Flight boarded on time but didn't take off until 14:00 (45 mins late). However, a good tail wind meant we made up the time and we landed at 17:16. We made it through security and collected our bags OK. I had been carrying my kilt so I handed it back to George for his flight back to Newcastle. We said our good byes. We'd spent nearly 1 month together and we'd had an absolutlely brilliant time. My thanks to George for being such a great travelling companion and for putting up with me for so long! Many thanks to Phil W for picking me up from Heathrow. He was there ready and waiting (although still in his paint spattered work clothes! I had expected a peaked cap and a message reading "Mr Guy") We made good ... read more

Leaving in 2 hours. I've bound to have forgotten something! Meeting George & Ross at Terminal 4 @ 4 pm then it's a ten hour flight to Seoul. 2 hours to catch flight then another 11 hours to Auckland. We land at 8:00 am. Not sure what state we'll be in but we won't be able to rest too much as it's England v Scotland that night. I dont know what I'm more nervous about, the 4 weeks away or the first match. Those of you who know me won't be surprised! I'll be the one on TV blubbing when the anthems are being played and hiding my head when play gets under way.... read more

The list is not getting any smaller! Big question is how much stuff to take for 4 weeks. It was great not to have to get up at 5:30 this morning but I've still got loads to do (including the ironing apparently)... read more

Ok it's been over a year and it's time for us to head away again - this year it's sunny Barbados (or rainy Barbados at this time of year...). We haven't been since 2007 so it will interesting to see how it's changed. We are staying far up on the West Coast near Speightstown. We will check in today to see if we can get seats even close to one another (with a bit of leg room if possible) - one minute after it opens I'll be online! I've also got the afternoon off to pack and tidy the house so that it doesn't look a complete mess for the people looking after it! - Update 10 minutes after check-in open we have 5 seats in a row - result....... though they do back onto the ... read more

With a target of £6,000 to raise for our trek we decided to host a fundraising BBQ to bring in some extra cash. My cricket club agreed to allow us to setup on a game day so we could cook for players and supporters throughout the day. Unfortunately the English weather struck and in poured down all morning and at lunchtime the cricket game was called off. We decided to venture out to Wycombe anyway as the forecast for later in the afternoon was clear and we had numerous people coming so figured we would at least sell a few sausages. Luck was on our side and after arriving and setting up it didn't rain for the rest of the afternoon. Many of the players and club regulars stuck around for some of the Aussie BBQ ... read more

Ok so my travel organisation skills are coming together slowly.... tonight was very constructive well all in all a constructive week! I have now devised some sort of packing list which I will share shortly. So this week has included going to the dentist - not once but twice, final visit tomorrow so bearing in mind I am petrified of dentists this is quite an achievement for me and to go on my own as well. Yes at 28 I know this is something that should be fine but I think I am also more scared that if something went wrong while I was away it would probably be a hell of a lot worse in a foreign country and more expensive too! So final visit tomorrow and then I can breath again! :) I have ... read more

Well I felt the need to add another entry..... 6 and a half days left at work and after last week honestly phone/office jobs really can do one! For a short time at least! We had a major event happen on Friday with a concert so all I have done is slept/talked and done nothing but hear about it so it was kind of a milestone to get to the end of last week. I now don't have to do another Friday at work ever again in this country! Everyone said to me at work that I shouldn't be so final and wishing my time away but honestly I know that a new start officially starts in 3 weeks time as it's about doing what I love and not comprimising! That starts with travel! Whatever happens ... read more

Yes it's time for another blog on what seems to be the longest build up to a trip even though this time is actually less time between booking and actual departure date from my last trip in 2009. Now on 32 days which was only only just over a week ago from my last blog entry and the time seems to be really dragging but had the worst couple of days to the start of this week. Been in such a foul mood that I've actually come straight home after work as I fear that I might actually snap at someone. Thank god today has been a better day. Have to keep the attitude of not giving a s**t about work etc as it could really wind me up. All I can say is thank god ... read more
