We recently went to an amazing wedding of our friends Anna and Ben at Lake Vyrnwy in Powys in Mid Wales staying at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel. What an amazing location! Not knowing that something so nice was on my doorstep was quite an eye opener. so 2 weeks after, we decided to go back there and walk the circumference of the lake which is approx 12 miles long. There is a road that goes all the way around so it was pretty good terrain to walk on but being tarmac it was pretty hard going on the feet. There are plenty of places around the lake to pitch up and enjoy a packed lunch if you don't fancy one of the cafes in the area, Before the lake was made, in its place was the ... read more

After riding bicycles I thought it best to stay grounded and relax for a while. Luckily I went to the perfect place to relax. When my mom was in England when she was younger, she lived with Juliet and her family. Well now Juliet has a family of her own and I got to visit them. It was the second time I had met them, but it felt as though we’d known each other forever. It was great to be in a family setting, because it really felt like home to me. John, Juliet, and their son Oli, were extremely inviting and caring, and were so kind to me, even though I was nearly a stranger in their home. They fixed me home-made meals, gave me anything and everything I needed, and showed me around their ... read more

and in with the older! Our old Rayburn cooker developed a leak in its boiler before Christmas ( rather a nuisance as it tended to put the fire out), and after a lot of thought we decided to get a smaller older Rayburn to replace it. There were several reasons which we won't go into!!! Anyway, today was the day to do the deed - luckily I was at work for some of the time, as there's never anywhere to go when there are plumbers in the house. And I'm very pleased with the result - well the look of it anyway. Can't light the fire till tomorrow when the fire cement has had a chance to dry off. That will be the test, won't it? If you don't hear from me again............ read more

Today dawned as chilly as the last 10 or so! And we decided to visit one of the seven wonders of Wales, a waterfall fairly nearby, which I'm told is as high as Niagara, but obviously not as wide! Anyway, always spectacular, especially when festooned with icicles. The road up the valley was covered in ice and required careful driving, but we arrived safely, and walked round the hill to the top of the fall. It was in sunshine, but a bitter wind. Sorry to hear that the antipodean relations are suffering with the heat, we could send you a cooling blast!!. We got home again to a power cut, so had to cook tea by candlelight, then listened to the (battery) transistor radio. ... read more

sadly we forgot to take the camera with us to the pub last night, so there are no photos of the jollity there. But Alex recorded today's chilly - if not freezing - walk with some friends who live nearby, called Andrew and Wendy. We always make a point of seeing them over Christmas, and new years day is actually their wedding anniversary. Congratulations on 37 years!... read more

The sun shone on the frosty grass and it looked beautiful. No wind, so it didn't feel so cold, and no coat required. This is taken from our field looking across the valley - which is the view from the front of the house just about. The white house is my hairdresser's, so not far to go! She works from home. Also, photo of Liz and Jerry, when they came up a couple of weeks ago. ... read more
