Today was a rather relaxed day, we went and did some souvenir shopping and then headed off to Capilano Bridge for a few hours of wandering around there. A lot of the pictures from the day revolve around that. After we got done at Capilano we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for Angie so she could get a guitar pin for her collection. I then went in search of Poutine, for those of you unfamiliar with this dish it is Crispy Fries topped with Cheese Curds and then drowned in brown gravy. I had heard of this place called Mean Poutine while I was up there and went off in search of it. I found it and I was not disappointed and it made for a great lunch. Jennifer and I each tried a different ... read more

Ok so yesterday I fell asleep writing this, we arrived to Vancouver after getting up at 0600 again to grab the train from Seattle. After getting off the train and clearing customs which was an interesting conversation as our party looked a bit like the Beverly Hillbillies with 5 bags for 3 people. Border Control was really interested in why so much luggage for 3 days in country, after explaining to him what we were doing we went along on our way. Grabbed a cab out in front of the station...they don't believe in Uber here in Canada so much and off we went to go grab our Rental Car. Picked up the rental car and we were starving as we hadn't eaten since the night before, so right across from Enterprise we found a Costco...Alright ... read more

Highlights of our 8 Weeks in Canada and Alaska – 13 August to 7 September 2016 As with every time we travel I try to wrap up our experiences and activities after we visit another stunning country. However, there is always a risk of understating what we have seen or done. The following is an attempt to do so, with contributions from Tom & Sheryl, my incredible traveling partners. We have thoroughly enjoyed our 8 weeks and I have thoroughly enjoyed travelling with them both. I hope they have tolerated my over-enthusiastic planning and “I have an idea’’ statement they heard frequently lol!! Here goes the list · Beautiful, flower-covered Victoria and the Fairmont Hotel on Vancouver Island · Mountains and glaciers along the Inside Passage · Not being cold on the cruise ship o Alaska ... read more

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 Day 7: Vancouver, British Columbia - This Bridge is making me dizzy! Today, my sister, Renata and I decided to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. The Capilano Suspension Bridge is a 140 meter long suspension bridge that crosses the Capilano River. Definitely, not for those afraid of heights! When we first arrived at Capilano we were greeting by a large collection of totem poles including a longhouse and a welcome totem pole. We learned about its unique history by taking a history tour. Did you know that Capilano is the anglicized name of Kai’palano, which means “beautiful river”? Kia’palano, was also the name of a great Squamish Chief who lived in the area during the early 1800s. After the history tour it was time to cross the bridge. As the bridge ... read more

Monday, August 8th, 2016 Day 6: Vancouver, British Columbia - It's time to Grind! Today we are off to burn off the calories from the two days of stuffing ourselves with food from the wedding and the family picnic. We are going to attempt the Grouse Grind! The Grouse Grind is “Nature’s version” of the stair master. With a length of 2.9 kilometers, an elevation gain of 853 metres, and a total of 2, 830 stairs, this trail is a challenge in itself. It was an exhausting hike and at times I thought it would never end. When we finally reached the finish line we were rewarded with an incredible view of Vancouver from the top of Grouse Mountain. After grabbing a quick bite to eat we headed off to explore. We first came across a ... read more

... read more

Being a round the world traveler does tend to make one shameless after a while. When Lindsey's aunt suggested that she had a friend in Vancouver we had no compunction in asking if we could stay. We were extremely grateful when Jill and Frank agreed to put us up. We turned up on their doorstep running very late and struggling under the weight of our bags. They showed us to our lovely room and we dropped the bags and went straight to food. This was certainly a little taste of heaven after our busy and frustrating day. We then whiled the evening away chatting about travels and life and generally getting to know each other. Next morning we joined Frank and Jill at church. We had no idea what to expect because North American churches have ... read more
