happy birthday! Today Mum is 85. So Alex and I took a cake to be eaten with coffee, and Dad provided some fizz to be drunk afterwards, and a good time was had by all! After that, Alex and I took a sandwhich up to a wild spot of common land, where several cuckoos were heard. And now we're off to Welshpool to collect a takeaway curry for tea. ... read more

We took advantage of a government scheme to reduce carbon emissions by scrapping old cars for financial reward - and scrapped Alex's trusty Peugot to get money off a brand new Kia. I've never had a new car in my life, always bought old battered jobs and driven them to their doom, so its a bit of a change for me. Alex gets the purple Nissan which used to be Mum's. Also, I have to remember to change gear, as the Nissan was automatic! First journey was to Liverpool airport to pick up a colleague, and that was good. Here are some pics, hopefully!... read more

Because he felt birthdayish, Dad celebrated his 85th birthday with lunch at the Lowfield Arms, just the other side of Welshpool. They do really nice meals there, and I like the place because none of the furniture matches - some round tables, some rectangular, and lots of different chairs so you can choose a comfy one. We took his presents there to open, though Mum gave him a clock for the garden which he left at home.... read more

Alex and I went to the beach with Ineke, from work. We walked from Aberdovey all along the sand to Towyn, where we missed the train back by 2 minutes. So we had a cup of tea, then spotted a bus , and jumped on that. We drove home just as the sun was setting behind us, and the journey was magical, everything pink as it caught the sun. AND we saw a red kite, though are not as rare as they were a few years ago. ... read more

today we all met up in Shrewsbury, and walked along the River Severn through woods and meadows, for 3 hours till we reached a pleasant hostelry, where we sat in the garden to eat a lovely lunch and soak up the sun. Not bad for Britain in March!... read more

because when we got to the airport, we discovered all flights to Athens cancelled due to strikes in Greece, especially the airport! It was very disappoining, and we all felt mis. But we went for a walk to a pleasant hostelry near Kate's house, then back to our own homes. Tomorrow we shall get together again, and do a walk with all 3 dogs. Not sure about the rest of the week, but I intend to make to most of time off work. ... read more

such a lovely day that we went out and cut back the raspberries, before spreading some manure round. Just imagine all those juicy red berries! Then over to the woodland, to see which ash trees we can harvest this winter(well, spring I suppose). Hopefully they'll grow again from the bottom, and we can cut them again in 10 years or so. ... read more
