This is not so much a travelblog as an event blog. The 4th July is usually associated with American Independence Day, but now there is another reason to remember the date. Jenks and Jane were married on this day. And also, by happy chance, July 4th is when Jane's son Dave has his birthday: so it's a multiple celebration. All that cake !! Jane had done the traditional wedding eve thing of staying away from the groom: in her own house with her good friend Ann-Marie Morgan (no relation) and partying with her son Dave, daughter-in-law Kim, granddaughter Rosie, daughter Caroline and future son-in-law Louis, and Kim's parents Pam and Trevor Burdett. Gareth and Liane stayed with me at the Chateau Jenks. The wedding day began not too well with a heavy drizzle in Cardiff that ... read more

I popped up to Leeds this week to see Sophie. She and Tom are choosing a new house to rent, so I thought I'd go and have a nose, but forgot to get a pic! Will take some once they've moved in. Also, Sophie could get some time off work this week. ... read more

Back home again after a week in Scotland. We'd been invited to a friend's silver wedding "do" at Blair Atholl castle, and we decided to make a week of it. So we drove up the west side of England over 2 days, stayed up there for 2 nights,( we stayed in a lovely B and B with friends Joyce and Malcolm, who also know Judith and Peter, the anniversery couple ) down to friends in Dundee, then a night near Newcastle (meeting up with Sophie who was "on tour" there) before driving home again - 925 miles in a week. ... read more

well, its the middle of June again - how has that happened? - and time for the 25th dingy dawdle along the Montgomery canal. We had memories of last year's pouring rain, but today dawned bright and sunny, and we got under way. A couple of showers after lunch, but smiles all round. I did my turn taking the "late entries" - those who waited till today to decide! then Maisie and I strolled along in the wake of the dingies, as far as the first pub, where we stopped briefly for refreshment, then strolled back. Watching the martins swooping over the water. ... read more

A friend from Londis took 4 of us on a lovely walk up a steep hill, to see the lakes and hear a cuckoo. Well, we saw the lakes, but the cuckoo wasn't around today. Anyway, we had a good walk, though as we hadn't all thought to take a sandwich, we had to come home for lunch. ... read more

We did it. Our house is such a sun trap we decided to turn it into a little power station, so here we are getting solar panels - the kind that generate electricity, not the hot water sort. It is a big outlay, but with the generous feed in tariff introduced recently, it seems like a good investment, as well as being green. ... read more
