The island of Mljet is about 1h30 ferry away from Dubrovnik. At this time of the year there is not so many option concerning the schedule. So, in order to have time to enjoy the National Park, we decided to spend one night on the island. The ferry took us to Polace, where we rented bikes to go to the main Lake. It is rather a steep ascent but I managed on low gear so I guess everyone can also manage. The descent on the other side is easier! But steep to climb on the way back. However, views from the top are stunning.
Our B&B was in Babin kucé and turned out to be a perfect location to explore from. On our first afternoon, we took the small boat from Pristaniste to the small island where is the St Marie monastery. There is a little restaurant there. We stopped for lunch and I had the best fish of our trip in Croatia here! Fresh and grilled to perfection.
After a tour of the Benedictine Monastery, we took the boat back and went to the small lake. We food a ‘niche’ between trees and stones, to settle ourselves. Alex
went snorkelling but the water in the small lake is not as clear as in the big lake or the see. It is apparently due to some resurging clear water that mix with the salt water and form some precipitate.
We went back to our B&B on time for an apero-sunset with a glass of wine. Life is good!
The next day, we had a small breakfast and set up to make the tour of the big lake. Our bums were sore from yesterday cycling, so we had to seat on our towels to ease the pain…. Despite this little inconvenience, we really enjoyed the view around the path. It was very quiet.
We were back in Polace at lunch time and instead of seating in a restaurant, we bought some local cheese, ham and bread in a shop in had a picnic on the beach. Can hardly get a nicer view for a picnic! See for yourself, the 2 pictures of the panorama are from Polace Bay.
L’île de Mljet est à 1h30 de ferry de Dubrovnik mais à cette période de l’année il n’y a pas trop le choix pour les horaires. Donc, histoire de profiter du Parc National, nous avons décidé d’y passer une nuit. Le ferry nous a déposés à Polace, où nous avons loué des vélos pour rejoindre le lac principal. Il y a une ‘montagne’ entre les deux et ça grimpe sacrément. Bon, en petite vitesse j’ai réussi alors tout le monde devrait pouvoir y arriver. Et de l’autre côté, ça descend !
Notre B&B se trouvait à Babin Kucé, donc on a posé nos sacs avant de prendre le petit bateau entre Pristine et l’île où se trouve le monastère Bénédictin St Marie. A côté du monastère, il y a un petit resto. On s’y est arrêté pour manger. Je ne pensais que j’allais me régaler avec un délicieux poisson frais grillé. Surement le meilleur du séjour ! Après le tour du monastère, nous sommes allés au bord du petit lac. On a pu trouver une petite crique caillouteuse où se relaxer. Alex a fait un peu de ‘tuba’ mais l’eau ici n’est pas aussi claire que dans le grand lac ou la mer. Apparemment, il y a des sources d’eau douce qui font précipiter l’eau salée. Nous sommes retournés à

Le jour suivant, nous avons fait le tour du grand lac. On a avais un peu mal aux fesses alors on a dû mettre nos serviettes de plages sur la selle pour la rendre plus confortable. Malgré cette petite inconvenance, nous avons beaucoup apprécié les vues et le calme sur le chemin. Nous étions de retour à Polace vers midi, et au lieu d’aller dans un resto nous avons préféré acheté un bout de fromage et de la charcuterie locale pour se faire un pique-nique sur la plage. On a bien profité de la vue. Ce sont les deux photos en panorama !
