I'm staying with my Auntie Janet in her cute little house in Forest Row, East Sussex. My Auntie keeps apologising that the house is so small but I really love it. It feels cosy and nicely different to Canberra's 60's-70's houses. Janet is very much like my Mother and we are getting along well. She looks like a shorter version of my Mum but with different colouring. Mum is fair with blue eyes and blonde hair where Janet has dark eyes and is brunette. It feels to good have arrived somewhere safe and to be looked after by family. Janet has a German student Maren staying with her for a month. She is very nice and speaks fluent English. It's nice to have someone more my age around and she has invited to take me out ... read more

We Brits love to complain about the weather. We have a lot of weather to complain about. When it's wet and windy, we complain that it's too wet and windy. When it's cold and gloomy, we moan about it being cold and gloomy. When it's hot and sunny, we moan about it being too... you get the idea. Today, in the middle of the month of May, the sun was shining. So my wife took me to Brighton. It was actually a belated birthday present. My birthday was in March, but it was wet and windy, so we didn't go. We just moaned about it being too wet and windy. Fortunately, although it was sunny today, it wasn't hot. There wasn't even a mention of wet, windy or gloomy in the weather forecast. So, as we ... read more

Geo: 50.8209, -0.139846We arrived in Brighton in a dreadful weather. You know that kind of drizzled and wind that just makes you feel miserable. Anyways, we went first to Andrew's new school to store all his stuffs in a cupboard. Brighton College looks nothing like a school to me, at least from the outside, then classrooms are like one would expect. The building are made of black bricks with windows in white sculpted stone, and there is a chapel in the middle. Really amazing for a school. After that we met with Gwen and went to check in in our hostel. It is opposite the pier with a bar on the ground floor. I can now say that this bar was very popular (for some unclear reasons) and thus the all hostel was a party hostel ... read more

Day 36 – Brighton We’re back to dreary weather. Heading to Brighton which is supposed to be an awesome seaside town and it’s cold, wet and windy. Just great. Luckily Brighton has amazing shopping. They have these awesome laneways with all types of weird and wonderful shops. I found one crazy shop where I could have bought one of everything. Eventually the weather began to clear a little and we could head to the Brighton Pier for a looksie. Still freezing though. Come back sun. Day 37 – Heathrow We returned the car today. No more driving for me until September. I was ready to give it back though. I was getting a bruised heel from resting my foot on the car floor for hours at a time. Wearing thongs probably didn’t ... read more

Geo: 50.8209, -0.139846 Brighton is in Sussex and it is weekend getaway for Londoners since many years, it takes less than an hour from London to Brighton station by train. Places to see are the Royal Pavilion, Brighton beach, Brighton pier, the lanes, museums. Also it is popular with young people for clubbing, sports etc. We arrived early in the morning to Brighton from London Victoria, bought a day bus pass and took the bus 12x to Eastbourne via Beachy head, this ride is lovely as it passes the coastline with brilliant views of the cliffs, sea, Beachy head. We walked the pier at Eastbourne and then took the bus 12x back to Brighton Pier. We walked the Brighton pier, had chips, ice cream and we took the bus 77 to Devil's Dyke. It is very ... read more

While pottering along the coast at the weekend I noticed that the Masthead VHF aerial had fallen over having a distinctly detrimental effect on the radio.......There was nothing else to do but send Samantha up the mast to fix it !!! (who said chivalry was dead?). Unfortunately it was beyond repair and needed replacing, unfortunately this also meant that I had to go up with Sam working up a warm glow on the winch. Whilst I am not afraid of heights I was very afraid of Sam on the winch, whilst I went up very slowly I wasn't sure at the rate of knots that I would plummet to the deck. As you can see, my fears were unfounded as I am still able to type.... and the radio works ! Looking forward to leaving for ... read more

Hello all, Well it's been a week since I returned from Italy and it feels like I never went. This week I thought I'd finish off by sharing with you all some of my favorite moments: Top ten moments: Facing the fear Climbing a mountain Riding on a Vespa Meeting new people from other countries Learning a new language Learning how to cook Italian food (enough stuff) All the places I visited - Ivrea, Turin, Rome, Pompeii, Milan, Slovenia, Croatia, San Felice Circeo, Venice, Feltre, Treviso, San Martino, Florence and Pisa Trying food I wouldn't have normally eaten - rabbit, frogs legs, polenta, octopus, mussels, sword fish and vodka pasta Discovering I can do anything I put my mind to I don't have any regrets about taking a year out of life and I would have ... read more

Leaving Winchester behind us on Wednesday morning we settled onto the UK’s biggest Car park, the M25, to be fair it wasn’t too bad just so very boring. Woolly says – There was nothing to look at except cars and as Ian wouldn’t let me out to have pictures taken for my I Spy book I contented myself with snoozing away the journey to Bishops Stortford and thinking that we only have another 4 more sleeps until I turn into a French Mammoth!!! We arrived at the Hop Pole (formerly the John Houblon) where we had spent our first ever night in Georgie, it was great to be back and to spend the afternoon and evening catching up with Carys and Les (Jo’s Aunt and Uncle) and Maxie my four legged friend. A lovely dinner was ... read more

God I can't believe it. This has come around stupidly quickly; I thought it was dragging at first, clearly not! My chickenpox really knocked me, and there was a stage when I didn't want to go. The thought to being so ill in a foreign country was so daunting, and I think it was the first time I was really scared about going. I've started to get back to myself and let the excitement build up; now i've got the "counting down the days" worry! Literally, so far, all I have is a backpack, a flight ticket and travel insurance. No doubt I will be getting lost in Suvarnabhumi Airport! I really need to get my act together in these next 3 weeks. Plan, plan, plan. This is my mission. To do list below. 1. Plan ... read more
