After the efficiency of the day before culminating in the evening out south of the River, the next day didn't start well. A debit card went AWOL shortly after midnight. It was fortunately re-discovered in the confines of the room. The heavens had opened when we awoke and in the hours of sleep, a train ticket had now gone AWOL. It was once again re-discovered in the confines of the room, having gone to ground so to speak under the tray which held the coffee making facilities. A lucky find, but not until East Leake Loyal had tipped his bag upside down half a dozen times. The day improved. The rain eased off a bit and the breakfast was superb. I largely dined alone, as East Leake Loyal was still dismantling his holdall at this point. ... read more

The Glasgow Express had an early start. 0521 Hours! As usual, I am influenced by the price. The price is dictated by the route. Why else would be heading to Warrington? East Midlands Trains had it all under control and l was relieved that the train meandered on it's way bang on time. The pressure of the being the organiser. The other early morning punters were scarce. They clearly had less exciting destinations and were not planning to be the people! The journey was generally uneventful. The East Leake Loyal complemented the catering arrangements. The Manchester commuters boarded at Stockport. The traffic snarling on the M60 below suggested they had made a good decision. I had a flashback to the unhappy days being based at Regent House. It was too dark to get a sighting of ... read more

Hi Guys Short but sweet update. We enjoyed our time in Liverpool, visiting a few little pubs for lunch/dinner. Have a new drink that I will need to make at home (Vodka, Apple Juice & Lemonade) quite a nice little drink that one. It has been very cold and wet, just how you picture the UK :). We went from Liverpool and crossed into Scotland and stayed in Glasgow for the night. Nice Hotel but even better view of the fireworks that were going off for Guy Fawkes Night. Oh, that's right.. we forgot to tell you about the fireworks.. Unlike Australia, you can buy your fireworks fix at the local Tesco (Coles), local newsagent, really wherever they want to sell them. We aren't talking just small firecrackers here, there are all different sorts. Andrew took ... read more

Pulling back the curtains revealed a view of drizzly rain which did not look promising for sightseeing in Glasgow today so we will need to look for an indoor activity in case the weather doesn’t clear by the time we drive into the city. We weren’t in too much of a hurry and had a leisurely breakfast before setting out on the M80 for the drive to Glasgow. With light rain still falling by the time we reached the city we decided to take a wander through the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and then hopefully by the time we had finished the weather might have cleared. Finding a car park close to the museum wasn’t that easy and the signs we followed to the designated car park for the museum led us to an area ... read more

Geo: 55.8656, -4.25722My stay in Glasgow started with a roast dinner cooked by Ben and Forbes. Well, it was pointed to me that it technically was not a roast dinner as there were no roast potatoes, and only a roast chicken. Anyways, it was really good. We had cupcakes from Bibi's (St Andrews) for dinner as I figured they might miss them.I went to see Richard and his new lab. Things haven't changed too much: the people are the same, only the place is different. I guess I have only been gone for a year... Glasgow though is much different form St Andrews. When it comes to picking a pub or a place for food there is a multitude of choices. And I don't know anywhere. But they know a few.The pub next to the botanical ... read more

The weather has been acting up, the rain and the sun have been trying to outdo each other. Colds has caught up and I was feeling poorly. Not on the best mood for a four-hour train ride to Glasgow. Straight to the train station from work on a Friday night. I'm pretty much missing my travel buddies, we would definitely have a blast if they were here. I dropped by Sainsburry to buy snacks, with a bad headache starting to set in. "Ni Hao! That'd be £7.5 dear", the check-out staff. I handed him the money, "Cheers mate!” They still think I'm Chinese. I'm not even fair enough to be Chinese. And my Mathematics Skills would definitely not pass for a Chinese. The train wasn't too crowded. I was previously in so much doubt whether I ... read more

It was a bit difficult to wake up this morning. Some how I managed to make it to breakfast on time. After eating, we were off to the town of Stirling. On the way we stopped to see Hamish, the hairy cow. Evidently this is a tourist attraction?? Not really my thing...but we got onto he bus to go to Sterling Castle, which is very much my thing! The castle is very beautiful and the sun finally comes out. The grounds are so green and the landscaping is stunning. The castle is visitor friendly with many rooms designed to experience the castle. Each room has a person in authentic dress explaining features of the castle. Laura and I found thrones in the great hall. I had to sit and take a picture. It felt natural... I ... read more
