Monday 26.4.2010 day 194 Getting to know our resort Today we went to the resort welcome meeting and met some of the other guest and found out all about the local area. We talked to one of the club people about losing our points in Canada and he said he would look into it and get back to us. We then drove to the honey farm on the way we saw a fox hunt. I was so shocked to see it. It was much worse to see then I had imagined there were close to 100 dogs and about 20 people on horseback that I saw there was all so about 50 people in cars with binoculars keeping an eye out they were all over the roads and the poor horses and dogs were being run ... read more

I am back! After successfully finding my way to the airport in Washington (taking a train, an hour long bus, and also being stopped by an American guy just for him to give me $5 as a thank you for visiting his country!)...I boarded my last flight of the 7 month trip. Seat 57H was my spot for the next 7 hours and I think I slept for most of the journey, but I can't really be sure. Either way, I saw about 30 seconds of a film and then I was out like a light. Arriving back into Heathrow was an extremely odd feeling. Exciting to see everyone again and be back at home, but knowing my travels (for this trip anyway) had come to an end was a slightly sad thought. Although post trip ... read more

Hello again, Myself and my good lady friend RoRo found our selfs with a spare 56 hours so we chucked the camping gear in the van, purchased some fule, food, drink and set of on a mini adventure. I was kinda planning to use the open 1 year tickets we had left over from the eden project. If you ever go there donate the money to charity btw, it gets you a year re-entery and if , like me, your self employed it comes of your taxable earnings as a charitable donation :D Unfortunatly the van gremlins of doom raised there ugly heads by way of a v noisy cv joint. (the bit that joins the gearbox to the wheel hub). Not wanting to get stranded far far away and unable to get back in time ... read more

Hello readers of my blog. Or should I simply just say hello family - I doubt anyone else will be to interested in what I have to say! This is my first post so I hope that I'm doing it right... Today is my last full day to sort my life out at home before I set foot on foreign soil. As you would expect with my generally rather disorganised life, I have a lot left to do. And it's a near certainty that something will be left behind. Let's just hope it's not my passport. First stop: Buenos Aires (BA). I think we've got accommodation booked for at least one night but Adam's been getting really into this 'couch surfer' website where you can stay at other people's houses for free. I just think it's ... read more

Well I am into the final countdown! It is all rather exciting, but at the same time very scary. Obviously I am going to miss my family and friends but what is scary is going out into the unknown - starting a new job is always the same, but here I have no idea where I will be going half the time or what I will be doing, and that’s what is scary - not being in control. Looking at it from a different view though - what an adventure it will be, waking up each day not knowing what to expect and just going with the flow. I am almost packed. That is the hardest part. Knowing what to take, and how much. My new boss has said that it is fine for me to ... read more

Wednesday 30.12.2009 Day 76 Portsmouth We walked to King Arthur castle it a fantastic place on the side of a cliff and Merlins Cave is there as well. We then drove to Stonehenge we could not believe how many people where there we saw more than 10 busses come and go while we were there. It cost £6.60 per person to go in and you cannot walk inside the stones there is a path around then that you have to stay on a long way from the stones and with hundreds of other people. The monument evolved between 3,000 BC and 1,600 BC and is aligned with the rising and setting of the sun at the solstices. It is a world Heritage site but the toilets and museum on the site are temporary buildings. It ... read more

With all injections complete, various vital equipment bought and much knowledge gained about Peru, I feel ready to go. Just as well, departure from England will take place in less than two weeks. I was asked what comforts I would be taking with me in addition to the packing list. I don't think I'll be needing comforts. All the volunteers, I'm sure, will be enough nice reminders of what England is like. We will all see the differences between cultures, find certain aspects of Peruvian culture strange perhaps, and be intrigued by something that a Peruvian (obviously) would take as a normal thing. So by experiencing this all as a group from the same culture, we can support one another fully. ... read more
