and all the money is spent! We came home through Leaton, and took a pic or two. Ring any bells George? I think you said the house on the corner, so I hope that's it, or we'll have to go again!... read more

Today I met my two friends Kate and Irene at the canal near Oswestry. Its a good place to meet as its about half an hour for each to get there, and there's a lovely cafe - oh, and some nice walks along the canal and lanes. Its very exciting as we are thinking of going to Crete together for a week in March, only just talked about today, but they are both very keen, and I expect it would be lovely. I'm just not good at quick decisions. But I asked Alex and he says he doesn't mind, so I think I shall go if Irene finds out about it. ... read more

whilst shovelling yet more snow today, I found my ice candle, so I brought it in and lit it. Its very pretty. Its just water with holly and ivy etc frozen into it, and a small gap at the top for a night light. It melts indoors of course, but I could leave it on the step in case of visitors - I think not in this weather. ... read more

I didn't make these, but they are both just opposite the garage where I work. The big one you can see from the till, and makes me smile. Actually, he's about 5 foot high. The ice maiden is a work of art, I think. She's sitting outside the front door, and looking over the bridge. I thought they were both fun, so blogged them. There's a bitter east wind here tonight, straight from siberia. ... read more

I'd ordered some coal, but the van couldn't get up the drive. So we collected some small bags from the depot, and Alex had to drag it up on the sledge! Its still very cold, though nice in the sun. It went down to minus 13.5 on our neighbours roof on Thursday night. And the washing machine is frozen up! Hasn't done that since the kids were little. ... read more

It's been really cold here for at least 2 weeks, minus numbers quite a lot of the time. And on Tuesday night it was our turn for snow, a real blizzardy snow, which covered eveything in a 7 inch blanket and looks like a christmas card. Fine if you don't need to go anywhere. Thousands of schools are closed, and the roads are very quiet. My car is snuggled under its white blanket at the top of the drive, Alex's is at the bottom. he went to dig it out just now, then found it won't start, so he's waiting for a neighbour with jump leads to help - then a new battery I daresay. I managed to squeeze my ankle into wellies today, so once the car starts, we can go down to see Mum ... read more

years ago our friend gave Alex a large jar of sweets, and told him once they were eaten to use the jar to save loose change. He has done so ever since, and generally uses it for holiday money. However, this year he wants to buy a video camera, and was delighted to find that he has saved £58. 12 in the jar, which when added to Christmas money will be almost enough for the camera. Well saved Scrooge.... read more

well, Tom drove up from poole, to pick Sophie up and take her back to Leeds. But as heavy snow is forecast for tonight they decided to leave straight after tea, as they have to work tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping we get snowed in. Then I don't need to go to work tomorrow, and can just sit in front of the fire and watch a video or 2. And let my ankle heal after its jolt with the sledge - it is now a taseful shade of purple and yellow, and very swollen. Yuk. ... read more
