A relatively easy journey to our hotel near Heathrow courtesy of Josie. Puntuated by a very good lunch at the Plough Inn, Bolnhurst near Bedford (found via tripadvisor). Would thoroughly recommend it and worth the slight detour from the sat nav instructions to Heathrow from Newark. Must end now as wi-fi is £5 per hour at this hotel.... read more

I offended someone. I think. The gentleman in question has never actually said he was offended, he forwarded my blog and said “Look what Lisa Kelly wrote about us.” After which two men wrote some rather nasty comments about me. However if they had read the blog properly they would have realised it was NOT about them at all but a general comment about expats globally. As you all know my job is important to me, I love what I do so I decided to delete the “offending” blog and sent an apology to all the men that received the blog. Two men came back and told me not to worry as they enjoyed what I had written as it was accurate. This incident led to me temporarily closing my entire blog and then making it ... read more

Today it was the day. This was my first trip, ever. It was a long day, started at 5 am (Dutch time) when my alarm waked me up. We had to leave at 6 am. However, I was so excited, that I didn't sleep that well. Together, with a friend, Hans we booked a trip by Effeweg (Dutch organization) to the South (East) of England, called "Highlights of South-England". This was an 8 day trip were we should visit London, Oxford, Winchester and Stonehenge, and many more! Also, breakfast and diner was included. After my parents picked up Hans, we went to Nijmegen, where the bus should pick us up. Here, there was a check-in point, where a bus of Effeweg should came. Here, we could check in, and the bus brought us to the central ... read more

Day 2 to Day 15 The ‘actual traveling’ begins tomorrow………………… Tomorrow we are heading to France and beyond. We are booked on a P&O Ferry at 2:00pm from Dover to Calais. We arrived in London 2 weeks ago and it was interesting to see the boys experience ‘jet-lag’ for the first time. Andrew and Jo sent Leo, their driver, to collect us from Heathrow. This was the first time one of those signs with names on it was actually for us!!! It’s about 60 minutes to Oxford and apart from New Zealand; this is the first time the boys had been outside Australia. This is visit number 6 for both Melissa and I to the UK and only our second together. Last time we were here together, we got engaged. The boys, like in New Zealand, ... read more

The time has finally come!! THE PHILLIPS SISTERS HIT SOUTH-EAST ASIA!!! In an attempt to comemorate this amazing moment in our lives as well as informing all our friends and fam of what we're doing I have decided to start up my very first travel blog. Being a blogger virgin please be patient with my waffle(s) and general IT incompetence. Alors, there are only two days to go until final departure and I find myself at good old Papi Phillips' house! A lot of tea drinking, cheese on toast eating, pipe smoking and national anthem singing (OK maybe not the last two but you get the idea!) is being done so as to fill up on all things quintessentially British before I get bombarded by strange and wonderful Chinese traditions! Scorpions and manky eels AHOY!!!... read more

Geo: 51.48, -0.605995Since we wanted to save the major London landmarks until Andrew arrived on Sunday, we decided to take a train to Windsor Castle (the real one this time). We just missed the changing of the guard there (at 11), but did get ourselves on a 1 pm tour of the kitchen. We went through the State Apartments, which were partially being prepped for Garter Day that next Monday (which meant we couldn't see St. George's Chapel). It was kinda cool, though , to see the various table settings being readied for the fancy-schmancy dinner on Monday. The kitchen tour was really interesting, and well worth the additional £5. We got to go down into parts of the castle that weren't really known in modern times, until the fire in 1992. The actual kitchen itself ... read more

May 5, 2012 – Maidenhead Wow, our last day! Tonight we are flying out for home, and to be honest both of us are now ready to go home. It's been a lovely holiday, a wonderful break – but we are both missing family, friends and our FurBabies. We are also missing our own bed – it's been many weeks since we slept in a decent bed LOL What have we been up to, these last few days? Well, as I mentioned in my last blog commentary, we went to see the White Horse of Uffington, which is in the middle of absolutely nowhere but is well worth the effort of getting there. The views from the White Horse are astonishing – truly you feel like you're on top of England. After seeing the White Horse, ... read more

Hi all the flight home was good, the airport in Lagos was unusually quiet - rumour has it that this is because it was early morning! when I sat in the seat on the plane a woman asked me if I would mind changing places with her daughter so they could sit together - I looked and her daughter was about 5 years old so I couldnt deny it even if the seat I was moving to was rubbish, when I moved there I sat next to a rather large woman who said to me in a very strong Nigerian Accent "I would rather you didnt sit there we wont have enough space" she was right... so I chatted to one of the stwardesses and told her the situation and I was offered either an upgrade ... read more

This April I found myself flying back to the UK for my fifth visit in four years, I have learnt to find an evening flight which helps sleeping routines and finding the shortest stop overs helps aswell, there is no getting away though that the flight is still on average 24 hours! So armed with flight socks, asprin, ear plugs, eye mask and lavender oil I managed to sleep for a far part of the trip and arrived at Heathrow the same day I left Brisbane! It was wonderful to see Jon, Lou and Issy waiting at the arrivals gate there is always a thrill and excitement when walking through, I love looking at everyones faces as they wait for their loved ones it is so emotional! It was lovely to be able to spend a ... read more
