Alex and I took Mum out for a day in Oswestry today. The lure was that a new supermarket had opened, as well as a new cafe, so we thought we'd give them a whirl. I don't think the supermarket will be getting much custom from us - hard to find a parking space and a wheelchair trolley - and "crowded" wasn't the word!!! However, the cafe that's opened in the old station was lovely. I had a cheese and fruit sandwich, piled with melon and pineapple and nuts. They just forgot the cheese!!!! But they DID have a disabled toilet - full marks. ... read more

Yesterday, Alex and Dad took themselves to the air show for the day. There was lots to see, including the Falcons parachute team and a fly- past by a Lancaster, which was nice for Dad to see. So Mum and I went out to lunch, then had a drive up the hill beside Welshpool, in the hopes of seeing some planes, but we missed them all. It was all free, as a thanks from the RAF for all the low flying they do round here - to the consternation of our dog! ... read more

Just got home from a 3 day trip to see my old school friend Hilary. She and her husband Mike live between Cheddar and Weston Super Mare, in Somerset, so its a journey of 3 and a half hours. We had a busy time, as you'll see. Hil's sister Rose has bought a house close by, so we caught up with her too. And daughter Rachel lives in Bristol, where she enthusiastically helps kids "go green", by going into schools and giving demonstrations and help withn gardening.... read more

My friend Lynda and I took ourselves off to leeds to see Sophie and watch an Opera North production. We called in on Lynda's mum on the way, and heard about the "olden days" when she used to work in the Arcade next to the theatre, making fur coats. Small world. Anyway, we arrived in time for lunch, spent the afternoon wandering the city and saw "the escape from the Serraille", which we thoroughly enjoyed. ... read more

There were lots of things happening round here over the weekend, but Alex decided to go and see what was going on at the festival of transport, as he had to run someone to the station in Welshpool anyway. Besides a parade of vintage lorries, there were lots of demonstrations, including one by the Sealed Knot (featuring our neighbour David) who did a re- enactment of the Battle of Montgomery. Alex said David was "dead good" Or did he mean "good dead"? Well, not too dead, as he has just been up here practising pike duty with Alex! ... read more

Today we had a surprise visit from Cathy, (with her mum and dad) and Jason and Anita - all the way from New Zealand. We all met down at Mum and Dad's for coffee and a scone, before taking a trip on the the little steam train. Then down to the shop for provisions, before they had to set off to the south again. It was lovely to catch up with them, and Jason and Alex remembered how well they got on last time they met!... read more

I've been meaning to do this walk for ages, and today was the day. I only walked 8 miles, from Meifod to Welshpool, where Alex met me on his way home from Powys Training, but the whole path is 130 miles long and winds its way round Montgomeryshire, in the footsteps (supposedly) of the welsh lord, Owen Glyndwer. It was beautiful, and I really enjoyed myself. ... read more
