Hi Guys Time for our last update..can't believe it! Will pick up where we left off in Edinburgh. Andrew felt well enough the next day to visit Edinburgh Castle and a shop where they have the weaving looms to make tartans. Amazing to see! So cold in Edinburgh, the wind just went straight through you, I think it was about 4 degrees, but the guy at the ticket box said this was nothing, it can get to -26 degrees in winter! Our next step after Edinburgh was York, where we stayed at a B&B and Nikki, the lady who run it, was lovely. Very talkative, but informative. York and Cambridge which was our next place were stopovers on our way back to London. Cambridge is a massive university town. Very pretty, lots of parks and trees. ... read more

Hi Guys Short but sweet update. We enjoyed our time in Liverpool, visiting a few little pubs for lunch/dinner. Have a new drink that I will need to make at home (Vodka, Apple Juice & Lemonade) quite a nice little drink that one. It has been very cold and wet, just how you picture the UK :). We went from Liverpool and crossed into Scotland and stayed in Glasgow for the night. Nice Hotel but even better view of the fireworks that were going off for Guy Fawkes Night. Oh, that's right.. we forgot to tell you about the fireworks.. Unlike Australia, you can buy your fireworks fix at the local Tesco (Coles), local newsagent, really wherever they want to sell them. We aren't talking just small firecrackers here, there are all different sorts. Andrew took ... read more

Ok, yes, it has been over two weeks since our last update!! Wow, has time flown! First come first, we wanted to back track and tell you about something that happened when we were leaving the Sorrento/Naples area. We had been warned about Naples, so decided not to go and what happened on the autobarn proved our decision correct. Everywhere in Germany/Italy/France has tolls that you have to pay. The locals have cards that they can use to go through the toll booths, however everyone has to pay either cash or credit card. Some tollbooths are manned, but the majority are automated, where you use c/c or pay via coins/notes into the machine. We had no problems throughout our trip, until we got to the Tollbooth outside of Naples. We thought it a little strange that ... read more

Hey Guys Short update this time :) We left Sorrento yesterday (Thursday) morning and started our drive towards Pisa. We decided to break it up and stop in a place just outside of Rome.. We booked it on the Net and put it into the GPS in the car. The GPS was telling us that we had arrived at our destination when we were travelling in the middle of the freeway doing 130klms an hour! I don't think so! An hour and a half later, we finally found the accommodation right next to the freeway. Stupid GPS and even worse, the address details were given to us by the hotel. Anyway, we arrived and it was this beautiful Bed and Breakfast/Hotel. The rooms were new and I think we were the only ones staying there, so ... read more

A week since our last update, time is flying! I keep promising I will write things down more regularly, but so many distractions! We had just arrived in Rome in our last update and I think I had mentioned we were going out on Segways on Thursday Night. To say I (Amanda) was a little apprehensive, is an understatement. They look like the most amount of fun and I can tell you, they are!!! In our Segway Group there was only 4 of us plus the guide, so it was nice and small. We started with a 10 minute training session and that is all you really need. Andrew and I picked it up very quickly and we had an absolute ball! The company we went with were very organised, everyone had their own radio with ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence October 9th 2013

Ciao!! We heard a rumour that the weather has been 30 degrees at home, hope everyone is out and about enjoying it! Bit of news: Andrew and I have decided that we could live here (especially Florence), so we might change our flights home...(we wish). Arriving in Florence was a bit of a shock, our Hotel was located in a bit of a Housing Commission area, with a few interesting looking characters, but once you were inside, you had no idea. New hotel, with nice room etc. When we arrived in Florence it was raining, so we decided to go and do some washing at the Laundromat instead of getting wet outside. (only real piece of housework have had to do in 4 weeks - loving it)!. To amuse ourselves when doing washing, we brought along ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lombardy » Milan October 6th 2013

We left Liechtenstein yesterday (Saturday 5th) and on our way to Milan, we made a pitstop at Lake Como. Wow, even in the overcast weather I can see why this is the playground of the rich and famous (Including Mr Clooney). It is beautiful. The streets are mad, we went for a drive up the side of the mountain and they are so very narrow, in some places only one car can go through at a time. So glad that Andrew was driving. We needed to grab some lunch and some groceries, so we went to a shopping centre in Como. Wow, Andrew and I have been born in the wrong country. The supermarket here was at least half of a bunnings store in size. It had groceries and clothes and stuff. But Andrew and I ... read more

Europe » Austria » Tyrol » Innsbruck October 6th 2013

We have arrived in Innsbruck, a town surrounded by the Alps. The scenery is amazing and is it hard to believe that in a few months it will all be covered in a white blanket of snow. It is a very busy place, lots of tourists visiting the shops. Swarovski crystal is made here, there was an exhibition of the crystal and a huge shop where you could some. I debated so much about what I would like, that I talked myself out of buying anything :) Probably not a bad thing! We walked around town and headed back to the hotel for a break. Due to all the bookings we have made, we got a night free accommodation, so we decided to book the Hilton! Really nice. Then it was out to dinner at a ... read more

Hi Guys Wow, not sure how to put our amazing week into words, but will try ;). Our holiday to date has felt like a dream, actually being in the places that you have heard about it but are so far away, it is still hard to believe we are actually here. We left Salzburg on Sunday morning, to cross the border into Italy. Wow, while I have loved visiting every country so far, it has always been about getting to Italy. So much so, that when we came to the border, I shed a few tears when we crossed it. This was a place that I have grown up hearing about, tasting food and wine from and listening and trying to learn the language too. I think the tears were a mix of excitement, relief ... read more

Hi Guys Finally have internet again. It is amazing how lost you feel without it! Especially, when you are trying to plan your holiday only a few days in advance! We returned to the Oktoberfest grounds on Wednesday morning (had to try beer from another beer tent). We arrived around 12 and the tent we were in was quiet. We had a table to ourselves for a while and then had an American Couple and their parents sit with us. Lunch today was half a chicken and chips, another stein (litre of beer) for Andrew and an interesting chat with the couples next to us. The husband was in the military and posted to Italy. They gave us advice on where to go in and around Italy, which was really appreciated. After the beer was finished, ... read more
