Went shopping today in Milton Keynes, it was cool. Also went to this school (which apparently has a pretty rough reputation) with my uncle and had to join in his presentation about careers and jobs and interviews, which was scary but also cool. (Weird being back in a school too, some of those kids were so tiny). Then this evening walked to the local Tesco to attend a rally about the 'Living Wage' and actually came quite close to getting in trouble with the cops without realising. All in all it has been good :) Quite enjoying the city after spending the last wee while in the English countryside. Activities included drinks at the pub, picnics on hills, church fairs, tennis games, playing Risk, rain, watching Bambi with my little cousin (twice!) and eating lots of ... read more

So I am now on the 40 day mark with 19.5 days to go at work which makes it 2 full weeks after this one, a four day week then a 2 and a half day week!!! I think it might be finally becoming a bit more real as I try to figure out what I can sell whilst having a clear out. My dear mother has already ear marked my bedroom for when I go. The last time I went, the day after she'd already got it painted and to a spare room. She obviously got a bit of a shock when I turned up earlier than anticipated and also as a surprise turned up a few days early!! But after today I fear that both my mum and dad will be glad to have ... read more

Feel the need to write a blog entry today! With 47 days left and only 3 full weeks left at work, 2 4 day weeks and 1 3 day week it is starting to sink in! Well almost! Managed to close 2 credit cards today which was a good feeling and being able to refuse all offers of trying to open up another account and then cutting up the credit cards was very satisfying!! :) I went into work with the I don't give a sh*t attitude today, not allowing myself to get stressed by anything and it lasted all day even with the phones going, not being able to get my work done - it didn't phase me today. I've got to keep that attitude up or it will send me insane. Not been able ... read more

Well I am very near to the point where I started writing my blog for my last trip so this means that it's getting closer and also quite scary! Got jabbed with needles yesterday which was ok, only had to have Typhoid and a Hep B booster so that was good. She was trying to get me to have Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies but decided against those plus why are they so bleedin' expensive. I know your life is worth more than money but still seriously - us backpackers do things on a budget, it's a wonder we go out with any money! Going to have another appointment with the nurse and doctor before I go to make sure I have everything covered! Did feel like a penguin when the jabs finally kicked in, decided to ... read more

Well as of 5 minutes ago I hit the 60 days mark so that's like 2 months and I am at 35 actual working days at work so that's just a bit exciting. I've never been so excited to leave a place - I know it's giving me money to do what I want so I really should stop moaning! I guess I have just got to the stage of NEEDING to go for my own sanity. Before my last trip I was so over excited about going and getting everything organised (I had even longer to wait last time!) and I didn't actually find out about this site until a couple of months before I left so I didn't seem to write too much about the time before I actually went on my travels. So ... read more

Well at 10 o'clock tonight it will be the 70 day mark so the end is near! Not quite near enough though! :p I've finally got myself a part-time job working at a local bar/restaurant down the road. And what could be more ideal than it being a Thai restaurant - should get me right in the mood for South East Asia. So I am now currently working 4-5 days out of 7 so that gives me no time to go out and spend money as work all weekend and also 2-3 nights in the week! Clock myself up nearly 50+ hours a month so that's not all bad! And every penny goes towards the savings! It has to be said that it actually gives me a break from what I deal with from my full ... read more

Ok I know I rambled on in my last blog entry for this one particular journey but just felt the need to write another one and it's only been about a week! The sunshine has decided to make an appearance here in the UK and yes I know for us here that is very rare! We are indeed known for April showers but we have seen no sign of any rain. So this has had an affect at work and brought every single person out of the woodwork so it's been chaos at work which is obviously good for them! I have gone in deliberately early in order to get an hours worth of sunbathing in. Got my own little sun trap, people who walk past when they see me sunbathing leave me well alone! It's ... read more

Ok seriously, the need to go is getting greater and greater by the day and I actually didn't think that was possible. We have a few brief days of sunshine which has also made me think that this time in just over 3 months I will be in approximately 30 degree heat. It was so nice getting some sun on my pasty white skin! I always find it amazing how much happier everybody is when the sun comes out! Why is it when you are planning to go away you end up zoning out from people who just seem so stuck in their little bubble. I mean it's each to their own and I guess I am just very different but see a life outside of the UK and know that there is so much more ... read more

Hello everyone! So this time next week we will be arriving at the airport to start our trip and theres still lots to do and lots of people to see! My girlfriend and I have been lucky in that we have both managed to secure jobs for when we return to the UK! Heather will be working for Waitrose on the graduate scheme and I have today accepted a job on the BT graduate scheme, this will mean we can fully relax while away and not have to worry about totally draining our bank accounts (which I now fully intend to do!). First stop is Bangkok via Dubai (only a 1hr transit) where we have booked into a hotel called Bhimann Inn, fairly close to Khao San Road with air con and a small swimming pool, ... read more

Well I am now down to 114 days and it feels like all the pieces of the jigsaw are coming together and the excitement is growing day by day. Last night after alot of waiting, I got an email through from a tour operator in Laos where I can go and help with some tribe horses on an elephant village so I am really excited about that as I get to go and help with some young horses. Giving up the horses when I go away will be one of the hardest things to do so to be able to carry on the passion when I go away in another country is an added bonus and I think this will be a challenge. After discussing my travel plans with a friend on facebook I have managed ... read more
