Here is a link to a map of all the countries I have been to (including this upcoming trip): Visited Countries Map I will be leaving for Scotland in approx 10 days. I am getting more and more excited as time draws near. I am also apprehensive about flying considering the recently foiled airline terror plot from the UK to the US. I trust that God will keep me safe on my journey. ... read more

Hey guys, after hot July, it was the turn to the rain to show up! I am always telling you, it rains more in August than in July (in R’dam), but you don’t listen L! Check the numbers then: But what saved my August was Glasgow! I was so tired of rainy R’dam that I thought ‘I have to get out of here’, and decided to visit Glasgow (yes, I like to challenge the statistics, and it worked: it turned out to be sunny!) Of course I didn’t know that in the moment of booking, but I had such a good feeling about it that I started telling everyone: I am going to Glasgow ; I am going to Glasgow; a whole wkd away ; lara-la-la-ra-la ... I saw a lot of puzzled faces, and in ... read more

Last days in Scotland, but I'm sure I'll be back sometime during my stint in the UK. Haven't really done a whole lot today besides wandering around Glasgow listening to Belle and Sebastian. Probably doesn't really warrant an entry here but ohwell. Onto Dublin tomorrow. Incidentally, I can't get over how cheap flights in Europe are. £15 including taxes and charges gets me from Glasgow to Dublin. £15 for a flight? Some restaraunts charge you more just for dinner! I'm not really sure how they manage it but hey, I'm not complaining.... read more

The school finally handed out our loan laptops. After sitting through a full week of power point presentations I was wondering if maybe the Scottish had a little “thing” with PowerPoint. As it turns out, Profs and teachers here do like to put everything onto those slides and for my courses they will have all of them downloaded onto First Class. They are pushing ICT (information and communication technology) here like drugs. Although I am grateful for the free loan laptops, it has put the burden of printing and summarising onto us, the student. They encourage us to bring our laptops everywhere, especially to class. That, to me, is a bad idea. It’s like inviting everyone to text message from their phone. It’s worse of course- imagine the sound of 500 people on msn messenger! I ... read more

So here I am in the home of Belle & Sebastian, one of my all time favourite bands, who I'm sure most of my friends have never even heard of. Nice. To clarify, I'm in Glasgow, which I'm told is friendlier than Edinburgh, even if you can't even begin to decipher the Glaswegian accent. My first day there, I spent all morning trying to get myself to Kelvingrove Gardens over in the student district of town. There was no real reason for my trip out there except that I had once seen some really awesome photos of it, but evidently they were photos taken by a really good photographer with some exceptional photoshop skills because the park really wasn't that exciting once I finally got there. Nevermind, better luck next time. My second day in Glasgow ... read more

I can’t believe I’ve been here for almost one week now. I’ll try to do a brief synopsis of what I’ve done since I’ve arrived. With a lot of help from the extremely friendly Scottish people I made it to the school campus safe and sound. On Friday (my first full day in the city), I went shopping for groceries and had a general roam around town. The campus I live in is right downtown (city centre). The campus I go to school in is about a 30min bus ride from downtown. The school provides a free bus service going to and from the two campuses everyday. The city is so old looking compared to Vancouver. There’s a lot of construction going on everywhere and you can see very new buildings right beside very old ones. ... read more

Hey everyone, So I am now in Glasgow with Andrew and the band... very cool to be here when there is so much going on with the worlds, I am very excited to hear them play tomorrow and just experience it all! Edinburgh was awesome; the Fringe was on while I was there so I saw a show, did some shopping and went to the castle- it's cool being in a place you've heard about, even if it is from Braveheart! The city itself has a very funky vibe; the streets are full of performers and tourists, the mix is interesting and very exciting... I would have spent more time there if I had the chance, but off to Glasgow it is. Now, hopefully I will make it home on Monday, I am sure I will ... read more

Hey All!!! We've been here in Glasgow for the past two days. It's a lot more like a Canadian city here (compared to Edinburgh) and unfortunately we haven't had much opportunity to see many of the sites. Our hostel is kinda far from the city centre. On our first day, we went out to Paisley (a sub-urb of Glagow) to the Abbey (big fancy church) there - we got a personal tour by a really cool old Scottish guy - so that made the trip even better! Later we went to Glasgow cathedral (another big fancy church) and later Alex let me go shopping down Buchanan street (which is a super crowded shopping street) except I've been dressing grubby and looking like a boy so long - I didn't even want to shop - not to ... read more

Hello again everybody, The last few days have been great. On Friday we took a day trip out of Inverness to Fort George. We thought it would be a good idea to take the train to Nairn and then walk the rest of the way along the highway - not such a great idea. The walk was a lot longer than we expected and we ended up resorting to hitchhiking the last few miles. Luckily the third car stopped for us. A friendly 84 year old man took us to the fort - he didn't look a day over 60. The fort was pretty cool (Dad would've loved it) but the highlight was watching a group of dolphins play around right in front of us for about 45 mins. We bused home - thank God!!! The ... read more
