Hugh and Den - those lovely guys in High Wycombe? No, Hughenden - just a mile or two down the road! Hughenden was the Buckinghamshire home from 1848 to 1881 of a former Prime Minister of Britain named Benjamin Disraeli. Disraeli - 'Dizzy' to his friends - was a Conservative politician. He served twice as Prime Minister - from February to December 1868 and again from February 1874 to April 1880. His achievements were many and various - click on his name in the previous paragraph to see just how many and various they were. Suffice to say, he has a well-deserved place in the history of Great Britain. A middle-class man of Jewish birth, Disraeli rose to become one of the most respected politicians of his era. On becoming ... read more

Well, tonight is my last night in the UK before I head to Belgium for a few days. This trip was a spur of the moment thing as I got such an amazing deal on travel! However, it does have its downside. The downside is that I will be stuck on a coach for some time! I have my bags of sweets, a packed lunch, a resealable can of energy drink and lastly my iPad, preloaded with Zombieland, World War Z and the last half if season 4 of Dexter. Oh, not forgetting my MP3 player!I'm sure that will be plenty to keep me going! And the price of this I hear you ask? It was a measly £2.50 return! (50p of that is a booking fee) Kudos to hotukdeals.com for bringing this to my attention ... read more

It's that time of year - the bags are coming down from the loft - the sun tan cream is being taken out of the drawer - I'm getting a hair cut - well had a hair cut. It's the summer one - 3 on the side with a 4 on top - just in case anyone is interested. We leave Thursday for Madrid and spend a couple of days there before picking up a car and heading to Galicia and an organic dairy farm. Eleanor is getting her herding skills warmed up! Then after a week we move closer to Santiago de Compostella - which is supposed to be where St. James is buried and is the end of the "Way of St.James" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Way_of_St._James But before we get in the car and leave Madrid ... read more

Got up early and had breakfast while it was raining. Our route out of Brussels also looked doubtful as the local main roads were being closed for a half marathon around Brussels. Having packed the car between rain showers and said our goodbyes to Tom, Marta, Hannah and Dinah we decided to make an early start for the Eurotunnel. As we set out, the road we wanted was closed in parts but we were able to make progress in slip roads alongside the main road we needed. In some parts we were unable to access the tunnels through Brussels city centre but managed to make progress on the surface tracking the route of the tunnels. Eventually, we left the half marathon route behind and made good progress out of Brussels onto the A10 motorway. Considering it ... read more

Plans Neal recently purchased a Porsche 911 and wanted to take it for a good trip as up to now he has only really used it for the occasional commute to work and visits to friends and family. So the plan is to take it for a spin on a week-long tour around France. The car is a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera (a 3.6l, rear-wheel drive, manual 996 for those who care about these sorts of things) and is a real racer. We have had to promise not to try to see what its top speed is on this trip. It has only just left the garage where it was being repaired on Saturday but we hope this means it is in good condition now and we get us around the route. Getting ready As we ... read more

Well we're off again! I've decided to 'blog' my way through Thailand this time. We fly at 21:00 tonight so I've got a little time to start my musings. We will land at 4:00 pm in Bangkok on Thursday and then spend 2 nights in the capital. Friday will be spent in the jungle before we fly south on Saturday to Krabi then an hours transport by boat to the resort of Pimalai. Hopefully there'll be some diving to be had and a decent Thai curry or two!... read more

Had the pleasure of a taxi to the airport courtesy of Dad and John as they are flying out to Saudi Arabia this morning from Terminal 5. After a quick goodbye and drop off at T5 we head over to T3 and before I know it I’m waiting to check in. Made a few phone calls to the family and mooched around departures, mainly to source some half decent looking fruit for my lunch but with limited success. Most of you know that one thing I try to avoid at ALL costs is sitting still. If that means running between places to ensure I get there on time because I’m scheduled so tight, so be it – it beats wasting time doing nothing! So a 12 hour flight was going to be a challenge, but I ... read more
