Thursday was a day of contrasts we started in one of the wettest places in Dubia nad ended the day in the driest. The moring saw us in the Wild Wadi Water Park. Themed around Sinbad and Juha a mythical traveller. Both travelling across the seas and engulfed by a storm, survived and stranded in a beatiful lagoon. It is the most advanced technological water park in the world and has the tallest free fall slide outside of America. the Jumeriah Screamer and did I scream as I plunged 27 M hitting a top speed of 80K. I got to the bottom and couldn't move partially due to the fact that the seat of my costume had been forced between my buttocks and there was a great queue of people standing watching me lying there. in Dubia, following an uneventful flight. In fact I was not entirely impressed with Emerates Airways at all. Spent the longest 7 hours in the smallest seat it was so small there was no room to put the arm of the seat up as seats where so close to each other. Food fine , wine horrible I poured mine back into the bottle and gave it back - Chardonnay uggh. Time to have a sleep and as we where 11 rows from the front the light from the service area was shining into my eyes. I asked for an eye mask - they had none on board. I tried to slide down into the seat to avid light but they had a bulge- lumbar support and that pressed into my thoracic spine and became numb from ... read more

Had a very busy Wednesday. Firstly I had to decide where we wanted to lie on the beach. Got beach attendant to place bed so I could view the Burj when I turned my head to the right. Then I had to get the beach attendant to place towels on bed and strategically place towel to support back of head. Beach attendant brought us fruit skewers, came and cleaned our sunglasses, provided cold vanilla scented towles to keep us cool and sprayed our faces with Evian water. Then we went for a walk up the beach for a closer look at the Burj Al Arab. Came back and more friut skewers, sunglasses cleaning , spraying of face with Evian water and cold vanilla scented towels. Then I went for a swim in the pool looked over ... read more

How hot - in case your wondering - it's very hot, I'm not sure I’m going to actually write about Dubai as I might let the pictures do the talking about our favourite parts... Oh why not, when we arrived we didn't know where we were going to go so we jumped in a taxi and asked for a "cheap" hotel downtown, ha ha, as if there is such a thing as a cheap hotel in Dubai - so where do we end up - in a hotel/brothel, mmmmmmmmmm not exactly what I had in mind so the next morning we checked out and found some where without the assistance of a taxi driver... Our next hotel, which did not rent rooms out by the hour, did however have shuttle buses to the beach and to ... read more

Arrived at Manchester airport. Just. As I organised the holiday I left Paul to get us to the airport. We arranged for my mum to get us to the coach station however when we arrived at her house she was looking after my nephew who was off school ill, so she arranged for a neighbour to get us there. Arrived at the station and Paul had the coach tickets only they where booked for Saturday!!! On the coach he surprised me with 2 tickets to get into a private lounge at the airport only they where arranged for terminal 1 and we where travelling from terminal 2! Eventually got there, and well worth it, away from all the riff raff having complimentary drinks- anything you wanted, snacks, olives, cheeses muffins, cookies, tea coffee what ever. Flew into Dubai on 3rd May - again really really hot like Singapore. The driving is 100 times worse than Auckland, and the drivers know how to keep you awake! Again managed to see lots and lots in a few days. Loads of shopping malls (lucky for us Karen's bags were already full!). Had a desert safari, went to an awesome water park (where Karen learnt to keep her togs tied on well!) and just had a good explore round the city. Amazing number of cranes there so will be interesting to see what the city is like in 10 years. http://stephenkaren.awardspace.com/ http://stephenkaren.awardspace.com/... read more

Dubai: 12am: I felt lost as soon as I arrived in Dubai. No one was there to greet me and I had no idea where I was going to sleep. There was no way that I was going to stay inside the airport for 28 hours awaiting my next departure. So, I found an internet kiosk in the first and business class section of the airport for the Emirates. Oh, a little bit off topic, but the Emirates is seriously one of the best airlines I have ever been on. I felt like I was in a first class airplane. Seriously, each seat came with your own personal TV with like 50 movie choices, cable television, music like CDs of singers from around the world, games with a dual controller/telephone. Oh, also this plane had foot ... read more

Well now I'm at the end of my Dubai UAE experience. It was great. Everyone should come! I think anything anyone ever told me about this place was right off the mark, really, it's great! And the people, so wonderful, friendly, honest, helpful, unique. Further to my other entries, I was also able to get to the far east coast were UAE meets the Indian Ocean (very near the Oman border) as well as the capital Abu Dhabi (that's just fun to say). Did some shoppin / hagglin where I employed the Thomas T 'special price' technique which really worked like a charm! Found my cheapest (and very tasty) meal was a pop and a big bag of fresh, hot, delicious veggie pakoras...total price 2 dirhams or about .60. Yes, it's true you can spend a ... read more

Hi Jacqui and Paul are off to Dubia. We are off to complete the celebration of Pauls 40th birthday from July 2005. I have very kindly bought the holiday for Pauls birthday ( seeing as he took me to Singapore and Thialand for mine... aren't we generous to each other?). Anyone who knows me has been greated with an accurate count down of the number of days left to the holiday we leave in 7 days. I have the tickets, money, travel guide,Paul has his new passport, we have been out and purchased new luggage today (we are staying at the Burg Al Arab so thought we had beter look the part). I have only 3 more days at work then its into the final countdown. Neither of us have ever travelled to the Middle East ... read more

Well today was a funny day. I had decided to go snowboarding and ended up meeting this girl called Madeline from Norway. She was also pretty good at snowboarding so we hung out riding together. We got on really well and didn't seem to run out of things to say. Even though she was eight years younger than me, didn't seem to make any difference. She was staying in Dubai for just a few days with her mum and so was stuck hanging out with her mums friends. We had so much fun hanging out i suggested we should go to Aussie Legends (the only Australian pub in Dubai) for dinner. We met up later in the evening and hung out. We started playing some pool and we noticed a group of about three other guys ... read more
