I travelled there and back, got my passport filled with stamps (and VISAs). And now, I only have one question: where my wanderlust will take me next?

For the second edition of this lantern festival they made it larger and bigger. So we were told, since we didn’t visit the 1st edition last year. This festival is so popular that tickets have to be bought in advance and we arrived 1h30 before opening time. We were at the beginning of the line which turned out to be very long behind us. Last year, 250 000 person braved the evening to see it. It is a display of light ‘sculptures’, a tradition in the province of Sichuan (China). It is really impressive and beautiful. It makes up for a enchanting evening for everyone, young and less young alike. It is very hard to describe so I let you have a look at the pictures. Pour sa deuxième édition, le festival des lanternes s’est agrandi. ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Dubrovnik October 2nd 2018

There is one thing we really enjoyed while in dubrovnik, it was enjoying the sunset and our nights out. We have found a couple of nice bars and one restaurant worth mentionning. If you are looking for a nice view point to enjoy the sunset, then I would propose one of those two locations: Bard bar ou Buza bar. The two are fairly crowded at that time of the day, so come early or be lucky to find a nice seat. And yet they are not so easily spotted. You have to go through a tiny gate from inside the city walls to find yourself at the foot of it. Just grand! The atmosphere in both is great but Bard is a bit more fancy, serving nice cocktails while Buza is a bit more rough serving ... read more

The island of Mljet is about 1h30 ferry away from Dubrovnik. At this time of the year there is not so many option concerning the schedule. So, in order to have time to enjoy the National Park, we decided to spend one night on the island. The ferry took us to Polace, where we rented bikes to go to the main Lake. It is rather a steep ascent but I managed on low gear so I guess everyone can also manage. The descent on the other side is easier! But steep to climb on the way back. However, views from the top are stunning. Our B&B was in Babin kucé and turned out to be a perfect location to explore from. On our first afternoon, we took the small boat from Pristaniste to the small island ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Lopud September 23rd 2018

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Verona June 23rd 2018

I went to Verone for a conference. I like going to conferences to catch up with previous colleagued and friends. It is especially nice e^when the conference takes lace in a nice little town. Verona is most known thanks to Shakespear famous novel "Romeo and Juliet" and also for its Opera festival (during opera are played in the huge arena). Social events at this conference were great: we got a city tour, a dinner in Lazize and one in a great mansion in the country side. Verona is only a 6h train ride from Geneva, so at the end of the conference Alex joined me for a long weekend. It's a very pleasant city. You can see all the major sites in a day: the arena, apparently the biggest in the wolrd still use for shows ... read more

Braemar gathering or the biggest highland games in Scotland, the one were the Queen goes! We kind of planned our Scottish holiday around that date. I absolutely wanted to take Alex to a Highland game and this one is the best. Plus we were so lucky with the weather that we almost got sun burned! On our way from the Isle of Skye to Braemar, we stopped to visit Urquhart castle on the bank of Loch Ness. I like to visit this castle, especially on a sunny day. The visit starts with a short video explaining the history of the castle and of this part of Scotland. Visitors should definitely watch that video before visiting the castle ground. It has a little surprise at the end and I am not going to spoil it since it ... read more

We rented a car at Edinburgh airport and we were on your way for some great adventures! It’s me we will do the driving on the ‘wrong’ side since I was used to. It came back to me quickly enough, just need to be a little more concentrated than usual. We took the scenic route to the Isle of Skye, meaning we drove through Glen Coe, one of the most beautiful glen in Scotland. I drove through that Glen few times before, but I don’t remember ever seeing it in the sunshine! Now it’s done! Of course it was still very windy in the glen and quite chilly but the scenery is truly stunning! Well worse the detour! We stopped at Fort William for lunch. When we were hitting the road again, we saw 2 hitchhikers ... read more

Who choose to spend their holidays in Scotland? Few reasons: it’s beautiful, you are fed up with summer heat in your town or you have lived here for a wee while and feel like going back. All three for me! We started and ended or trip in Edinburgh because it is easy to fly to and I really like this city. At arrival, we jump into the ‘new’ tramway to the city centre. And the first thing we did when we got off was to rush into a nearby pub to eat a burger and drink a beer. We wanted to be near the Royal mile and the city centre so we rented one of the student flat. The university made them available to the public during summer break. Geo: 52.044, -0.699569I went to London for a weekend. Well not really London, just a bit north in Milton Keynes (apparently extremely famous all over England for its many roundabout). Why was I in London? Well to celebrate my friend Alex 30th birthday. And what did we do? We went sledging in the afternoon and had a 1930s themed party in the evening. I had a great time catching up with old friends. The sledging part was a bit surreal. It was obviously indoor. I was not expecting much but after a little while you kind of forget you are inside. It is cold in there. We had great fun! The party was also amazing. All the effort where made to make you feel like you were in the 30s. And everyone came in fancy dress!Je suis ... read more

It has been a while seen I last wrote on my blog. But I have been busy doing stuffs. You might wonder what: well lot of stuff. Plus we had a lovely month of September and October. So I had to get out to play in the sun and eat all the ice cream I could. There was a Movenpick ice cream truck near the lake. Don't say Movenbrick or the Swiss will laugh at you (true story…). Then I discovered one in Carouge. I like wondering around in Carouge on a sunny afternoon, it's lovely. The atmosphere there is relaxed and there is way less tourist than in the city centre. And the gelato here are really good. I will make this spot on the 'place du Marché' my hang out next summer. I also ... read more
