I took this weekend off work, just so we could go to the Michaelmas Fair at Bishops Castle, about 20 miles from home. The street entertainment is great, there are lots of stalls and lots of vintage vehicles. it was rather blowy and a little on the autumnal side, but we enjoyed our day out. ... read more

as autumn approaches, I thought I'd better do some serious harvesting. So its jams and pickles and bottling, what a store. Actually there's still lots left from last year, but you can't let it all rot. ... read more

While Sophie and Tom were staying, I booked a go on the high ropes course near here. Not for myself, I hasten to add. It was both high and wobbly, and you needed to be pretty intrepid. Just look. After a practise run, Tex decided not to go up high, so there aren't any pictures of him. ... read more

So a few weeks ago, just after a split from a dickhead of a boyfriend i decided to give up on all the saving money and being 'responsible' and buy myself a van. This has been something I have wanted to do for years but have never had the courage or the cash to just do it. After browsing autotrader and ebay for weeks, and after numerous arguments with my dad over which van was best suited (obviously he wanted the fuel efficient, fast van bla bla bla, who wants that?) I found 'the Rascal'. I can remember the night quite clearly, the parents where on a walk, I was sat infront of the t.v watching (yes I'm proud to admit it) eastenders, when I came across the little bedford rascal. Up to this point I ... read more

We headed out for the day to meet some friends, Phil, Rachael and Beatrix, in Builth Wells, a place recommended by the Lonely Planet as a top place to visit in Wales. Unfortunately, the recommendation seemed to be based on town being the annual host of the Royal Welsh Show, and as it was not the time for the Royal Welsh Show, the town was asleep. We did climb up to the top of the town to see the castle...which doesn't exist except for mounds of grass and earth, although the views were pretty good at the top. Over lunch at a nice little pub overlooking the river that bizarrely only accepted cash, Rachael started reading out excerpts from a Builth Wells visitors guide, which included a top ten things to do - the rugby club, ... read more

Hi Friends & Family, I'm back and not before time it seems. Sorry for the long delay...! Today, we decided to go on our own personal trek. Bwlch is so well situated and even has its own trekking route which starts just behind our hostel. Its called the LLANGORS LAKE CIRCULAR TREK. Its an energetic walk of 12.04 miles or 19.26km and basically took us all day but what a walk....! The weather was so-so but good enough for me at any rate. Thank goodness for our very reliable Jack Wolfskin jackets LOL as we were constantly having to take jackets off when it got too warm and then struggle to put them back on again when it started to rain. Layering at its finest! Suffice to say, it was excellent trekking weather and the views ... read more

Hi Friends and Family, Its time to go horse-riding. Yeah, you heard me! It HAS been a while. The last time I did a horse trek was in 2001. In the Dominican Republic. With a couple of local cowboys! I don’t have any pictures though ‘cos during the gentle trot, my horse decided to gallop away into the sunset. I was sooooo SCARED and unfortunately, my constant kicking at the heels only made the horse go faster. Oh my goodness. Well, I lived to tell the tale but have no video recollections and definitely no photos of the event. Cue 2010. This time, it was gonna be different. This time I booked with a respectable riding establishment recommended by the Brecon Beacons National Park. I chose LLANTHONY RIDING AND TREKKING. www.llanthony.co.uk Based at Court Farm next ... read more

Hi Friends and Family, Time to get a move on. After going to the very lovely Caerphilly Castle it was time to go to the Brecons 'cos they're expecting us! Our hostel was called” The Star Bunk House” and I picked it ‘cos it was slap in the middle of the Brecon Beacons National Park and it was a bunkhouse. A bunkhouse is a hostel or barracks-like building that historically was used to house working cowboys on ranches in North America. As most cowboys were young single men, the standard bunkhouse was a large open room with narrow beds or cots for each individual and little privacy. The bunkhouse of the late 19th century was usually heated by a wood stove and personal needs were attended to in an outhouse. While the modern bunkhouse today is ... read more
