Well, last year we had a beautiful day for it, and all this week we had a heatwave. So we were due a cloudburst, and thats about what we got. However, people turned up with their canoes and their smiles, and a good, if chilly, time was had by all. We hope!... read more

Well, alex and I couldn't think what to get Mum for her birthday, so we gave her a "voucher" entitling her to a mystery trip and picnic. We collected her at 9.30 this morning, and we drove the pretty way to Shrewsbury, where we had hot chocolate at the newly opened "battlefield farm shop". Then a wheel round the shop and museum (all about the battle of Shrewsbury - Henry 4th or 5th, and Harry Hotspur) and off to a nearby forestry commission site for the picnic. We came home through Bomere Heath and Leaton, we think we found the farm, and its for sale!!! Fancy it?... read more

Just back from a couple of days with Sophie in Leeds. We had a lovely time, two theatre trips and a visit to Fountains abbey. A very slow and tedious journey home today though. The dog came with us and appeared to hate every minute of her holiday, shivering and shaking when we made her go for a walk round the park. I'd always assumed she didn't like the country because she was a townie - obviously not!!! So she's glad to be home, and the cats are fine too. ... read more

What a glorious day for it! We reckoned around 75 old tractors set off from a local village to Gregynog Hall, where they all lined up. Later they wended their way to a nearby hostelry for sustainance. They were raising money for the air ambulance, which made a landing, but not while we were there. We did see it though. ... read more

Today we took back the cat cage we'd borrowed from the cat rescue people. The RSPCA apparently only keep young, friendly and tame cats that are easily rehomable - the rest they put down. Except ..... step up Mark and Stella who take the old and the wild, and look after them until they find a nice kind owner. At the moment they have 27 unwanted elderly cats, mostly asleep in the sunroom, or following them about in the hope of a cuddle. I expect that most will end their days there. And that's where our 2 came from - not old thats for sure, but wild they certainly are. And this morning I found a dead rat outside, the first of many I hope. ... read more

one wet afternoon - today - we went to the old limestone quarry to discover all about it. Last year we spent a very wet evening watching an outdoor play there. Once again the magic worked and the rain didn't seem to matter, everyone had a lovely time. All sorts to see, good beer to drink, and a barbie too. ... read more

Just back from an overnight stay at my friend Kate's house in Wrexham, about an hour's drive. We met at a good walking spot yesterday afternoon, had a lovely walk with the dogs, then back to her house for tea. This morning we walked beside the River Dee before I left for home, and Kate drove to Scotland to visit her mum - a 4 hour drive. Wonder if she's there yet! ... read more
