We went to Loch Lomand today and boy was it beautiful. It was a hour train ride and then we walked across the bridge so we could walk along the lake. There were some pretty big swans and I really don't like swans. Their nice to look at from a distance. Dana wanted to get her picture taken with one of the friendly swans that was roaming around the grounds by the lake. I ended up running past it hoping it wouldn't chase me. Dana the brave soul she is went up beside it for the photo however it started coming towards her and she was inching back. So the photo ended up her pointed at the swan from a distance. Pretty Risky if you ask me!!! We walk around the park and explored a ... read more

Before I came to Scotland, I drank maybe once a month, probably not even that much. Friends back home will testify. Now? - Almost every weekend. Why this has happened, you might ask. The drinking culture here is strong. They start drinking at about 6pm and last till the early rays of sun start peeking through the thick grey clouds. This is evident in their “no more food served” policy after 6. I, unfortunately, do not have the Scottish stamina for partying and drinking and start looking for my bed at around 12. I feel if they could start drinking at a more decent time, say 9-10, then I may be able to go past midnight. It’s the middle of March and it is snowing. I had a hang over from hell this morning and had ... read more

How's it going everyone? Hope everyone's doing good. I can't believe I've been here for 5 days already. That's crazy. The weekend went by so fast, and we packed a lot into it. On Friday we went to town on the train. The train is kind of like our sky train but faster and a lot more of them. I definitely could get lost. I didn't realize how old the city was until we started looking at all the buildings. Its pretty neat. We walked through George Square and went inside the City of Chambers, we walked through the Museum of Modern Art. That was pretty cool and really different. We walked down what they call the Peoples Street, probably the best street for me to be on cause I can't get hit by a car ... read more

I haven't missed a single transport connection on this whole trip. For me, who's missed his fair share of planes, ferries, and even wedding busses - sometimes by days, this is an amazing achievement. That's why I wasn't too worried about catching an early Sunday morning flight out of Poland, the day before I start work in Glasgow, and the morning AFTER a three person birthday. I shouldn’t be so cocky. The plane was leaving at 10am.. I'm not entirely sure what happened after the party, except that everything obviously didn't go to plan. I woke up at 9am. "that's not good!" I looked around me while pulling on last nights clothes and briefly wondered whether i should just give up then and there.. I'd started packing the night before -very conscientious- but I hadn't finished ... read more

After a short but potent night of drinking, I decided, last minute, to go with my two new roommates and a visiting fifth Canadian roommate to Stirling. Before I go on with the story, people should understand the significance of this trip to our visiting Canadian friend, Jeff. He has spent the past month backpacking through most of Western Europe; Glasgow was his last stop, before his return to Ontario. He’s only been here sleeping on our remarkably uncomfortable couch since Wednesday and just left this afternoon. In this short time he’s become a welcome fifth roommate. He came to Scotland to live his dream of re-enacting Braveheart in Stirling. Oh, and he came to visit his childhood friend Sarah (our roommate). I wasn’t planning on going on this trip and had just cancelled a pre ... read more
