I'm staying with my Auntie Janet in her cute little house in Forest Row, East Sussex. My Auntie keeps apologising that the house is so small but I really love it. It feels cosy and nicely different to Canberra's 60's-70's houses. Janet is very much like my Mother and we are getting along well. She looks like a shorter version of my Mum but with different colouring. Mum is fair with blue eyes and blonde hair where Janet has dark eyes and is brunette. It feels to good have arrived somewhere safe and to be looked after by family. Janet has a German student Maren staying with her for a month. She is very nice and speaks fluent English. It's nice to have someone more my age around and she has invited to take me out on the bus with her either Brighton or Tunbridge Wells.
Today I walked into Forest Row which took 5mins down the street and had a look at the nice little shops. It was quite small but I did notice there was a gorgeous looking cake shop that I will put on my list to visit before I leave. Wanting some exercise after my flight
I decided to walk to East Grinstead. Most people take the bus but I was keen to see some of the area. I followed a 2.5 mile walking track to East Ginstead and was amazed to see how green the land was. It was as though someone had just photoshopped the area and gone to town changing the tint. Along the way I saw a little bunnie, a grey squirrel and a red fox. It took 45mins to get to the village and it was one of the nicest walks I have ever done. There were many cyclists and dog walkers around and everyone said 'Hiya' or 'Hello' as they past by.
East Grinstead is a lovely village with 14th century Middle Ages buildings. There are not many shops but plenty of different shops to what I am used to. I managed to visit a phone store and set up my phone and plan, buy some plasters (band-aids) for my heels that had blistered on the walk and a new moisturiser from Boots pharmacy and go to buy some groceries from Waitrose supermarket. I was blown away looking at all the choices in the supermarket. Almost too many choices,
which made it hard to decide. The packaged and ready made food is so cheap and really nice quality. I couldn't help wishing my McGee was where with me because I know his love for food and how much he would have enjoyed pottering around looking at all the different brands.
I stopped at a small cafe for a soup of the day (cheapest food option) and read 'Memoirs of Cleopatra' by my favourite author Margaret George on my new kindle. The walk back home was not quite as pleasant as the walk there, not because of the surroundings but due to my blistered heels. Once back in Forest Row I walked by the Village Hall which is where I will be teaching a two hour workshop for the Sussex Youth Dance Company on Sunday. I am very excited to get to teach some different students and see what they think of my Australian style.
