather wasn't the best the view was fantastic. Looking out over the sprawling city of Toronto and Lake Ontario. It was cold and windy but enjoyable. From Toronto we took the relatively short bus ride ... read more

Wednesday 13 October Day 4 Montreal to Toronto via Ottawa 403 miles 648km Another long day today in front of us, we detour via Ottawa to our destination of Toronto. The hotel coffee shops was so slow, 25 minutes for another weird iced late this time.  The colours of the foliage never cease to amaze me here. The drive to Ottawa was pleasant. Keara and irena once again slept the majority of the way. We meandered through leafy areas into the main centre of Ottawa  which is made up of a combination of functioning but very old and majestic buildings as well as a huge array of museums, public art and galleries. It's a very scenic city and henk gave us a few opportunities to "make beautiful photos" as he says. A quick stop to the ... read more

Monday 11 October Day 2 Boston to Quebec City 450miles No need to mention it was an early start. This being our first organized tour we need to get In to the habit of the 6am early morning wake up calls luggage out the front of the room at 645am. It was to be a long day on the road.  We made a pit stop at a supermarket, it was the most normal looking suoermarket I had seen in the whole trip so far. We bought some snacks for the bus for a few days and again were on our way. Henk informs us of the overnight news as well as the upcoming temperatures and other facts and figures that are relevant in the areas traveling through. The countryside just North of Boston was similar to ... read more

Sunday 10 October Day 1 New York to Boston approximate 580km 360 miles  I'm getting a little over these early starts. Checked out at the affina 50 at 630am for an double uneventful taxi ride to the  Sheraton New York the venue for our departure. This hotel at $500 a night looked like a great hotel but with another grumpy and inconsistent Starbucks.  We met our tour host, a friendly Dutch guy by the name of Henk. The bus is somewhat comfortable and we were lucky enough to start the tour at the back ofnthe bus with 4 double seats between the 5 of us. We went through a relatively traffic free suburb of Harlem  as our journey headed North. The trip was a pretty drive. Through hilly country and well vegetated with pockets of ... read more

Thursday 7 October R writes: another early start in Las Vegas before our 5 hour flight to   New York. The shuffle and weighing of bags at the Bellagio paid off as our luggage was all within 2 pounds of each other. It was great to catch up with Robert and Alicia Campbell at the airport. you travel half way around the world and end up on the same flight as a team mate. I set about making a cool $300k on the departure lounge pokies, but it didn't eventuate, I was sure I would win. Anyway after a long boring flight, Teresa and I played Yahtzee and the rest of the girls shored their way through 4 and a half hours, we arrived in the Big Apple. we strained our necks like a real bunch ... read more
